July Duly Noted

I know, I know......just when you thought you'd never have to put up with my rambling nonsense ever again, I shoot one past the defence and into the back of the internet.

One of the reasons I've been reluctant to return is the lumbering ads with which Google misguidedly obscure all interesting content. As soon as I see one plastsered over a page that refuses to move, I go somewhere else.  However, I shall not waiver from my resolve to never spend any money on blogging about Adam and Joe or any time that could be spent gainfully elsewhere.

We reccommend you run Windows Erros Scan because unlike so very, many online marketing tools, we don't have the algorythm that would have told us you're using a Mac

The joy of this steamy, summer month is that we've had clear, almost physical evidence that both the Adam and the Joe are 99 per cent intact and mingling with their preferred species.

Speaking of Denny Different....Denny of Geek.

Before I forget, this news slipped in towards the end of the month. Attack the Block will be screened outdoors in the shell of Battersea Power Station.

Adam recorded another episode of Eight out of Ten Cats Does Countdown but I don't know when it will air.

On July 5th, Channel4 aired Attack the Block again and became entangled in a trend that proves 5 per cent of tweeting viewers don't watch sportball.

On the same evening, lovely Sarah Clarke spotted a film map which included the film too. Then iTunes featured the film as Rental of the Week, which was nice. Was that odd or very clever timing?

At the last minute (so far as my heady diary is concerned), Adam hosted the last in the current season of Invisible Dot New Wave nights up in the gorgeous little King's Cross venue. These wonderful people also annouced a December date for Adam's new live show in the beautiful Union Chapel. Norwich booked Adam to bring the XL Recordings BUG Special to the Playhouse in October. Check Hobbsy's gig page for more details.

The BFI have a short clip from their version of the show featuring Felix Buxton but the blighters don't allow embedding.

Adam also played his Kernel Panic show in both Oxford and Cambridge like some boater-topped punter.
I think I'm right in saying this happened at one of those venues too.

I went to a screening of Boyhood which was followed by a Q and A with Richard Linklater, his daughter and the Boy of said Hood. My heart was in my mouth until he came on stage in long trousers as I'd been nervous that Dick would have the balls to be showing off in those shorts that Joe delighted in describing from a DVD extra.

If ever I get around to retro-blogging back to January, you'll be eager to learn that a couple of months ago Edgar and Joe climbed down from the Ant-Man hill due to differential differences.  The Guardian's Ben Child gave some considered waffle here.  Kevin Feige was put under the Empire Terror Lamp of Hewitt And 0'Hara which is check-outable here by visual and audible means, depending upon which is more reliable, your eyeskills or your earskills. Whatever anyone says, Feige looks like someone birthed him on a Wacom tablet and that is either a good thing or a bad thing.

Edgar is now engaged in a Fox project, apparently. Paul Rudd had this to say at Comic Con, wherein he mentions that Joe Cornish is a genius. Obviously, that's ridiculous so I guess Mr Magico must have been at work again with his mind tricks.

Legendary have approached Joe about directing Skull Island, the King Kong prequel, according to TheWorldAndHisWife.

Now here's a super delight. David Doughty has made a Spotify list that will have your head nodding like it's on the parcel shelf of a 1970's Austin Allegro.

Several people thought these Dragons Den-ers were Adam and Joe (or Adam and Smerch). What the?

Ally Farrell found this. I wish it said 'Made in Spain'.

Finally, to my great joy, Adam decided to introduce everyone to this via Twitter.

If you're interested in catching up on earlier Adam and Joe nonsense, check the dated links down on the right hand side. It's fairly up-to-date for the time being.

Mayte!

I've been looking forward to getting the May missive sorted because it's packed with Buxty picture joy.

Adam's Zavid Bowie Special deservedly won a Radio Academy Award! Blonde radio presenting bookends Annie Nightingale and Edith Bowman tweeted congratulations.

However, he kicked off the month with this delightful picture from the pantry of the Buxton Billet.

Then he went on to upload all the old, beloved XFM Podcasts. The 'Best Of' version has Zac's artwork.

He did a gig for Friends of the Earth....(and another picture here)

He also hosted the Design Week Awards (more pix here, here and here).

The following week, he took Kernel Panic for another twirl around the country. Tickets sold out so quickly in Nottingham that he had to add another show.

He lent his voice to George's Foot in the Door video.

