A Good Year #AdamAndJoe

There's no pretending that the goodness of Adam's year has had a higher profile than Joe's but they're both achieving great heights doing the things they love.

This time last year, BBC Radio2 celebrated the last day with a 'Best of 6Music' episode and the resulting podcast remains available for download. Good times.

January

While Joe's film featured in the nominations for the London Critics Circle Film Awards, Adam drilled a big tunnel through the centre of the earth to bring BUG to the Sydney Comedy Festival.

February

Adam took a more conventional route home, enabling him to slip into LA to present a BUG and also his wonderful Radiohead Restrospective BUG.

In the middle of the month he returned to the Leicester Comedy Festival.

Joe and his Attack the Block had nominations in the Evening Standard Awards, the Black Film Awards, The Orange BAFTA Film Awards, Guild of Music Supervisors Awards and the NAACP Image Awards. He also defended a South London tower block against....the press.

On 21st February Joe helped launch LOVE Film's new streaming rental service by doing a live commentary with Nick and Alex and a brief appearance from Edgar Wright.

The month was rounded off with Adam hosting the Music and Sound Awards.

March

March began with BBC Radio2 doing a couple more 'Best Of Adam and Joe' shows to help celebrate the 6Music 10th Birthday!  Adam and Joe popped in to Western House to record an interview for inclusion in Steve Lamacq's special birthday broadcast and they also recorded a health & safety announcement played to the live audience before the Maida Vale sessions.

On 14th March, the BFI invited Joe to present his Screen Epiphany to members. He chose Over the Edge.

Then he flitted off to the exciting film continent, stopping off to do a little interview with Strombo.

Meanwhile, Adam presented the British Arrows to those odd, advertising types and he did a BUG on his home turf of Norwich. He also presented at the BAFTA Games Awards.

At the end of the month, Joe pitched up in Japan with Nick Frost to attend the Okinawa Film Festival and present Attack the Block at it's Tokyo premiere.

April

After several patient months putting it all together, Adam finally began recording his tv version of BUG for Sky Atlantic, the pilot being on Good Friday which I was fortunate enough to attend without disgracing myself.

Adam made a wonderful jingle jongle for the Thinkbox ad and it's been on air again in December.

Adam's film of himself, Joe & Louis Theroux mentile-ing made it onto The One Show.

May

Adam and Joe's 6Music show won a Silver Sony Radio Academy Award again this year!

Attack the Block was among the nominations for the Sky South Bank Arts Awards  and Nebula Awards this month.

Adam continued to present his regular bi-monthly BUG show at the BFI while recording the tv version and also squeezed in a couple of shows in the Brighton Comedy Festival.

Joe rounded off May by giving a masterclass in Rome.

June

Adam did a couple of baby BUG shows mixed into his usual schedule in London and Norwich this month.

Attack the Block enjoyed it's first terrestrial screening on Channel4 but the big Joe Cornish news of the month is that none other than Kennedy Marshall have entrusted him with writing and directing the um....unfilmable Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson.

July

BBC Radio4Extra dusted off the young(er) Adam and Joe radio play 'Famous Guy' for another outing this month.

Adam finally saw his BUG TV show air on SKY. I say 'finally' but it was originally scheduled for September and Sky loved it so much they brought it forward. Adam featured in a couple of newspaper mags. It's actually repeating on Sky Atlantic right now!

He also took his Best Of show to Latitude and The Cambridge Comedy Festival.

Attack the Block popped up at the Saturn Awards. You can check all the Attack the Block gongs here.

August

In something none of us could have really predicted, Adam was a guest on Sunday Brunch but they didn't seem too interested in his plat du jour - Brilliantly Boiled Broccoli. He also called into Shaun W Keaveny's and Matt Edmonson's shows.

Adam took BUG to the Green Man Festival. I seem to remember that used to be a favourite haunt of Master Cornballs.

We also had the wonderful news that Joe has become attached to another project. He will direct Royden Lepp's "Rust"!

September

Adam and Joe featured as an answer in the new Comedy World Cup show.

Adam joined Jonathan Ross's team on The Big Fat Quiz of the 80's and gave his latest Bowie workings their first airing at a BUG Special in King's Place. He finished the month with BUGs in Birmingham and Manchester.

There's a recap of BUG tv here.

October

Adam brought his Radiohead Restrospective BUG to Norwich and also took a special Fat Boy Slim show to the London Film Festival in addition to his regular BUG shows.

November

Adam presented the Music Video Awards again this year and also joined Richard Herring on stage at the Leicester Square Theatre for one of his wonderful podcast interviews.

Film4 aired Attack the Block to start their British Connections series and preceded it with interviews and a short introduction from Joe. ATB was also offered as an iTunes download for a mere 30p!

In the middle of the month, Adam began a new radio partnership with Edith Bowman. This got off to a tentative start but finished last Saturday with listeners throwing tantrums at the thought of it all ending so soon. They both visited Lauren to launch the show. Check the BBC 6Music website for wonderful links to clips, pix and downloads.

Adam also took his Radiohead Restrospective BUG to Brighton.

Joe chatted to some young students at the BFI this month too.

