August to November 2015

Let's start the month with a bit of new Attack the Block artwork

And then there is this mash-up


Then there was this poster and brief review from the Green Man Festival (the one in the Brecon Beacons).


Adam played Brighton.


Radio Times did a piece on adverts before people were famous and somehow, on that pretext, they decided to shoe-horn Adam's video of him larking around with Joe and Louis. Imagine?

I was thrilled to attend BUG 48 tonight because Jonathan from Everything Everthing was the guest. That's double win, for the record.


Then he was up to Manchester for a birthday gig.


This was pleasing




Messy Goes to Okido aired for the first time on 7th September.

And the following week, it happened. The imbalance on the planet shifted a little way back into place as Adam launched Series One of his own podcast, starting with Louis and Baaadad. Wired got in quick with an interview.

As you can imagine, it shunted it's way to the top of the podcharts quicker than you can say "bread rolls"


As the weeks rolled on, the wonderful Sally Grosart persisted in illustrating each pod. Adam has put most of them on his blog but just in case, they're gathered here.

Toward the end of the month, Adam hosted the AV Awards.



And Joe went to a BFI event in Manchester to discuss his film from the olden tymes.


This sort of thimg amuses me(follow conversation).



I don't know if you knew this already but John Boyega, who was Moses in Joe's Attack the Block, has been cast in the latest sci-fi sensation. He talks about it here.

Adam will do anything for a free dinner but hosting catering awards was more than he could have hoped for.

I don't even know what Pro Max UK is and I'm certainly not going to waste any internet time looking it up.



The original Saltyman made a film for Adam's intro jingle.



Scroobious Pip invited Adam into his podcast shed and while he was about it, they did a switcheroo in the interviewer/interviewee department.


The top secret film that Garth Jennings teased in Adam's podcast was made public.

Adam took two BUG Specials to Barcelona - Radiohead and Bowie.

Then he raced back to London for the Beatles BUG Special.



November 3rd also brought the news that Channel4 have commissioned a full series of the Graham Linehan & Adam Buxton comedy "The Cloud" on the strength of the unaired pilot they did. More deets here.

This tickled me,


Film4 showed Attack the Block in it's rightful slot - late on bonfire night.

No peace for the delightful. Adam hosted the UK MVAs on bonfire night.


and a couple of days later, he was at the Union Chapel.



....then another charity gig at KOKO


Miranda Sawyer has been holding the flag high for Adam and Joe over the years and is firmly behind Adam's podcast. You can listen to In Pod We Trust here.

On the same weekend, Gemma Cairney featured an old "Best of Adam And Joe" sequence on this show.

Then the month of November ended with the sad passing of Nigel Buxton. The news didn't break until a couple of weeks after the fact but the fascinating obituary is here.
Nigel made blog entries from time to time, which you can read here.  He had an incredible life and my heartfelt pained facial expression goes out to Adam and his family.

January 15

Kicked off the month with this

and at last a little more news about Joe's Section 6


As Black Squadron shifted themselves into New Year cinemas, they were delighted by the "Stephen!" "um coming" to be heard during The Theory of Everything.

The net went a bit sily when they learned this

Ultraculture's Charlie Lyne took his film, Beyond Clueless on the road and his Prince Charles Cinema Q & A was conducted by Adam.

The episode of Pappy's Flatshare Slamdown that Adam recorded last year, went up this month.


...and then suddenly, out of the blue, we heard that Adam was coming back to BUG!

...and BVE announced that Adam was going to interview Richard Ayoade as a keynote event at this year's show.

Joe was mentioned in this piece about Mark Kermode.

Adam was announced on a spoof festival line-up


The month finished with Adam appearing in the lineup at The Bloomsbury Theatre for Laugh Till it Hurts in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.


Friend of the Adam and Joe Show, Garth Jennings, talked to Lauren Laverne.

We were all thinking this, right?

Crossing the Teas and Dotting the Eyes

Make yourself a brew and pass your peepers over these few bits that I didn't want to wedge into my last missive.

Since my award wining post, Ken Korda has visited the Adam And Joe blog to say a little something about Adam's success.