Adam posted this picture in May and I'm hoping it heralds his inclusion in an episode of Gadget Man. It might have just been a light lunch with Graham Linehan, though.

Julian Oxley wrote a review of the Leeds show.

I told you there would be a lot of lovely pictures this month.

Adam was briefly on The Horne Section which I really ought to put on my nuggets blog since it's gone from the iPlayer now. Can I also recommend Alex Horne Breaks The News from Dave? Thank you.

The month finished up with the first outing of XL Recordings BUG Special at the BFI.

This beautiful evening included a superb on-stage interview with Nick Heyward Felix Buxton.

More pictures from Ben Meadows here and here plus WoznotWoz took this Instagram. Creative Hub reviewed the night.

It doesn't give me any pleasure at all to relate this is the month when Edgar Wright (and therefore Joe Cornish) ceased to work on Ant-Man. I cannot begin to imagine how this has felt for them both. They had worked for so long to bring this to the screen and had been encouraged all the way along the line, until now. If you look back over the various interviews throughout the years, any reference made was always tentative. We may never know if that was because they were always wary that their concept might not eventually be accepted by the Marvelverse but they, especially Edgar, had their feet firmly wedged in the starting blocks and this must have felt like they'd twisted their ankles seconds before the gun went off.

It was a busy month for fan activity too.

A dear Twitter friend was inspired by some frozen weesticks.

and this fantatic compilation was honed by Dan Gale that will do things to your eyes that'll have you reaching for the Revitalift.

Finally, why not pass a few moments looking at Adam's Vines?

Annoyingly, I can't see how to embed with an audio toggle. It's either on (tiny bit irritating after a while) or off (eerily quiet). Soz.

Saturday, 1 February 2014

January, sick and tired, you've been hanging on me.

The joy of blogging tools means this post looks like it was published much, much earlier than July, doesn't it?

I never really even finished the December post so it's going to be OK to put this here, isn't it?

Eggheads had an Adam and Joe question on their New Year's Eve show too.

Adam put this wonderful Lego animation from Chris Salt on his YT channel. He commissioned it for his live Bowie shows along with one from the Layzell Brothers. The latter has yet to be noticed on the internet, I fear.

Edgar posted a picture of Joe on Walt's bench.

Attack the Block's composer, Steven Price was nominated for a Bafta, Golden Globe and Oscar this month for his work on Gravity.

Joe's name was included in a rumour about He-Man.

Edgar posted another picture of Joe. He looks like cheeky schoolboy on the first day of term.

Less so in this one.

Kristen made this cushion inspired by the wonderful Baaddad.

Adam was on Eight out of Ten Cats Does Countdown and he made this song.

and he trended....

Adam joined Graham Linehan for Chain Reaction and it seems to be on the iPlayer still.

Jim Field's book has been enhanced by Adam's voice.

OI FROG! Book Trailer from Jim Field on Vimeo.

This Podbean episode includes Adam too.

This turned up for no apparent reason but what the hey.

Oktoberfest

Adam kicked off the month with four gigs for "Comedy Central Live" in Stockholm and Gottenburg but there was precious little evidence of it.

Joe shunted over to L.A. for who knows how long.

@Monastico exhibited her felted artwork of Adam and Joe.

Adam got jiggy with the Brighton audience.

Edgar & Joe were tightening up the Ant-man script and there were casting rumours of Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon Levett. On the 24th, Edgar tweeted a picture of Joe. Thedgar.

Sarah Anne blogged about Adam's first live show in Glasgow and then BUG went to Bergen.

Ian Greaves found this very early sound file featuring Adam with Tracey MacLeod in 2000.

At the end of the month, Lou Reed passed away a tad too soon but after a rockin' good life so thoughts turned to the sexy rock tortoise.

Mayish Update

Once again, I wrote this in August but I reserve the right to be as timey wimey as I ruddy, well please.

Adam popped up in The Skinny this month and there are some pictures from Belfast in this gallery. The Observer carried an interview, the Manchester Evening News had this, The List this and Marielle Osmont wrote this.

Finally in the review department, longtime fan, Sean Murricane not only wrote a lovely blog but got a personal thank you from Adam.

Ealing council announced a comedy festival in Walpole Park and Adam's doing a Big Tent version of BUG there with the help of the lovely people at Nomad Cinema.