December

On 3rd December, the BFI invited Adam to present his Screen Epiphany to members. He chose The Man Who Fell To Earth and broke the Epiphany mold by introducing it in an hilarious BUG style. Eventually, the BFI will put a little clip of the intro here.

On Christmas Eve Film4 aired Attack the Block plus the interviews again.

Adam featured impressively on Celebrity Mastermind with his specialist subject being David Bowie.

2013

There are already BUGs scheduled at the BFI, Leicester and Norwich.

Joe will be buying some new leads for his propelling pencil.

AOB

BUG launched an iPhone app to commemorate it's 5th Birthday.

There's a proper Adam and Joe fansite here and the forum has a thread with links to download many of their radio shows including Adam's new ones with Edith.

I attempt to keep a sort of calendar here but I'll be honest, it's not easy!

I may not do much decent blogging these days but I do put the odd sound byte here.

Have a ruddy good 2013 if you possibly can

The value of an oz these days

Adam and Joe's 6Music show won a Silver Sony Radio Academy Award again this year! The gold went to the two little old ladies; so effectively our idiotholes were the real winners (in the award ceremony in my head, that is). Joe's already researched the relative prices of an ounce of gold versus and ounce of silver but they've appreciated considerably since then. Catch up with the evening's wiffle waffle here.

The beautiful being that is Tom Robinson also won gold for his 6Music show.

However, it must be said, the most tear jerking moment of the evening was when 6Music won UK Station of the YEAR!
I saved this station, you know. I'm in a club of a few thousand people who would not accept the closure theory. I'm guessing, since you're reading this, that you are too! Aren't we wonderful?

Hello Giggles were clearly on the judging panel.

6Music also won a Music Week Award last month (as did Steve Lamacq).

BUG TV is gaining more momentum as the main audience-based filming seems to be in the can and all that remains is for the bespoke, buckles videos, interviews and waffle to be assembled into eight delicious capsules and blasted into space before they can beam down from the naughty man's satellite in the Autumn.

It's good to know that Uncle Dave was on hand at the recordings, should any corrective maintenance be necessary.

Of course, The Guardian were on this back in March but it's only recently that I noticed this lovely comment on their piece. What an adorable man Count Bucklules is.

Various people have been tweeting about their involvement. For instance, we know that the awesome friends of BUG, Shynola are doing the title sequence and the super-talented David Wilson will be featured in one episode. You can just about read the text of that article from The Sunday Times.

Ian Burrell, Time Lord and Media Editor at The Independent filled a page on Monday, prior to the Sony Radio Academy Awards presentations. "Because the pair are such old friends they have an instinctive humour which delights critics." not to mention the thousands of 6Music listeners baying for their return.

A lot of this piece is about the success of BUG but please note that Joe's contribution came via an email from America. Imagine! This would no doubt have been easy to spot due to the +1 (or would it be +44?) in front of his email address and the fragmented font in which it arrived, not to mention the ungodly hour he chose to send it, plus that annoying delay. I'm sorry but WTAF?

It was the fifth birthday of BUG in it's present form and they made a special playlist Facebooky thing to mark the occasion.

Adam tweeted this at the end of April, about Adam and Joe's return to radio.

They're both so busy but somehow, Adam managed to make a jingle-jongle for this tv ad.

Adam's gigs last night in Brighton went down really well, as ever.

BUG 31 at the BFI (June 14th and 29th) is almost sold out again but, and I can never stress this more strongly, please try nearer the time and on the day.

Remember all the lovely nibbles of artwork used on 6Music's Adam and Joe home page? The talented lady who made them has updated the cover for her Idiothole's Guide. It's a thing of beauty.

The BFI website now has the video of Joe's introduction to Over The Edge for your enjoyment and by some quirk of miracles, @VivaVHS tweeted this picture of the original VHS cover Joe refers to. Furthermore, @VivaVHS also made this cover for Attack the Block!

Joe moved among the muggles for a very special double-bill Picturehouses Podbirthday screening but he was so hot, he set of some alarm or another.

Once again, Joe's name popped up in a daytime telly quiz show. It pretty much reprised the previous incidence.

It gets worse. YouTube have used a picture of Joe Wright instead of Cornish in their auto-list thing. This is what happens when you're out of the public eye. I'm just saying.

There's a lot of chit-chat about Ant-man. Edgar's been talking. He's got the last Cornetto film to make and he wants to make Ant-man. Mr Marvel has said things will get moving during the summer. By moving, he may just mean it'll change status from "I know nothing" to "Something might come of this". Enough people are wetting their boxers over this. I feel I shall not need to deploy the Tena-Lady quite yet.

Any Other Business:

Nick Frost will be at Kapow tomorrow. It may be too late for tickets. It may not be. I went along last year. It was very spoilery full of lovely previews and trailers. It's in a nice part of town. If that's not enough Frost for anyone, you can catch him chatting to Richard Herring next month. Please book some seats for heckins' sake.

Beautiful Paige Meade from Attack the Block has landed a role in the next series of Waterloo Road! This young lady seems to have boundless talent and energy.

Last time I was driving through Brixton, I saw this pizza & chicken place. Not only is it named after a character in Attack the Block, it is surrounded by the kind of bins in which said character hid for most of the film.

