2016 in a blogshell - July to December

I used to do a blogpage each month but my life is too rich and full to spend that kind of time on nonsense so I am celebrating the start of the year by trawling through twelve months of tweets and faves. There's not a lot of waffle from me but a trip down tweetory lane does provide a decent potted history without too much strain on this brain.

It got quite lumpy so I have split the year in half. The first half is here.


July

This has skills and they are brills.

July started with one of the silliest events of the year.






By all accounts, Adam's interview with Louis Theroux at Latitude was the hottest ticket of the day, and when I say hottest.....




    

This month's pods were two with Richard Ayoade and one with Sally Wainwright. If you'd like to watch Sally's Bronte drama, it'll be on the iPlayer for a bit, as will the two part Last Tango in Halifax shown over Christmas.





Adam did his Bowie show in Dublin this month and we got the first whiff of a potential live reunion.


August gave us our first joyful nugget from Sketchy Magpie!











This month's pods were with Bill Hader and that's all you need in one month.

One of my personal favourite sound nuggets realised in drawn animation by Sketchy Magpie.




September

This month kicked off with a glorious podcast with Michael Palin, then another one with Louis Theroux and finally Michaela Coel.

October

The Times selects its podcast of choice.


This month, the possibility of an Adam and Joe live show became more of a reality, and not without its problems. The event was finally announced by the BFI on 25th October - with a performance date of 15th December and Adam was letting everyone get involved.

He interviewed Louis live on stage again, this time at the Royal Festival Hall as part of a special My Scientology Movie screening. YOu can watch the interview here.






The podcasts this month were from Rory O'Neill and Tash Demetriou.

November



Adam only released one podcast this month (with Matt Berry), but what a pod! He also recorded a pod about grief.

The year is almost over and for those of us who didn't keel over, the 15th was Adam and Joe Day.

2016 in a blogshell - Jan to June

I hope 2016 has been good for you.

We're told it has been rubbs for most of the world, in the sense that a lot of famous people who shaped our lives have wandered off before, or roundabout their time, and that the western world has opted to take a step back and undo all the good things that have taken so long to put in place.

Sod all that. Adam and Joe REUNITED last month, for heckin's sake!

I'm getting ahead of myself.  Plenty of other stuff went down this year, and not quite all of it was bad.

January

The year kicked off with London Live showing the Adam and Joe Show on their funny little tellovision channel.  What an absurd joy that was.  They seeem to be randomly working their way through the odd series, here and there.

February


Adam did a gig at The Bush and the first night of the BUG 50 this month but you can see too many tweets, can't you?

March

You can read more about the Bowie BUG here.  In March, Adam kickstarted his podcasts again with a double wuzza whammy.







April




April brought us podcasts from Kathy Burke,  Garth Jennings,  Richard Herring  and Sara Pascoe but I'm a little saddened to note that the way Acast works, means that the SquareSpace jingle is no longer playing. It has been surplanted by they equally joyful Leesa mattress ad. Don't forget, if you fancy a New Year Mattress enter Buxton80 at the check-out for a whole £80 off init.

In Adam's last pod of 2016 he implied we'd not hear from him again until around March 17, which means that if he's done a pod with Garth to promote SING, it will be for the sell-through release rather than the theatrical. SO, I do urge everyone to see this joy of a film that I'm privildged to have caught twice already because I am a raving ponce machine.

I'm hoping that Kerry rekindles her comedy relationship with Adam as an upcoming podguest in the 2017s.

I was thrilled to see this outside such a prestigious venue but the gig didn't happen in the end, sadly.


Adam's pod really started to gather steam in April.




May

Adam gave his Bowie BUG to the good people of Brighton in May before heading up to Glasgow. Tom Sayer liked it.


Adam and Iain Lee did a bit of reciprocal podcasting here and here followed by some Doc Brown.

Adam's pod is still riding high, this time featuring in The Week, the NME and Huffington Post doing this piece.

The Yorkshire Post reviewed a Bowie BUG Special here.
As a long-time BlackSquadroneer, it made me very happy to see Adam had kindly done this for lovely Sophie.


June

BUG 51 was wonderful with Lee Hardcastle guesting on stage and Lord Edgar Wright swishing his folicles in the audience.


This month we had podcasts with Marc Riley, John Robins and a double bubble from Jonny Greenwood!

Happy Old Year

The month began with someone digging out an old Glasto photo, to herald start of nearly three weeks of twitter enquiries for the whenabouts of the Joe-based pod release.


BUG 49 had three shows this month, starting with a Roisin Murphy interview on the 4th, then the Director's Cut the following week (wherein previous A &  J Show producer Claire Slevin let out a whalloping great "Stephen!") The playlist is here. At this point, the general public were unaware of how recently poor Adam's father had passed away.