Some of the Best of BUGs around the country have been daubing the hands of visitors with Adam's face.

The Prince Charles Cinema double billed Attack the Block with Critters for a couple of evenings in May.

There was a tiny bit more mention of Ant-Man (for which Joe has penned the script with Edgar Wright) in a Marvel update.

At the end of the month, Adam was asked to host a discussion at the Regent Street Applestore with Michael Shannon as he was in town to promote The Iceman.

As with everything he does, Adam immersed himself into thorough research and worked hard to present his own brand of interview. He even made some pictures which, for one reason and another, didn't see the light of day until he showed them to a small crowd at his early Kernel Panic previews.

Adam had the sense that the interview wasn't going well. You'll find it on iTunes in Zodcast form, so you can decide but there were several people who took the time to tweet their delight.

You may remember that back in November, Adam introduced The Man Who Fell To Earth as his Screen Epiphany at the BFI. Finally, in May a small clip of the introduction was put on the website.

Someone's put a load of stüffe on the internet.

'Tis the season of chocs and mallow bunny bits

I had a packet of choccie raisins a minute ago but I can't find them now.

Apart from that last post, there's been precious little real information on here since New Year's Eve so my aim is to remedy that. This'll be long and you won't read it all.

Whilst reminding everyone about the imminent 6Music Easter Week Bowie Love-in featuring a couple of hours with Adam Buxton on Easter Sunday, I can finally share a link to the on-stage interview that preceded Adam's Bowie-Based introduction to his Screen Epiphany at the BFI last year. Sadly, they are no longer hosting these films at their dedicated microsite and don't support embedding so there's no sexier way of linking this other than hotting up his page and leaving you to navigate from there.

The edit makes it seem as though the interviewer tried to steal the show but the actual introduction seemed more balanced at the time. It's a pity they don't include any of the other hoopla Adam gave us but if you've been to a BUG recently, you'll have an idea. It wuz laughful with fond dizrespectocitization.

Sky Atlantic have been repeating BUG and Adam has put the first episode on his YT Channel if you're overseas, too lazy or too self-righteous to have watched it by more devious means.
Enjoy!

It would seem those Sky fools do not intend to commission a second series. Listen (and watch) what Adam has to say about that here (recorded at the Norwich Playhouse earlier this month). This is an ideal opportunity for BBC2 to swoop in and take BUG over, you'd think.

Adam is featuring in Kevin Eldon's new Sunday evening show "It's Kevin" at the moment. I say featuring - he's in at least one sketch. Lovely Sally Grosart has made a Paper Person of his character.

Take a little break from reading and watch a Famous Guy clip from Edinburgh there.

After one of Adam's radio shows with Edith, a lot of people were asking about the source of that insanely wonky boooozum inflection piece. It's here.

Robyn Hitchcock had a birthday gig in Shoreditch. Not only was Adam there, he joined the crowd on stage.

There were tweeted pictures from Adam's Union Chapel gig although this one looks like The Horne Section.

I don't want to make this post too lumpy with video links but Adam uploaded a higher res version of his Popepropriation video to coincide with the recent Italian smoking party.

Emma Gutteridge shared some lovely photographs of Adam at the DiscoShed DJing gig.

Tim made this Skyfall/Buxton mash to delight your ears and eyes.

In the last couple of months, Adam chose Soundcloud to put some of his beautiful nuggets that a) don't have YouTubery to go with or b) are so good, they need to be downloadable for mp3 playerage. To single one of them out would be wrong but I was never going to be allowed into the kingdom of right.

You can read about and listen to Adam's Red Nose Day activities here at the new home of my nugget blog. The old nugget blog will be pulled at the end of April. I transferred the words but the sound may take a while longer to link up, although they are all online at Archive.org.

The Grimshaw man also showed Adam's Sushi Song during his late night Red Nose Day show on BBC1.

Adam's diary continues to fill and I've linked my silly list up at the top of this blog. Do check to see if BUG is coming to your town. As well as London's regular shows next week, there are dates for places like Bradford, Sheffield, Brummingshire, Belfast, Leicester and even Lincoln in the mix now. He's taking his Fat Boy Slim show to Brighton and doing a Warp Records Special in London.

You know, the BUG team are always open to venue suggestions. If your town has a cool place with projection facilities, a good sound system and preferably a nice bar, drop them a line.