This blogger has put together a load of Attack the Block references.

Italy and Japan are still gearing up for their releases of Joe's film.

If you're quick, you might still be able to get a ticket to one of these screenings at the Film4 Summer Screen held annually in the courtyard of Somerset House. Not one dud among them.

Empire have complied an amusing Avengers flowchart thing and the Incredible Suit has made a Spoterizing Playlist for exactly the same film.

I'd also like to give a link to Adam Batty's eBook thingumy which film lovers might enjoy.

I'm going to end this with a couple of links that you don't really need.

I've been known to use a blog on Posterous for posting sound nuggets. It was 'acquired' by Twitter in March and without so much as a by-your-leave, the sound media I've lovingly kept there since 2009 has not been showing up on some versions of some browsers. I have had to go over ALL 570 odd posts to re-place the media (and I don't mean replace/re-up it, I mean take it out and put it in again). I believe I have finally finished this unwelcome chore but if you find any broken bits, let me have a link and tell me your browser and version. Ta muchly. In case you're wondering, if it weren't for the several hundred hits each nugget has had, I wouldn't have bothered.

Finally, incredible though this may seem, I have a life beyond bothering Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish. Granted that it's not much beyond in so far as it consist of an engorgement of films, a earhole of music, a pop-up of theatre and a tickle of comedy. I've joined that there Letterboxd thing. I don't know if I'll survive the pressure. I'm keeping them short and you might find the tags more revealing than the actual notes in the event that you even care what I thought.

Welcome To My Catch All,
Attack the Block
Reference Portal

I think this is something along the lines of what a proper fan-site might put together but in my case it will be a lumbering list of links that I shall attempt to update as and when the mood takes my flighty, little brain.

The shiny official website is here and it will be updated with stuff in a manner spookily similar to the regularity I deploy on this blog.

This film has been lovingly squeezed into it's cans (or BARCO spitspot) with the help of Optimum Releasing, Film4, Big Talk and the UK Film Council. All these links have a hotch-potch of things that might interest you if you poke around a bit.

What one site lacks in glossy pictures and pithy quotes, it makes up for in wordy bits of information.

So what did those Amerrricans think of the film? They saw it before any of us homeys, after all. The film was so well received at SXSW that it won the Best Midnight Feature nod so here are some links to the ejaculations of over-excited geekboys. Video interviews are here.

The next big public schmoozefest was at the Kapow Comic Con and I've been patiently thrumming my fingers in anticipation that someone might host some of the stuff that was recorded. They're probably waiting until nearer the release date.

Attack The Block World Premiere news

Attack the Block will hold it's World Premiere at SXSW in March, 2011

I'm almost a day tardy with this if you don't follow my Twitter feed but hey, I'm good deal closer to the area than usual.

South By Southwest is a very cool festival that started so small in the music capital of Texas and grew into one of the most coveted markets at which to be presented and to attend. Duncan Jones' Source Code is opening the festival with it's own world premiere. It'd be nice to think the Big Talk team will be in town to rock along to that too.

I'm not entirely sure of the process involved with achieving this but I'm going to go with the notion that what the organisers have seen of Attack The Block must have impressed them considerably to schedule it like this as one of their Midnighters. Whilst I momentarily comfort my broken soul that I can't afford be there, I'm heartened by the thought that it will get some amazing exposure and buzz that could lead to a speedier worldwide success than might have originally been planned. At the moment, that thrill is outweighing any gloomy idea that it will make Joe even less accessible and available for secret radio station noodling.

It's also doing the Markets at Berlinale this week.

Spare a little thought for me and my endeavours to view this film with as little pre-cog as possible. I anticipate an overload of information from this and you'll have to forgive me if I don't pass all of it on and comment about it. I'd also appreciate it if people didn't direct spoilers at me. I know I can't hope to sustain this for the entire two months between SXSW and the UK release date but I'm going to try my best. That said, there's a sweet SXSW blog here.

Obviously, I know this much:
Attack The Block (UK) HDCAM1080i 87 minutes
Director: Joe Cornish
Producer: Nira Park, James Wilson
Cast: Jodie Whittaker, John Boyega, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter, Adam Leese and Nick Frost
Screenwriter: Joe Cornish
Cinematographer: Thomas Townend
Editor: Jonathan Amos
Music: Basement Jaxx and Steve Price
A funny, frightening action adventure movie that pits a teen gang against an invasion of alien monsters. It turns a tower block into a sci-fi playground. It’s inner city versus outer space.
(World Premiere)

Of course, I don't mind reading stuff like this piece from The Guardian about street casting.
Cornish is a big fan of street casting. "You're casting unknowns because you want an authenticity that a professional actor may in fact find it harder to give; you want their realness," he says. "They told us as much about the script as we could tell them. They advised us on costume, on language; we used them as a kind of resource to make sure the film was credible to people of their age."

Whilst on the subject of cast, I hope you're catching the beautiful Jodie Whittaker in Marchlands on ITV at the moment.

John Boyega is in a Red Button offshoot of Being Human playing a bully called Danny Curtis.

Franz Drameh was caught on video at the London premiere of Paul, namechecking Attack The Block and Leeon Jones was there too.

