Junebug

This month, Adam set off for another tour of L.A. comedy clubs and there was rumour of a Nerdist podcast which has come to nought as far as I can tell. He did these though and BLOGGED about another podcast:
Mon 2nd Jun - Crash Test at the UCBT in L.A.
Wed 4th Jun – Nerd Meltdown at Meltdown Comics in L.A.
Sat 7th Jun - The Prompter at the Meltdown in L.A. (and the Buxty Birthday, fyi)
Sun 8th Jun - at the Mack Sennett Studio in L.A.





Adam returned to Sheffield Docfest and the lucky sods got his Bowie Special, Cobbler Bob an' all.

Such a wonderful venue. I wish I could have been there.

The XL Recordings BUG Special worked so well in London that he took it to both Glasgow and Manchester.  Read more here including Milland Suman's bespoke intro film.

It looks like Edwyn Collins and Marc Riley went along to the Manchester show and Frank Black turned up on screen via Skype/FaceTime at the Glasgow gig. Adam phoned in an interview with RadMac which is preserved forever here.



Adam found the time to add his voice to more Ladybird. Check out the full range including three Chris Judge books.

This month, we discovered that the Adam and Joe Song Wars Vol. 2 is no longer on iTunes. It makes me feel sick to my very core. I fear Dreamboat records went the way of the ferry man.

There were a lot of tweets linking this, though.

Now here's a really absurd thing. Very rarely, I see someone taunt me with a tweeted picture of their signed copy of the Adam and Joe Book. Don't ask me if all the planets in the idiotholeverse were strangely aligned but out of nowhere, TWO people decided to tweet similar things On The Same Day (I think you know the voice you're supposed to read that in).





On 25th June, Adam tirelessly bended his knees and pulled funny faces for a slew of award-happy winners at the Broadcast Digital Awards. One Two Three ....there are more somewhere.

I got cross about this:



The Metro included Lee Hardcastle's claymation trailer as voiced by Adam.



The only mention of Joe this month was continued chatter relating to Edgar leaving his Ant-Man director's chair cold. Although I was enchanted by this.



Alan Davies rolled out a new show for Dave which included stand-up John Robbins recounting his friend Paul's Bringer of the Spiders story. There were bits of Twitter snorting when this happened but John confirmed it was his mate's story. Actually, Dave are repeating the series and I do recommend you entertain yourself with it. Episode one includes the actual Jon RonSon. I'd quite like to see Adam guesting on series two. No, actually, I'd quite like to see Adam hosting series two. I think he would be very comfortable there and Mr Davies doesn't need to do any more telly.....really.....only a bit?



I'm including this because we need to encourage the young people to watch telly.



and for later on in life, this discovery was made.



I have no idea what this is all about but that looks like one tasty sandwich.

January, sick and tired, you've been hanging on me.

The joy of blogging tools means this post looks like it was published much, much earlier than July, doesn't it?

I never really even finished the December post so it's going to be OK to put this here, isn't it?





Eggheads had an Adam and Joe question on their New Year's Eve show too.

Adam put this wonderful Lego animation from Chris Salt on his YT channel. He commissioned it for his live Bowie shows along with one from the Layzell Brothers. The latter has yet to be noticed on the internet, I fear.



Edgar posted a picture of Joe on Walt's bench.

Attack the Block's composer, Steven Price was nominated for a Bafta, Golden Globe and Oscar this month for his work on Gravity.

Joe's name was included in a rumour about He-Man.

Edgar posted another picture of Joe. He looks like cheeky schoolboy on the first day of term.



Less so in this one.

Kristen made this cushion inspired by the wonderful Baaddad.




Adam was on Eight out of Ten Cats Does Countdown and he made this song.






and he trended....




Adam joined Graham Linehan for Chain Reaction and it seems to be on the iPlayer still.

Jim Field's book has been enhanced by Adam's voice.

A Bird in the Hand is Worth a Delay in The Block

One of these days, I will be committed enough to update this blog on either a regular basis or at least on a day when I have some headline news to kick it off with. Sadly, today is not one of those days and this post is simply an effort to tidy up my Saved Links drawer, as it were.

In a desert of Adam and Joe freshness, the two bits of information that could realistically be classed as news since my last post are that as far as I can tell, Adam has agreed to be in the line-up for the Sod Cancer charity gig in the Bloomsbury Theatre at the end of April and the release date for Attack the Block seems to have moved on to Friday, 13th May 2011. I dunno if anyone at Frostitution wants to note that. Optimum and Big Talk are still not updating.

Don't forget that Issue 34 of Little While Lies will contain Attack the Block features and with any luck, Jon Hamblin's interview with Joe should turn up in the April issue of SFX Magazine. Both these publications should hit the shelves within a few days of each other. If I wasn't such a self-deprecating dullard, I'd try to do an email interview with the blighter myself.