Adam's Leicester Square Best of BUG was a sensational evening with Buxty prancing around the stage in his sexy new specs to the delight of many BUG virgins. It's lovely watching newbies. They can't quite believe what they're seeing and finally realise how uncomfortable endless laughter can be.

He did a little Popropriation section and by way of explanation & example to BUG virgins, he cited the Gillette jingle and it's use by Mike Shinks whenever his wife Fran doubts his worthiness. It gave me a little nostalgia wobble.
♫ Mike Shinks!  The Best that Fran could Ge-e-et ♫

Adam showed one of Peter Serafinowicz's Hot Chip videos despite the blighter not turning up for the japery. That reminds me, Adam and Peter have contributed their voice skills to the new Nintendo Lego game. While I'm talking about Lego, I have to share a shot of silent film boffin, Mr Hope Lies' wonderful Lego Cinema. He'll also be reporting from BUG at Docfest and BIFF with any luck.

Fortunately, Adam's proper guest, Edgar Wright did turn up and his showing of some Ant-Man test footage caused a little Disney Net Ripple while most of us were in bed. Somebody filmed it from the audience and put it on YouTube but it was swiftly removed. I shudder to think how poor the quality would have been. The sad thing is, it was probably uploaded by a huge fan on Edgar's who didn't understand why it was a bad thing to do. It really makes you wonder......but at least it gave the blogs plenty to witter about for a few seconds.

The only really new sniff of Ant-Man recently has been this from January. Marvel's Ant-Man Facebook page is currently still Stark infested from last October. The release date is slated for November 2015 which is six months after the next Avengers film.

Talk of Ant-Man finally takes proceedings to Joe by association.

There's virtually no public news about Snow Crash or Rust. I guess both are still noodling about with scripts. This is understandable. I mean, Snow Crash is too long to make into a film, apparently.

The hard copy of Sci-Fi mag had this page about Rust but I've yet to read it. Lovely Royden was on the Archaia stand at the ECCC chatting about the various volumes of Rust. There was a little mention about the film from Royden at a Livestream event a while ago too.

If I've missed any other news about either of these films, please let me know.

There have been some Attack the Block screenings lately. Being from the future and altogether topsy-turvey, Melbourne had a Rooftop Cinema screening. In Camberwell, it was free and followed by a Q and A with Leeon Jones. In Hornsey it was only a quid but unfortunately they have a gzillion lumins light that shines directly downwards about a foot in front of the projector beam, rendering the picture that eventually arrives on the screen almost invisible.

Tyler Stout includes Attack the Block in his range of artwork which he sells in limited edition.

If I could justify the price of yet another copy of Attack the Block, I'd go for the Japanese version as it has these little darlings stuffed in the packaging.

Somebody made this amusing bit of art and tagged it Attack the Block.

The school that Attack the Block's John Boyega went to are rightly proud of him. Simon 'Biggz' Howard helped to launch Becoming Brixton in January. Jodie Whittaker is currently giving a beautiful performance in ITV's Monday night series 'Broadchurch' and Luke Treadaway has transferred his heartbreaking portrayal of Christopher in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time to the West End. Nick Frost has finished pick-ups for Cuban Fury and has now taken the lead in Mr Sloane for Big Talk.

The poor cloud hair lady was made to suffer another outing with Joe's ethereal song in January.

Such is the scarcity of Cornballs news, all I can report is that he had fish and chips in Balham on 11th March, unless of course, it was Nicholas Rowe......or that sport ball man.... Anyhoo, it makes a change from dining at Moro.

On 1st February, 6Music spent the day running through a listener-voted top 100 tunes and it warmed my cockles to discover that giggly Jude (an Adam and Joe producer of yesteryear) was listening all the way over in American Land.

During the last couple of weeks I've heard Mark Radcliffe (or was it Stuart) and Lovely Lettuce Laverne struggle with the pronunciation of Wymondham which gives me a good excuse to link a beloved nugget.

Someone tweeted a Bronholme based hoodie fashion statement.

Adam and Joe's 6Music podcast still gets included in the iTunes 'What's Hot' section but their BBC Blog is sadly in line for mothballing*.

On Valentine's Day Adam gave us the gift of song and a couple of 6Music listeners celebrated their Adam and Joe based union.

People are still telling Adam he looks like Mandy Patinkin, Eric Cantona and other Random Bearded Men. When will this madness end? He's cleverly adopted a 'with glasses' look that should fool them for a while.