This lady got a "Just Coming" from Joe! I guess he was more prepared for it in a red carpet situation. Attack the Block is getting name checks from Nick as he tours with Paul.

One last bit of trivia: The editor of Little White Lies posed as a hoodie for the next issue.

This post was mainly intended as a joyous celebration of Joe's success but while I'm here, there are a couple of other things to mention.

Adam always seems to maximise his time when he's in the big city and on Wednesday he recorded an episode from the second series of Matt Lucas' "And The Winner Is". There's a picture of him with Matt and Rory Bremmer here but they could be anyone!

Adam did an amazing set at the Tabernacle last night for Feature Spot. His Photoshop went a bit wonkaloid and that led to the most hilarious, interactive madness which he handled beautifully, adding so much to the evening. John of BBC 6Music Blog designing fame and Basil rushed to his rescue but with his usual, adorable humility, he seemed to feel this had somehow lessened the value of the evening. He couldn't be more wrong. It made it very special. At one point he offered to refund £5 to everyone (which one unhelpful audience member suggested should be more like £7 - unfair because Jonny Sweet and The Persuassionists' own Nick Mohammed were very good value) but settled with the offer of a gratis show for anyone who left their email address on his table. Without exception, I am sure everyone thought it was an exceptionally brilliant night but the offer of a freebie and another chance to see Buckles was too much to pass up so lots of people left scraps of paper on his table.

The hilight of the evening was Adam's perfectly rendered, live musical précis of Black Swan for anyone who can't spare the time to go and see it. I do hope more people get the chance to see him do this. I'm sure he'll try to squeeze into the Leicester BUG. He also did the "wot is buk" reading that I missed from BUG23 so my life was complete.

Several minutes past curfew the crowd also persuaded him to do a live version of his RATATOUILLE (THE RAT CONTROL THE COOK.

Do you remember Adam and Joe's interview with GETS! man, Dandy Sakano in Go Tokyo? Of course you do. For some reason that only the Consultants of Comedy can reveal, he is relaunching his career in Dundee because it erm, sounds like his name.

This post wouldn't be complete without a bit of off-piste nonsense so here's a bit about Edgar Wright buying the "S" from the Somerfield in Wells. He also accepted a banana for directing a film.

A full version of External World by David OReilly (of Meebox credits fame) is on the nets now.

'Our' very own Ben Mercer is performing in Hoxton next month.

Friend of the show, AmberGambler made a new mix last week too.

This bit of Wiki silliness made me laugh at a particularly low moment last week.

A Bird in the Hand is Worth a Delay in The Block

One of these days, I will be committed enough to update this blog on either a regular basis or at least on a day when I have some headline news to kick it off with. Sadly, today is not one of those days and this post is simply an effort to tidy up my Saved Links drawer, as it were.

In a desert of Adam and Joe freshness, the two bits of information that could realistically be classed as news since my last post are that as far as I can tell, Adam has agreed to be in the line-up for the Sod Cancer charity gig in the Bloomsbury Theatre at the end of April and the release date for Attack the Block seems to have moved on to Friday, 13th May 2011. I dunno if anyone at Frostitution wants to note that. Optimum and Big Talk are still not updating.

Don't forget that Issue 34 of Little While Lies will contain Attack the Block features and with any luck, Jon Hamblin's interview with Joe should turn up in the April issue of SFX Magazine. Both these publications should hit the shelves within a few days of each other. If I wasn't such a self-deprecating dullard, I'd try to do an email interview with the blighter myself.

While I'm in the area, ATB's Jodie Whittaker has been talking about Marchlands, which started on ITV last night. ATB's beautiful producer won an ENVY award last month.

This lovely man is writing a song a week to put on YouTube. Follow and encourage him here. Naturally, he needed a visual element and he approached Adam with a request to submit a picture of a bird. With all due respect and I may be ridiculously biased but I think Adam's was the most enjoyable response he got.

I presume everyone caught up with Adam's romantic trip to the Maldives. This picture was in the hard copy but not on-line.One Guardian reader thinks he should have his own column.

As I write, there are still tickets for next week's Tabernacle gig and a couple of seats available for Adam's Röyksopp BUG Special but I think you'll have to phone. More details about the event here and here.

Shots also published an interview with him which for the moment, I have put here. The most exciting news contained therein must surely be about the proposed BUG Specials in Edinburgh and Manchester.

BUG 23 has been and gone but there's a nice little summary here. A few miles down the road, David Byrne was on stage after a glorious screening of his film. It saddened me a little to think that Adam couldn't be there. I suspect there was the biggest gathering of Twitsquadroners thus far for the BUG Director's Cut the following week.

Since my last post, a couple of 6Music items have been bubbling around. First of all, and I would imagine as no surprise, it seems the website will will no longer exist as quite the treasure trove it more recently proved to be. Perhaps Adam has more influence over Thommo than he might imagine as it may transpire that his wish to abolish webcams has been noted and acted upon.

Furthermore, the spring schedule has been discussed but the biggest news there is the acquisition of Mr Radcliffe who will join his chum, Mr Maconie as they transfer their Radio 2 show over to our own, exclusive and secret station. Nemone's maternal condition makes way for the pairing as she transfers to the weekend breakfast show and I guess Lauren will liberate the wonderful Huey Morgan from his current six day week schedule during the next couple of months if her telly commitments don't exhaust her.