While I'm in the area, ATB's Jodie Whittaker has been talking about Marchlands, which started on ITV last night. ATB's beautiful producer won an ENVY award last month.

This lovely man is writing a song a week to put on YouTube. Follow and encourage him here. Naturally, he needed a visual element and he approached Adam with a request to submit a picture of a bird. With all due respect and I may be ridiculously biased but I think Adam's was the most enjoyable response he got.

I presume everyone caught up with Adam's romantic trip to the Maldives. This picture was in the hard copy but not on-line.One Guardian reader thinks he should have his own column.

As I write, there are still tickets for next week's Tabernacle gig and a couple of seats available for Adam's Röyksopp BUG Special but I think you'll have to phone. More details about the event here and here.

Shots also published an interview with him which for the moment, I have put here. The most exciting news contained therein must surely be about the proposed BUG Specials in Edinburgh and Manchester.

BUG 23 has been and gone but there's a nice little summary here. A few miles down the road, David Byrne was on stage after a glorious screening of his film. It saddened me a little to think that Adam couldn't be there. I suspect there was the biggest gathering of Twitsquadroners thus far for the BUG Director's Cut the following week.

Since my last post, a couple of 6Music items have been bubbling around. First of all, and I would imagine as no surprise, it seems the website will will no longer exist as quite the treasure trove it more recently proved to be. Perhaps Adam has more influence over Thommo than he might imagine as it may transpire that his wish to abolish webcams has been noted and acted upon.

Furthermore, the spring schedule has been discussed but the biggest news there is the acquisition of Mr Radcliffe who will join his chum, Mr Maconie as they transfer their Radio 2 show over to our own, exclusive and secret station. Nemone's maternal condition makes way for the pairing as she transfers to the weekend breakfast show and I guess Lauren will liberate the wonderful Huey Morgan from his current six day week schedule during the next couple of months if her telly commitments don't exhaust her.

A little bit of international squadronage here. The lovely Jennifer drove through some beautiful scenery with Adam and Joe for company.

While I'm about it, this Lynchgasm is priceless. At around 5:50 Edgar dessicated into something that can only put me in mind of Joe's interview with Sir Rodge. It is the sweetest thing.


Another enjoyable Big Talk production won a Comedy Award last month too.

Adam's friend and MeeBox contributor, David OReilly has won an award with his External World film!

6 Music are responsible for endless joy in my life. Take a listen to Beardyman's visit with Huey this week. I don't think I would have fully appreciated Metronomy without 6Music and they have offered the first single from their upcoming album for total frees here. You can view their video here and then it may tickle you to watch a couple of reversed versions here and here.

If you don't feel I've given enough hilarious entertaining visual links there are three more I'm going to share. I'll start with a technically torturing phone short from The Incredible Suit.

This is surely the best Alan Partridge episode yet.

There's been the odd grumble around the net that this film rips off what Adam does. I guess it's possible that the author is aware of Adam's work and style but this is entertaining stuff and it was put together with a degree of care that few of us would be prepared to apply. Give the guy a break.

Sometimes I notice tweets along the lines of 'Adam and Joe did this ages ago but better'. They may well have done but audiences are constantly refreshing and renewing. Love them as I do, in real terms Adam and Joe have been tucked away in a relatively bijou niche for most of their professional lives thus far. I feel it's completely legitimate for others to be inspired enough by them to unconsciously or otherwise emulate them. If they happen to be of the kind of profile that enjoys a wider audience, that can only be good for everyone.

Golden Nuggets

I suppose the biggest news since my last post is the Sony Radio Academy Gold win for
BBC 6Music's Adam and Joe Show.

Joe was too busy shooting and cutting but Adam and James Stirling were there. You can watch a webcast of the entire event here. I gave the presentation and Adam's speech to YouTube for safe-keeping.



You'll see that he thanked Video Wars genius Chris Salt and the original Stephen! Chris Evans and the rest of the room seemed to give such a warm response to the award. It's a shame Joe wasn't there to soak up the glory but he's probably relieved that he didn't have to make a speech. Adam did a wonderful job.

The entire presentation evening kicked off with an award for Best Newcomer which was given to 6Music's own Jarvis Cocker. You can listen to his speech. Sony have various interviews here including one with Jarvis but nothing with Adam though Metro has some lovely pictures.

The other news is that Adam's been prepping a pilot for a sit-com that's been bubbling around for a few months.

Adam updated his own blog with a polite, sincere and amusing request to Mr Bowie.

The Big Mixtape show has been getting some really lovely vibes around the place. I thought I'd randomly link this one today. There was a fantastic response to Adam's request for questions to levy at Jon Ronson. I really loved this episode but don't make me choose!