The Invisible Dot announced the incredible line-up for their Birthday Bash in January:
"With Adam Buxton, Harry Hill, Josie Long, Sara Pascoe, Simon Amstell, Tim Key, The Horne Section MC - and more to be announced.

The BUG team also announced that the first BUG show of 2016 celebrates 10 years of the Because label group and a great video back catalogue.

Miranda Sawyer included Adam in her roundup of 2015 radio good things, even though he didn't.....

Middle of the month gave us a request from Adam for some interaction to include in his Christmas Day waffle with Joe.

Denver showed Attack the Block in 35mm as their monthly AV Club Sci Fi night.

Just a reminder that the Telegraph printed Nigel Buxton's Obituary on the 18th and Adam divulged that he watched this film with Joe, some other friends and family on the following Friday evening.


The Hollywood Reporter carried this piece about Section 6 and Joe Cornish.

Jarvis Cocker played Joe's Jools on Christmas Day waffle during his 21st Dec show and this happened on the 22nd.



Christmas Eve brought the podcast interview with Joe and we were not disappointed. The bliss of hearing them enjoying each other's company so warmly, was the perfect start to festivities.

Then Christmas day came and we had a present-opening pod, just like the old days but more modern. You can find both pods linked here.

 It seems London Live tv channel are showing series one of The Adam and Joe Show from Monday at 9pm.

Finally, I want to share a little theory, yet to be dispelled. I reckon the three bloody fingers on Fin's helmet in The Force Awakens, are a little nod to Moses' scratches in Attack the Block.


I do hope everyone has a splendid and frutiful 2016, with many more pods from Adam and a bit of a film from Joe.

Too Much Information

I'm so horribly behind with this blog that I'm going to try three months at a time. It'll make it a bit lumbering but I can apply the toffee hammer at a later date, I suppose.

One of the first things Adam did this month was break Twitter with a hashtag.  Days of mirth ensued.



Ah. Good times.


I am over twelve and what is this?

Adam and Joe's Bobby De Niro song nicely shoe-horned in at Sabotage Times.


In the absence of any news from Lord LongShanks, I am going to post a Joe Cornish Photography tweet each month until the rotter shows his pale hand.
May 1st apparently heralded the last day of recording for Messy Goes to Okido.  This is a show made for CBeebies and has 52 x 11 minutes episodes, apparently.

Out of the blue, a little film popped up on the Channel 4 website featuring Adam Buxton and Romesh Ranganathan discussing some sort of gaming thing. It's explicite so I won't embed it.

Adam joined Ruth and Martin's Album Club for some waffle about Light Up Gold by Parquet Courts.

Bank Holiday Monday got off to a slow start so I posed a question, that was correctly answered.



In the middle of the month, Zoe Ball delighted us with a real sighting of the elusive Cornballs at the Man Up premiere.

Adam (and Joe) was confronted with two copies of Song Wars Volume 2 to sign at The Idler gig.



On 21st  May, Adam spoke to ex 10CC guy & music vid directing behemoth Kevin Godley about his book Spacecake at the Apple Store, Regent Street. I've either lost the link for the podcast, or it was never put on iTunes.

June kicked off with BUG 47. The guest directors were Becky and Joe and this heralded the return of Adam in the hosting costume.


June is the month of Adam's birthing anniversary too.




He also took a Best Of BUG to DOCFest in Sheffield again this year.


Mid-month, Adam hosted the RTS Awards for SkyArts. There are some clips here.

On 24th June Adam was meant to be on telly for Would I Lie to You (Repeat) and Catsdown, but the latter was swapped for a different episode. Didn't bother Adam though - he was playing Bush Hall that night.

The month rounded off with another repeat of Adam and Joe's Famous Guy on Four extra.

July pretty much began with Manchester International Festival and Adam was on RadMac's 3rd July show to celebrate.  He also took part in a performance capture event for Ed Atkins.





I've probably put too many pictures in here but I'm giddy at the thought of Adam being so close to Tim Key.

Adam returned to London to present a New Director's Showcase for Saatchi at the BFI.

Anton Savage interviewed Adam ahead of his Dublin show and on the self-same day, the loon did the Comedian's Comedian Podcast in London's Soho Theatre, then raced down to Bristol on one of those taxi-bike things for a late show.


Looks like he managed to sort out accomodation for a layover in Bristol, though. Show reviewed here.



Tom Dunne interviewed Adam via the phone on his show, ahead of the Vodaphone Festival in Dublin and there was a review here.

I do enjoy a bit of random mid-month pleasure


There was a free screening of Attack the Block in Brooklyn

Adam's new episode of Catsdown was aired on 25th July, finally.

I call this picture "Happy in Dublin"



The month ended on a sadder note and Adam was moved to tweet a tribute.