A little bit of international squadronage here. The lovely Jennifer drove through some beautiful scenery with Adam and Joe for company.

Caught in the nets

The salty talents of Oblong Pictures have been at work again. If you prefer to watch this in VimeoVision, you may.

Earlier in the month, a Picturehouses typo inspired him to make this idiotic loveliness.

Whilst in CageCore you might need this and a squint at this.

Feed your nerd nerves with this display of the Scott Pilgrim T-shirts.

While I'm about it, this Lynchgasm is priceless. At around 5:50 Edgar dessicated into something that can only put me in mind of Joe's interview with Sir Rodge. It is the sweetest thing.

Another enjoyable Big Talk production won a Comedy Award last month too.

Adam's friend and MeeBox contributor, David OReilly has won an award with his External World film!

6 Music are responsible for endless joy in my life. Take a listen to Beardyman's visit with Huey this week. I don't think I would have fully appreciated Metronomy without 6Music and they have offered the first single from their upcoming album for total frees here. You can view their video here and then it may tickle you to watch a couple of reversed versions here and here.

If you don't feel I've given enough hilarious entertaining visual links there are three more I'm going to share. I'll start with a technically torturing phone short from The Incredible Suit.

This is surely the best Alan Partridge episode yet.

There's been the odd grumble around the net that this film rips off what Adam does. I guess it's possible that the author is aware of Adam's work and style but this is entertaining stuff and it was put together with a degree of care that few of us would be prepared to apply. Give the guy a break.

Sometimes I notice tweets along the lines of 'Adam and Joe did this ages ago but better'. They may well have done but audiences are constantly refreshing and renewing. Love them as I do, in real terms Adam and Joe have been tucked away in a relatively bijou niche for most of their professional lives thus far. I feel it's completely legitimate for others to be inspired enough by them to unconsciously or otherwise emulate them. If they happen to be of the kind of profile that enjoys a wider audience, that can only be good for everyone.

Finally and apropos of nothing at all......practical sillies.

Pithy blogpost titles are for people with a lisp

Get your fiddling fingers out and pay attention to this call-to-arms from Little White Lies. Their next issue will feature Attack the Block and if you've been silly enough to pass this publication by at your newsstand thus far, I can tell you it'll be a collectors item......just like every other issue. You can have your own custom-built rocket included if you get your sticky fingers organised now!

It's been a testing week for those of us with Attack The Block search alerts. One tiny, teeny little tweet sent the machine into the far reaches of the blogalaxie and it returned to our atmosphere with all kinds of space junk. I won't link anything. There are lengthy paragraphs out there based entirely upon these few words:

It would seem that Basement Jaxx and Stevie Price are in charge of the score which should be a wickles solution.

On 30th December, the beautiful Ritzy Cinema hosted a screening of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, introduced by Edgar Wright and he came back for a Q & A afterwards. There are some pictures here with thanks to James Kent. One can only imagine he spent the interim period watching telly and snacking on Caramac round at Joe's house because the silly, long fella snuck in to get a taste of what it might be like when he has to do the same.

Edgar also hosted a pre-recorded 6Music show on New Year's Day. For some of it, he was joined in the studio by his blood and ice-cream chums, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. Even three of them couldn't fill the links on their own so they called the professionals. The professionals were too hung-over to help so they had to get Joe on the phone. You can hear the resulting bed-bound waffle here. I can't be arsed to look but if you were interested, I'm sure you'd find some kind of fan portal that has preserved the entire show for your enjoyment. It was ruddy good.
Lewis King made a Spotify list for many of the tracks played.

Last night, Edgar implied that he might get writing on the final part of his trilogy but a couple of days earlier, Ant-man was on his mind.

The Incredible Suit is looking forward to Joe's film. I couldn't work out a pattern for the order he put these films in so I can only suppose it's relative to the amount of excitement generated in his suit. Otherwise they're in dry cleaning ticket sequence which would amount to the same thing, probably.

If you're near any of these venues and can catch this short you'll be treated to a little bit of Adam's voice. There are no less than five showtimes at Sundance. If Adam gets going with his Twitter account again, perhaps we can ask him a bit more about it. It was directed by the awesome Meebox credit maker, David OReilly.

Adam Buxton, reptile keeper, has named a meerkat after his brother, which is nice. Mate, if you're the same Adam Buxton with that Twitter account, can you get in touch with @AdamsBigMixtape?

There's an additional BUG Röyksopp Special on Feb 11th though it's all but sold out. There will be more tickets released nearer the time and it should be a wickles night with Röyksopp DJing in the Benugo Bar afterwards. Don't forget to check for gig info here.

This is from 2008 but I just noticed Adam signed the Knock2Bag guest book back then.

A couple of Adam related items are going fairly cheaply on Amazon at the moment here and here.

It would seem Adam may have found somewhere warm to take the family over the festive break. This was posted in Adam's YouTube comments which he has to sanction so I presume he's happy putting this info out there.
We can only imagine how many diseases he contracted and issues he dealt with during the flight and his stay. In the old days, he would have spread that kind of information out over six or seven 6Music links and probably built a Text The Nation topic around one of the saucier events.