You know Stephen! right? Of course you do. Well he's done a book you can get for fewp'nce on your Kindling thingling or fill your hands with treespew. Just Reading! Surely Big Talk will option the film rights for this?

Tom Haigh unearthed and upshot some archive footage from a time when Edgar Wright was legitimately small and huggable. They were duly blogged here and here.

Other random things I feel like telling you is that David Byrne's Roundhouse show is selling fast.  Both Basement Jaxx and Goldfrapp at Somerset House sold out ages ago but astonishingly, you can still grab tickets for Richard Hawley which is a dreamy thing to do of a Summer's evening. You can also see Colin 'Black' Vearne at the Bush Hall for not much cash.

Finally, apropos of nothing at all, I'd like to pimp my two favourite t-shirt stores: DBT and Archane.

*The 'more information' link at the Adam and Joe 6Music blog implies that the blog will be around for a while longer. I think it would cause more harm if they removed it.

When do you delete pages from bbc.co.uk?

In general our policy is only to remove pages where the information provided has become so outdated that it may lead to actual harm or damage.

Raising a glass of cheer for the months passed and the year to come

2011 has had more reasons to celebrate than any other in recent Adam and Joe history.

JANUARY:

Even this early in the year, Little White Lies were starting the buzz for Attack the Block by running a competition, the winners of which would feature in their next, March 2011 issue.

Adam returned to the BFI with BUG23 but the big event this month was his Maldives piece in The Guardian's Travel section. Like father, like son.

FEBRUARY:

Ah, the month of Adam's glorious, technical breakdown at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill. This provided bonus hilarity due to an unruly Photoshop munchkin which Adam seemed embarrassed about despite the obvious delight of his audience. Three good things came of this. It was gloriously gigglesome, he touchingly perceived some obligation to perform an amazing free show to everyone who had felt let down and it prompted him to get to grips with Keynote which he uses to such great effect these days.

The following night, Adam presented the Röyksopp BUG Special which spilled over into the Benugo bar until the small hours. I say this with caution and without wishing to devalue any other BUG outing but I enjoyed my pants off at this event. I had to put them through a mangle when I got home.

The team at Attack the Block announced that the film would bow with it's premiere at South By Southwest but that the UK release date would be delayed until May 2011.

MARCH:

The first day of March brought the news that the 6Music Adam and Joe Radio Show would return in April for twelve weeks, which ended up totalling fifteen shows, the glorious creme of which was played out this morning and can be caught on the iPlayer for the next seven days. There will also be two podcasts from it.

The next day, Joe appeared on the live broadcast of Film 2011 talking about Attack the Block and showing a couple of clips for the first time.

Despite getting a little uptight about time, Adam presented BUG24 and played a blinder at The Union Chapel.

Joe took a trip to Texas via some scribbling and leg jiggling time in L.A. setting the fuse wire on the great Attack the Block media machine which had the endorsement it needed to begin firing on all cylinders. The excitement at SXSW fueled the internet within seconds of the house lights going up and kept it's momentum for months to come. There's some waffle from that first night here.

Jon Hamblin, a journalist who freelances for SFX Magazine was kind enough to give me some Attack the Block nuggets that didn't make it to the publication.

APRIL:

The Adam and Joe Radio Show returned to 6Music. They were straight in there with memes like 'Why be Denny Different?', 'Nonsense, nonsense, nonsense' and 'Smarties make me naughty'. It was as though all the clever people on the street had a knowing smiles on their face that would last until early July.

The show trended on Twitter and the pod went straight to number one in the iTunes charts within a couple of hours of casting. Later in the month they were at the top of the iPlayer chart too.

The 6Music blog kicked back into action and they acquired a resident artist in the shape of James Hood. Thomas Dolby tweeted about them. Sally Grossart made special Easter Paper People for them.

Adam performed his Technical Meltdown show at the BFI which I believe was the first outing for his helmet-cam countdown film. Adam joined a team of people for a gig in aid of Sod Cancer and whilst relaxing backstage, he was shown (by David Armand and Justin Edwards) a YouTube nugget that would spark Adam and Joe's most invasive meme since Boggins.

BUG Music Videos launched their YouTube playlist showing clips of recent shows including some of Adam's delicious waffle and of course, some comments.