In common with several 6Music DJs, they have started a Twitter account which I urge you to follow. Adam and James sent out a tweet to Victoria Coren, inviting her to guest on his show.

Adam has had three gigs - 100 Club, Are You Taking the Peace and the BUG Unkle launch special. While I remember, BUG have got a little shop with some t-shirts that might take your fancy. They have them in all the colours and sizes.

Adam will take BUG back to Amsterdam on 25th May. He's going to forget what the wife looks like at this rate, unless he takes her on a romantic trip.

BUG is also going to Norfolk for a special gig on 16th June.

Attack the Block had a load of set visits from bloggers and journos after the Bank Holiday. These were meant to have happened a couple of weeks earlier but a catASHtrophy put the right people in the wrong places. I'll have my work cut out syphoning up the media bobbles when we get closer to the release date. If they're still shooting, I would think there can be no more than two weeks worth of principal photography left now. Nick Frost wrapped on Wednesday and this lovely lady was working that day too.

Studio Canal/Optimum will have been hard at work in Cannes and I'm trying not to think about whether they've taken a short promo package with them. HA - and even as I blogdraft, Film4 tweet this:-

It's quite unusual for Film London to post much about a film while it is still in production on the streets but they have this piece now.

Jodie Whittaker is going to be doing various press pieces for Royal Wedding and if this is anything to go by, Attack the Block will get a few name-checks.

In the same 80's strand as Royal Wedding, Nick Frost's Martin Amis drama, Money airs part one on 23rd May. I saw this ages ago and I'm really looking forward to seeing part two finally which I believe is aired the following week....or a couple of days later. I saw Royal Wedding a while back too and I hadn't realised it was only just coming on air. I've wittered about my unintentional Whittaker Watching before, haven't I? When she was cast in Attack The Block, I just thought "of course".

The Rajar figures had everyone at 6Music in a cock-a-hoop state this week.

Lauren Laverne did a wonderful show from Glastobury last week and announced the 6Music schedule. Sadly, Adam and Joe don't figure in it but I'll not give up hope until July. There's a lovely bit in The Times about Lauren Laverne.

Mr John Landis directed the most influential pop video of all time and that is now an indisputable fact.

Richard Herring is prepping for series two of As It Occurs To Me.

If you feel like singing a song of joy about the Sony Gold win, you could do a lot worse than this.


Finally - and added after the fact, I was not paying enough attention last week. I completely missed this priceless nonsense from Robin Cooper.

Why so quiet?

Truth be told, there hasn't been much to say of any great revelation over here but rather than leave it to grow weeds I'll bother a few keytops and see where I end up.

It seems I omitted something from my last post which should be rectified. I'm sure I tweeted it and plonked it on a message board but I feel the need to include Adam's (he's wearing a hat, you know) little video heralding his visit to Jersey.


There's a clip here that won't embed but dear Louis Theroux give a fond mention of his schoolboy buddies in this five minute film.

Remember when Adam had an incident with a fitted sheet and a shopping mall? Knock2Bag have included some audio from his March gig in their Podcast #9 which Adam also introduces.

I'm going to get this out of the way and then forget about it. Such is the desperate nature of the media, several sources are happy to report that Nick Clegg went to the same school as Adam and Joe, albeit a couple of years in advance of them. This has spawned a dribble of inane tweets that I feel like baking in a pie with some blackbirds but that's my fault for having too many columns in my Tweetdeck.

When Louis was on The One Show he gave some detail of a trip he and his brother took to the States with Nick and to all intents and purposes, it sounded as though he fagged for Nick, during his first term. Beyond that, any other nonsense is pure conjecture.

Adam's Sunday show is going from strength to strength. It's heavily trailed and the podcast remains at a healthy position in the charts. Just in case you didn't notice the addition to my last post, here's a Spotify link to Adam's "What I'm Listening To" tracks he did for the Observer the other weekend and another thank you to Kevin E G Perry because I saw from the hard copy that he had supplied me with something far more extensive than the tiny bit that got into print.

Nick Frost tweeted to the effect that he was having a good time working with Joe but another tweet implied that the silicon filled death bomb hovering over the country put paid to some on-set media visits.

The crowning glory of this post must surely go to the wonderful Chris Salt's film for Adam's version of "Changes". We are all familiar with his awesome talent but there is so much incredible detail in this, it really needs multiple viewings. Chris was also name-checked in Adam's show with Garth last Sunday.

Leon Trigg - the originator of the Schwarzenegger fanzine featured in Adam and Joe's Juvenilia section, had a film showing in the London Independent Film Festival earlier this week. Look out for other screenings.

One final note of apology. I don't seem to get email alerts on the rare occasions when comments are made on this blog. I feel that I've checked all the right boxes but I still don't get them. Sorry, I did not mean to ignore anyone.

It's ludicrous how much I can waffle when there's nothing to say, isn't it?