Whilst on the subject of Adam going on holiday, don't forget to keep an eye out for the Guardian in a couple of weeks.

There are still 18 podcasts up at 6Music although I thought they were only going to be around for 30 days. They have kept Adam and Joe bobbing around in the top 10 comedy episodes for a couple of weeks.

Another old XFM show was unearthed a couple of weeks ago. You can find more details here.

Foxtrot Studios are attempting to profit from Adam and Joe. It would be remiss of me not to mention it but hmmm. EDIT - the app seems to have disappeared now.

Twitter flutters

The #lametofame hashtag brought some amusing results from Amanda Gardner and Sam Bowman.
I'm not a great fan of scanning mags for the internet while they're still on the newsstands but Leeon Jones tweeted this, bless 'im. He tweeted this too!
I guess Dom works in post production.
Nick Frost seems to be dipping his toe back in the muddy birdbath of Twitter again.
Robbie spotted this Kill Boggins poster in Great Titchfield Street.

Any Other Business

Terry Alderton has been able to get on with his primary function now that Vampire Weekend have eased up on their touring.*

If you're not familiar with these reviews then erm, familiarise yourself. Same goes for this.

This is just odd.

Mine's a triple.

Barmy nights.....

Leading on from last weeks entry, Attack the Block had it's wrap party at a small Georgian house in Soho on Sunday. I'm sure sore heads were enjoyed by all and I'm guessing they showed the little Cannes promo reel in a loop somewhere about the premises.

Now that the production status is about to change, the IMDB is laden with credits and Big Talk have tarted up their site but not added any more ATB info. Oow, how I'd love to get my sticky little fingers on some errant coding over there.

The new BFI July booklet plonked onto the doormat revealing the dates & times for BUG20: Thur 15th July 20:45 and Fri 23rd July 20:45 (Director's Cut) BFI Members booking starts from 1st June but mere mortals have to wait until 8th June. Heck, it only seems like last week that we went to BUG 19.

Last week, we went to BUG 19. It was the usual fun night despite the fact that Adam had been too busy to view all the content they showed. Happily, he had not been too busy to create a brand new entrance song, several YouTube comment routines and present a completely awesome edit of The Footie Song. I'm trying to think whether I've even seen that on the big screen before. If I have, then it would have only been the C4 version. This was magnificent. We have to hope that Adam will put it on YouTube when his hectic life calms down a little. If you're prepared to take a chance, grab a last minute ticket for next week's show. They always have returns & it's incredible to see these films projected so beautifully.

That's the thing about BUG. The wonderful team are in a position to get right back to the source and use the optimum quality footage to throw up on the screen. It makes wish your laptop was like Stretch Armstrong & you could bother it into enormo-vision proportions. His guests were the once quartet, now trio that goes by the name of Shynola and who work under the umbrella of none other than Ridley Scott's empire. Adam has hung around these guys for a long time, exchanging awesomenessities. It all started when they began to dabble in ventriloquism and they welcomed the opportunity to relive those halcyon days with Adam at BUG.

This week's Big Mixtape was further enhanced by the warmly welcomed return of Garth Jennings. I sense that Garth idolises Adam as much as Adam idolises Joe. Garth opens the door, sits down and just giggles at everything Adam does. He must be the most rewarding type of friend a person can have. He also sounds sensible and silly at the same time. I want a go on one of those, please.

Each time I think THIS is the best Mixtape show so far, Adam manages to surpass it with the next one. I'm not the biggest fan of Adam's shouty routines but the one he did this week made me leak with laughter. I reckon this catalogue of shows will be one of those things that people talk about in thirty years time and boast about 'being there' when they first aired. I should say some of this shit to Adam on the blog really but he'd probably think I was insane. I'm really looking forward to Sharon Horgan. I have a feeling they'll be bouncing off each other like a couple of schoolgirls' playthings.

Collins and Herring will continue to take care of the Saturday morning show until August at the very least. George Lamb is leaving the 6Music family in July so conjectures will be dribbling around the mouths of the various net-based social soap-boxes.

The BBC Strategies Consultation website went into meltdown today, causing them to extend the deadline for submissions. It will most likely be months before all the entries can be read and assessed.
The second Save BBC 6Music protest day was blessed with warm weather and a good PA system. You can see pictures and videos if you poke around here.

Adam said he would try to make an appearance but I didn't see him around. What with rehearsals and recordings, Mixtapes and voice-overs, BUGs and what-nots, I quite thought he'd go home to the family before heading back to record the Horgan show and then off for the Amsterdam BUG tonight. I have only heard one person say they saw him so maybe he did just that.

Richard Herring brushed past me on the way to the stage with his side-kick. He stopped to take off his jacket right in my vicinity. He mentions Adam's Birthday Time song in their latest Collings & Herrin podcast. I think he described it as 'brilliant'. What an idiot - I think my dictionary might need an upgrade. I may have misunderstood but it would seem that Richard also played a Song Wars song before his Lyric show started on Sunday.

This couple made me smile. They'd secured their banner to a couple of feather dusters. I was fascinated as I watched them diligently roll it up again before going home. How wonderfully practical.