By turn of good fortune and great kindness I attended two preview screenings of Attack the Block but not before enjoying a wry put-down from Joe himself at the Kapow Comic Con. We also learned that Sony/Screen Gems had snapped up the distribution rights for the film in the States and Canada.

The Guardian carried the first, proper Attack the Block based national press interview with Joe from Eve Wiseman.

During the Kapow panel, Joe revealed that he and Edgar had just submitted their second Ant-man draft to Marvel.

MAY:

Attack the Block was finally released in the UK but kicked off with a few previews including the London premiere on 4th May and post screening Q & A's at The Ritzy and The Prince Charles in London's London.

Still giving rise to me smarting my face with a smack, Joe took the time to answer a some silly questions I posed via the internet.

Joe and co. made appearances at Forbidden Planet and The Apple Store and they were generally all over the radio and tv media. Joe Cornish even trended on Twitter at one point. The film was top of the new entries in the weekend Box Office charts and Attack the Block related waffle dominated the podcast chart.

Adam took BUG to Manchester and then returned to the BFI for BUG25. He featured on the radio in an episode of Matt Lucas's "And the Winner Is" which aired on 7th May (no longer available).

The BBC Radio4 Archers Blog included the latest clip from the 6Music show.

Posters and a trailer appeared for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn this month. This is the film for which Joe Cornish & Edgar Wright took over the writing duties when Steven Moffat's Doctor Who workload made him unable to continue.

JUNE:

Glastonbury came around again and the culmination of twelve weeks hard brand identity work was presented in the final three shows, broadcast live from the festival. The time went so quickly and full of so many memorable delights, the most enduring of which seems to be the Taffin cries. There was an exclusive, local Black Squadron gathering which produced all these photographs.

Adam presented a Moby BUG Special at the BFI where we had our first glimpse of his now famous (thanks to Never Mind the Buzzcocks) Moby guessing game. He also did a show at The Idler, joined the lineup at The Drill Hall and helped the National Autistic Society by manning a stand at their rain drenched Carter's Steam Fair event. Finally, he returned to his country pile for BUG Norwich 07.

JULY:

Joe was celebrated with 41 other young creative poppets at an event attended by Willie and Katie in L.A. under the umbrella of "BAFTA Brits to Watch".

Attack the Block was screened in L.A. with Joe and John Boyega (Moses) joining Edgar Wright to present and chat about it. Then they hopped around various cities with their US Press tour, giving print, radio and tv interviews all the way as the film began it's slow release in the States that month.

They went down to the San Diego Comic Con for a panel.

Film4's wonderful Summer Screen event included Attack the Block this year. It was preceded by David Cox in conversation with Joe Cornish in one of the awkwardly seated rooms at Somerset House. Before the film went on screen, Joe hauled as many of the cast as possible onto the stage to take their bows.

Adam took his BUG Special show to Latitude, also making some unscheduled appearances in other areas of the festival. He also honoured his promise from last year's sickly period by bringing BUG to the Bristol Comedy Garden and then back to London for BUG26 shows.

The first series of Silent Library aired this month, with Adam giving the commentary. It's a bit of silly nonsense but Adam made it fun to watch.

Joe and Edgar submitted their third Ant-man draft script to Marvel complete with some artistic impressions.

AUGUST:

Joe took Attack the Block to Locarno and Berlin (joined by Nick Frost) and it opened in more US cities.

Empire's Big Screen weekend included a special cast attended screening of Attack the Block with Joe & co chatting on stage afterwards. They were also looping the Tintin trailer in the concession area.

Adam did a five night run of BUGs at the Edinburgh Festival. These shows were completely sold out! He popped up at an afternoon Comedy Club For Kids event (appropriately at the Bongo Club) and on the last day he joined lovely Richard Herring for his daily live podcast while he was up there.

Made In Me launched their audio app featuring Adam Buxton reading bedtime stories.

Jude Adam Mason, the lovely, long-suffering, giggly producer of early Adam and Joe radio shows had her beautiful little baby Milly this month.

BUG Music Videos made a Summer Summary.

SEPTEMBER:

Adam kept the BUG train rolling with specials in The Queen Elizabeth Hall (which Joe attended), King's Place and the Greenwich Comedy Festival. The new BFI BUG27 shows were at the end of the month.