The ITV2 coverage barely included any of the acceptance speeches. You can see the sum total of what we got here but as Sam Clements pointed out, that is begging to be turned into a gif so I done it.
Gallifrey's own Vidjam had a particularly demented way of viewing it.


Our happy, beardy winner kindly gave a special BUG presentation during a students day at the BFI last week. Is there no end to this man's tender generosity? Perhaps Joe managed to syphon some of the young people off afterwards to test his film on them. Time to dust off my pig-tails wig and dental restrainers.

One of the films Adam has been showing at his gigs lately went up on YouTube a couple of days after my last main post so I'll pop it in here now.



With any luck, by the end of the week we will have the full version of Chris Bowles' latest incredible animation, bringing the Glastonbury football commentaries to life. This is just a teaser...

Friends of.....

Sontum of Qualace's own Ben Mercer got a mention in Music Week News a few days ago.

After his exhausting schedule for Scott Pilgrim, Edgar took a little rest but he's been back with blog entries from time to time and the twitter seems to be firing up to speed again.

Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith have been lending their lovely weight to A Town Called Panic and that gives me an opportunity to plug the Picturehouse's own, sweet podcast. Frankly, subscribing is the best way to deal with these people. You'll find their jingles a little confusing when familiar strains don't manifest into the well loved Song Wars track you were pre-conditioned to expect.
If you're in Greenwich or Brixton, do listen to the details of the competition towards the end for some lovely goodies.
The really wonderful news included in this podcast is that Hammer And Tongs are releasing a video of all their promo work with behind the scenes stuff. It's coming out in November and it sounds as though it will be double plus good.

Adam Buxton IS The Persuasionist.

Tomorrow night brings episode one of The Persuasionists on BBC2 at 10pm. A few of the papers have run short pieces. The Mail, The Californa Chronicle (don't ask me!) but the jewel in the promotional crown must be this interview with Adam from Saturday's Times.

The BBC got their microsite up and running a few days ago where you can even find a clip from the first episode. I'm not sure if I've linked this before but for some time now, there has been a fan site for the show.

There was a lot of Twitter chatter last week when Jonathan Ross announced that he was not going to renew his contract in July.
The names of Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish, both individually and as a duo, lit up the search engines with their pining fans trying to be the first to suggest how amply they could fill the various poncy boots that Mr Ross would leave littered around the place. I raked over some old press clips and was amused by Joe's thoughts on Radio2 at the end of this article. I'm not sure he would feel exactly the same today but what do I know?

In other Adam Buxton news, the BBC Comedy Blog continued to post Adam's Alone In The Shed segments with deliciously silly notes from the beardy one himself. Even if you watched this when it was on telly, take a moment to read what Adam has to say as it's typically funny stuff. If you're struggling to watch these clips because you're a member of Exotic Squadron, the BBC have also popped them into their YouTube channel which is very thoughtful of them.

On Friday, we had a welcome surprise from James at the 6Music Blog with the news that Commander Cornballs would rescue Black Squadron from their disparate wanderings with a command during Danny Wallace's Saturday sitting-in-for show. The fruits of the Squadron's work were swiftly posted by Lovely Lucy. Remember, you can still submit photos until next Saturday, 16th January.

In the absence of any real news from Joe, I'm going to throw a curve ball and link to a couple of pages at Edgar Wright's blog.

A clever fellow called Joel Vallie has grabbed all of Edgar's photo-a-day snaps from 2009, warmed them in his hands like so much plasticine and fashioned a beautiful video from them. If you're paying attention, you'll see Joe's happy face more than once. While we're in the Wright place, he's put his 30 Tracks of 2009 together complete with Spotify playlist.

Not sure if I've linked this before but I can't stop watching this made-on-a-shoestring delight from Hammer and Tongs (video removed - search for it Cousins by Vampire Weekend)If you are foolish enough to miss The Persuasionists tomorrow, many regions are repeating it at the weekend, The microsite will give details for where you are. You might feel moved to join and post your thoughts at this fan forum. I'm sure I've missed something but I'll come back for a fiddle later on.