I snagged a quick shot of Shaun and Matt but when I looked at it back on my computer, I saw I'd also caught the iconic, Ben Mercer.
Finally, with thanks to the Love6Music.com site, I had to link this wonderful Adam and Joe t-shirt.

The dearest and most glamorous Adam and Joe fan in the twittersphere deposited her own mixtape on Adam at Bug. He was clearly so touched and chuffed. He included wonderful picture of it on the blog.

Adam did a voice over for an Oxfam ad. Click the link for a piccie.

Chesney Hawkes tweeted a picture of himself that looked so much like the kind of silly pose Joe might have struck in bygone days, I had to pop it in here. In truth, Joe would probably have done something more provocative with his eyebrows and poked his ludicrous tongue out but in this cornish desert, I take my thrills where I can find them.

If you bump into Edgar Wright (and he's all over the place like a rash, so don't dismiss the idea) the correct way to address him henceforth shall be "Could you estimate how wide this road is?".

Nick Frost has been all over the retail outlet promoting his Amis drama "Money". I couldn't resist a little snap of him with lovely Lauren last week but I couldn't be bothered to get out of bed to snap him with sexy Shaun today. Nick has been very careful not to divulge anything spoilery about Attack The Block. Catch up with episode one of Money here and you'll be nicely prepped for the conclusion on Wednesday at 9pm.

On a sad note, the UK arm of Funny Or Die closed on Friday. I think the material will still be available on the server until the domain name sub runs out but there's a giggle shaped hole in my daily routine now.

Golden Nuggets

I suppose the biggest news since my last post is the Sony Radio Academy Gold win for
BBC 6Music's Adam and Joe Show.

Joe was too busy shooting and cutting but Adam and James Stirling were there. You can watch a webcast of the entire event here. I gave the presentation and Adam's speech to YouTube for safe-keeping.

You'll see that he thanked Video Wars genius Chris Salt and the original Stephen! Chris Evans and the rest of the room seemed to give such a warm response to the award. It's a shame Joe wasn't there to soak up the glory but he's probably relieved that he didn't have to make a speech. Adam did a wonderful job.

The entire presentation evening kicked off with an award for Best Newcomer which was given to 6Music's own Jarvis Cocker. You can listen to his speech. Sony have various interviews here including one with Jarvis but nothing with Adam though Metro has some lovely pictures.

The other news is that Adam's been prepping a pilot for a sit-com that's been bubbling around for a few months.
SAME TIME NEXT WEEK
Welcome to Toxborough Village Hall…home to a brand new comedy chat show for the BBC.
Hosted by the irrepressible housewife Celia Jesson (played by Joanna Neary) together with her ridiculously sensible husband Fred (Al Kerr) and dashing local actor Gerard Jeremy (played by Adam Buxton), these delightfully eccentric characters will be taking a hilarious look at life in and around their fictional village with video diaries, reviews, letters and songs and will also be joined by two mystery celebrity guests. It promises to be an event not to be missed!

Feel free to dress up in your finest provincial clothing for a night out at your local village hall!

The show will be recorded on Wednesday 19th May 2010 in London. If you'd like to join us at BBC TV Centre, then apply now.
Adam updated his own blog with a polite, sincere and amusing request to Mr Bowie.

The Big Mixtape show has been getting some really lovely vibes around the place. I thought I'd randomly link this one today. There was a fantastic response to Adam's request for questions to levy at Jon Ronson. I really loved this episode but don't make me choose!

In common with several 6Music DJs, they have started a Twitter account which I urge you to follow. Adam and James sent out a tweet to Victoria Coren, inviting her to guest on his show.

Adam has had three gigs - 100 Club, Are You Taking the Peace and the BUG Unkle launch special. While I remember, BUG have got a little shop with some t-shirts that might take your fancy. They have them in all the colours and sizes.

Adam will take BUG back to Amsterdam on 25th May. He's going to forget what the wife looks like at this rate, unless he takes her on a romantic trip.

BUG is also going to Norfolk for a special gig on 16th June.
Video festival open from 28 June to 10 July 2010, 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Free entry.
Adam Buxton's BUG on 16 June 2010. Tickets are £14 from Theatre Royal on 01603 630000 and the UEA on 01603 508050.

Attack the Block had a load of set visits from bloggers and journos after the Bank Holiday. These were meant to have happened a couple of weeks earlier but a catASHtrophy put the right people in the wrong places. I'll have my work cut out syphoning up the media bobbles when we get closer to the release date. If they're still shooting, I would think there can be no more than two weeks worth of principal photography left now. Nick Frost wrapped on Wednesday and this lovely lady was working that day too.

Studio Canal/Optimum will have been hard at work in Cannes and I'm trying not to think about whether they've taken a short promo package with them. HA - and even as I blogdraft, Film4 tweet this:-
Everyone here loves the Attack the Block promo reel - Joe Cornish's film still cutting but the 3 mins we saw were utterly awesome #cannes
It's quite unusual for Film London to post much about a film while it is still in production on the streets but they have this piece now.

Jodie Whittaker is going to be doing various press pieces for Royal Wedding and if this is anything to go by, Attack the Block will get a few name-checks.