Attack the Block was released on DVD, Blu-ray and through various on-line portals in the UK this month, starting with an exclusive rental at Blockbuster. The hard copies had a variety of special packages and some wonderful extra features. We've recently learned that Germany will introduce a steel case version in February 2012.

The film continued to open in more US cities this month.

Get Darker launched a DJ competition to tie in with the film's soundtrack.

OCTOBER:

The Adam and Joe 6Music Radio Show won a BTDMA!

Adam hosted the most lauded episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks of the entire series. Surely, the only thing stopping him from becoming a more permanent host is the chance of making his own BUG style tv show. Please note that the Best Of aired this week includes one tiny clip not previously shown.

Joe had a wicked and wet time in Sitges where Attack the Block collected four awards! He joined Luke Treadaway at MoMA for a presentation of Attack the Block and then they both went on to meet John Boyega at the New York Comic Con for a streamed interview with Marvel, a roundtable and a panel at the weekend. What is it with me and film conventions? I have skill for self-embarrassment.

Adam presented BUG Specials in Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool and BUG Norwich 8.

Tintin was premiered in London and Joe joined the press junket with Edgar Wright and Steven Moffat. He also did a little Attack the Block chitty chat with Edith Bowman for BAFTA voters.

Joe talked to eager delegates at the London Screenwriters Festival.

Adam finally shared this wonderful home video with us.

NOVEMBER:

Adam had BUG Specials in Hull, Cardiff and the Cheltenham Festival and joined Jon Holmes and Olly Mann for a radio event in Salford. In a slight change of format, he introduced Jon Spiro's excellent Anyone Can Play Guitar followed by wonderful interviews with some of the contributors. It's a crying shame this film doesn't have a big distribution deal. Jon gives Martin Scorcese a run for his money.....well, a speed walk at least.

BUG28 was at the BFI this month and there was a OneDotZero BUG special featuring Björk. Adam also did a small show at this Promax event and presented the UK Music Video Awards again this year, which included another gong given to Attack the Block's Tom Townend for his work with Adele.

All of these were gigs eclipsed by the staggering Radiohead BUG Special at the end of the month. This is an enormous auditorium and not only did he (and maybe Radiohead) fill it but he held the audience in the palm of his hand and made it feel as intimate as a small club. If I have any right to such a thing, I felt so proud of him. He is a truly accomplished performer with a uniquely personable manner that is a rare and precious commodity.

DECEMBER:

Adam gave us this:

Joe gave us zip.
Nothing.
He collapsed in an exhausted, sexy tangle on the floor.

Broadcasting House, however saw fit to give him something. A spurtle, no less.

Adam and Joe must be busy with sutin because they couldn't give us a Christmas show.

Adam might be working hard to get his Sydney show together and maybe he is closer to having something for the tv.

Joe has said he's got all his research done for writing his next film but he may have changed his mind. He has always retained that prerogative, the raving ponce.

2011/12

So there it is.

Adam Buxton presented a record breaking episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks and played to what was probably his biggest audience in the Odeon Leicester Square for the Radiohead BUG Special.

Joe Cornish released his writing and directorial debut film to both critical and audience acclaim worldwide and enjoyed considerable recognition for his part in the writing of the Tintin script.

You can catch The Best of Adam and Joe's Radio Show 2011 here for 7 days and check for any podcasts you might be missing.

Adam is taking BUG to Sydney in January, then returning to the BFI and to the Leicester Comedy Festival in February.

He continues to regale us with tales of his Country Man plus sporadic, joyous bursts on his YouTube Channel and blog.

Joe is sitting at home in his wolf pants watching daytime telly, fiddling with his spurtle and vetting all the awards as they roll in.

Attack the Block has garnered the following recognition thus far:

South by Southwest Audience Award - won
Los Angeles Film Festival Audience Award - won
Miskolc International Film Festival, Hungary - won
Lund International Fantastic Film Festival, Sweden - won
Montreal Fantasia International Film Festival 2011 - won

Austin Film Critics Association nominated x 5 - won x 2

....and the best accolade of all, with something akin to a deadline-free, peoples' award extending into perpetuity, this film has inspired incredible fan art and is currently figuring in many bloggers' top ten films of the year.