In the same 80's strand as Royal Wedding, Nick Frost's Martin Amis drama, Money airs part one on 23rd May. I saw this ages ago and I'm really looking forward to seeing part two finally which I believe is aired the following week....or a couple of days later. I saw Royal Wedding a while back too and I hadn't realised it was only just coming on air. I've wittered about my unintentional Whittaker Watching before, haven't I? When she was cast in Attack The Block, I just thought "of course".

The Rajar figures had everyone at 6Music in a cock-a-hoop state this week.

If you haven't grabbed them before, the LiveJournal has links to freshly edited versions of the Coke Podcasts.

===================Below the Line======================

Since he was Adam's guest this week, I'm including a link to an interview with Hot Chip and Peter Serafinowicz.

The Love BBC 6 Music site has an amusing new video and don't forget to click for demonstration details.

Lauren Laverne did a wonderful show from Glastobury last week and announced the 6Music schedule. Sadly, Adam and Joe don't figure in it but I'll not give up hope until July. There's a lovely bit in The Times about Lauren Laverne.

Mr John Landis directed the most influential pop video of all time and that is now an indisputable fact.

Richard Herring is prepping for series two of As It Occurs To Me.

If you feel like singing a song of joy about the Sony Gold win, you could do a lot worse than this.

Finally - and added after the fact, I was not paying enough attention last week. I completely missed this priceless nonsense from Robin Cooper.

Why so quiet?

Truth be told, there hasn't been much to say of any great revelation over here but rather than leave it to grow weeds I'll bother a few keytops and see where I end up.

It seems I omitted something from my last post which should be rectified. I'm sure I tweeted it and plonked it on a message board but I feel the need to include Adam's (he's wearing a hat, you know) little video heralding his visit to Jersey.

There's a clip here that won't embed but dear Louis Theroux give a fond mention of his schoolboy buddies in this five minute film.

Remember when Adam had an incident with a fitted sheet and a shopping mall? Knock2Bag have included some audio from his March gig in their Podcast #9 which Adam also introduces.

I'm going to get this out of the way and then forget about it. Such is the desperate nature of the media, several sources are happy to report that Nick Clegg went to the same school as Adam and Joe, albeit a couple of years in advance of them. This has spawned a dribble of inane tweets that I feel like baking in a pie with some blackbirds but that's my fault for having too many columns in my Tweetdeck.

When Louis was on The One Show he gave some detail of a trip he and his brother took to the States with Nick and to all intents and purposes, it sounded as though he fagged for Nick, during his first term. Beyond that, any other nonsense is pure conjecture.

Adam's Sunday show is going from strength to strength. It's heavily trailed and the podcast remains at a healthy position in the charts. Just in case you didn't notice the addition to my last post, here's a Spotify link to Adam's "What I'm Listening To" tracks he did for the Observer the other weekend and another thank you to Kevin E G Perry because I saw from the hard copy that he had supplied me with something far more extensive than the tiny bit that got into print.

Nick Frost tweeted to the effect that he was having a good time working with Joe but another tweet implied that the silicon filled death bomb hovering over the country put paid to some on-set media visits.

The crowning glory of this post must surely go to the wonderful Chris Salt's film for Adam's version of "Changes". We are all familiar with his awesome talent but there is so much incredible detail in this, it really needs multiple viewings. Chris was also name-checked in Adam's show with Garth last Sunday.

Please play it and pass it on. Heck, it's so awesome, it's the front feature of Love6Music's satellite site.
You have done all that business to save 6Music, haven't you?

You can scuttle along to the next protest which happens just before the 'consultation' closes. The demo is on 22nd May and more details will come through this portal.

Lovely Lauren Laverne invited requests for her MirthMix section which resulted in Doctor Sexy steaming out of many a DAB on Wednesday lunchtime. You can catch the clip here.

Can't decide on your next cross-stitch project?
Look no further than this handy link.

Hot Sauce have gone live with their website and they've included a clip from

"Adam And Joe Go Tokyo" wherein Joe sports that t-shirt with the most bemusingly delicious slogan in the history of daft t-shirts.

Leon Trigg - the originator of the Schwarzenegger fanzine featured in Adam and Joe's Juvenilia section, had a film showing in the London Independent Film Festival earlier this week. Look out for other screenings.

==============Below-the-line-mentions============

If you're in London & you like your cinema-going to be truly experiential, nip along to UltraCulture's screening of The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans on 5th May 2010. If you're not familiar with central London, please understand that Charlie's map for the ICA is ......loose.

Absurd though it may seem, Jarvis Cocker is nominated for a 'Rising Star Award' at the Sony's. There is still time to vote for him.

Funny Or Die UK have launched their YouTube Channel wherein young James looks far too sweet and beardy to be such a naughty man.

Speaking of beards and Funny Or Die, they hosted another incredible session with BeardyMan himself, beatboxing requests on a live stream the other night. I lost an entire hour of my silly life to it.

One final note of apology. I don't seem to get email alerts on the rare occasions when comments are made on this blog. I feel that I've checked all the right boxes but I still don't get them. Sorry, I did not mean to ignore anyone.

It's ludicrous how much I can waffle when there's nothing to say, isn't it?