For my part, if they've been busy, then to a lesser degree, so have I.
If they've been publicly happy then I've been happy too.
As always, this blog carries the disclaimer that I mean no harm with my waffle. If it's ever misconstrued it's because I'm an idiothole and cannot adequately express myself.
I did man up enough to splutter a couple of words to both Adam and to Joe in person this year but I was so much in awe that I could hardly look them in the eye which probably resulted in them thinking any of the nonsense I clumsily spluttered was not truthful. My mouth dried, my tongue swelled and I failed introduce myself in this guise. Perhaps that implies I should step back a little in 2012.

This is my attempt at pre-cogging these silly men.

Bit too tootie to pad this out.....

I'll just dump some bits on you tonight because my fingers aren't choreographing quite as Busby Berkeley would have preferred right now.

The Leicester Comedy Festival has been all aTwitter with Buckles love and Simon Button is now proudly sporting this joyous picture on his home page.

An innocent tweet earlier in the week provoked several lovely geeky sites into editorial meltdown with the news that the hithero dozily dreaming Ant-Man project was clearly just taking a lot of bunched-up power-naps. It's thrown back it's bleary head, downed a triple Espresso, stretched all three pairs of legs and scuttled along the formica worktop to the steamy kitchen of production. (I need to stop right now, don't I?)

Keeping with the Wright/Cornish news, there have been further updates on the IMDB page for Attack the Block, the most significant of which was some concrete casting news. Luke Treadaway will play "Brewis". I could bore you all with my Treadaway waffle for ages of pages but suffice it to say he's been a Philip Ridley poppet on stage and also appearing in the long awaited (by me) Heartless due for release in May by which time we can only hope that ATB principal photography will be in the can and he can dance around the junket circuit with candid waffle to delight us all. He was last seen by my eyes with all manner of gloopy stuff dribbling over his poorly clad body with his twinster at the Royal Court - a Mark Ravenhill play. This boy has made some enviably cool choices in his career so far and that doesn't look like it will stop anytime soon. We won't mention The Innocence Project (much). I wouldn't say it's 'The Persuasionists' of his cv but it was one of those 'good performances, clunky writing' pieces. Other additions to the IMDB imply that the Art Department are getting locked into position too.

I'm rather frustrated that the gaffer has been listed but we don't yet know who the Director of Photography will be. Julian White worked on Enda Walsh's "Chatroom" (the cast of which included the 11th Doctor when I saw it on stage) which I believe was part of the deal in the Film4 package that included Attack the Block and has been rolling out over the last 18 months. The DoP would have chosen his gaffer rather than had one imposed upon him so someone's got the job and has probably been prepping with Joe for weeks now. We just don't know who that is. I know I'm sounding stupidly geeky here but there is so much serious kudos attached to this film. I have a funny feeling that the industry types must be creaming themselves to get on board. If Mr Haughty weren't consumed with trembling, girly apprehension, he'd have a moment to burst with pride.

Studio Canal are doing their duties to the film at the EFM part of the Berlinale . I'm amused to see Joe's name in a sentence with Rowan Joffe and Percy Adlon.

Flippin' heck, I've bored myself senseless.

Remember that lovely little short Adam appeared in a couple of years ago? It's being subjected to a public vote in the British Animation Festival and can be seen around the country this month. Check here for details near you. You need to look for Prog Three but frankly, they'll all be wickles. There are stills to whet your appetite and here is a that tiny clip from YouTube.

BUG 18 tickets went on sale to the public on Tuesday and sold out a couple of days later. At the risk of sounding like a broken mp3 player, in my experience there are always tickets on the day if you don't have to make too many hard and fast plans and can take a risk on it. Smite me for saying it but the 'director's cut' is never usually as good value as the first show but it's better than no show at all.

There was a bit of grammar brickbatting over on the 6Music Blog with a suggestion for a t-shirt to wear whilst listening to podcasts in public areas. James also took us down memory lane with a bit of Stephen streetware at the blog.

Edgar Wright is hosting a late night of Death Wish III next week and there's a Spaced finger gunfight flashmob planned in a few weeks' time. Scott Pilgrim news also trickles through Edgar's Blog.

Finally and with deep respect to Andrew Collins and Richard Herring, I'm going to post my daily AdamAndJoeByte earlier or later than usual tomorrow because I was chastised for appearing to poke them during their broadcast last week. I don't have enough twollowers for that to really make one jot of difference to anybody but if it peeved Andrew, that's one peeved person too many and I am bemused but sorry.
