Shed Month

In bygone days, I would have made a lovely recap of the entire year in Adam and Joe World but news is thin on the ground and you all know how to use blogs by now, don't you?  Just check the monthly updates if you think you might have missed something.

As a precursor to Sky Arts airing Adam Buxton's Shed of Christmas, they started to repeat BUG this month.

Adam did some live gigs this month too. A tiny one at The Dot, a bigger one at the Union and then he went to Uckfield, of all places, for a show of his own one night and then guesting for David Earl.

And then it was upon us.....Adam's Shed of Christmas!

Shaun W Keaveny talked to Adam down the phone line which you can listen to here and then we all snuggled around the telly, like it was a manger.

On the first air-night the skies were full of tweets, the general consensus of which was that everyone felt Christmassy now.

For the people without the Sky Arts 1 channel, some clips popped up over the next couple of days. The director of Christmas in the Countryside, for instance, put this on his Vimeo nubb.

'Christmas in the Countryside' - Adam Buxton (Director's Cut) from Thomas Ormonde on Vimeo.

Some kindly reprobate uploaded this to his YT channel

and Adam Buxton, Lord of the Manger put this magical piece in the web bucket and it went completely and incurably viral. LOOK at those viewing figures!

Attack the Block screened during the BFI's Science Fiction season and Joe was going to do a Q & A  earlier in the month but he had to cancel due to pressure of work. As if to prove that he actually could be bothered get out of his pyjamas, Edgar tweeted this little Christmas gift.

....and the BFI posted this to show there were no hard feelings.

Someone mused that Lance Armstrong's son looked a little like Longshanks.

While I'm in a Joe mood, I'm going to finish with this because it tickled me.

Finally, I tweeted this and for some reason, it got more faves and RT than I've had in many a long month.

There you go. Fingers crossed that 2015 will be rammed with lovely bits.

Pieces of April

It would seem Adam started the month with this.

Followed by two engagements the next day.

Sarah's interview is here.

and recording an episode of The Horne Section, for which you can find more details in May.

Later in the month and ahead of his West End shows, Adam spoke to Shaun Keaveny. I made a special page.

Time Out have several pictures of Adam with sushi.

Ooow- Adam Buxton and Tim Key in the same pictures....

At the last minute, Adam also joined Claudia O'Doherty for her Friday show after his final Kernel Panic at the Duchess Theatre.

The New Cross and Deptford Festival showed Attack the Block and I believe it was in some way powered by bicycles.

The month sadly ended with this.

...which was the only mention of Joe all month.

Adam Buxton's BUG Series One Revisited

After a wonderfully successful, eight week run on Sky Atlantic HD Adam Buxton's BUG's first series* has finally ended and to sate any withdrawal sickness, I thought I'd do a little recappitation.

Episode One kicked of with the delightful intro song featuring a lovely monkey as Adam implored us to "stop looking and the monkey as it's time to start the show".

We saw the first of the familiarly fun folders from his desktop suitcase. He showed us the visual mnemonics from his travels to Los Angeles and Australia.

Cool Comment Guy popped up for the first time and we were told to "stop observing small kids eyes". Wine Prone Cowboy prompted Adam to do a lovely, cod, royalty-free reworking of Rhinestone Cowboy in front of his audience but the abiding meme memory from this episode will be the touching "my CONDOLENC".

Garth Jennings kicked off a weekly succession of bespoke BUG videos with his explosive film featuring Adam miming to Guitar Wolf's version of Summertime Blues. There was a cameo from Baaad Dad in there too and Sky made a little extra bit with Garth.

Episode Two suggested that Pluto and Manthea were watching the show. The suitcase that week showed us his Shittier Beatles folder with it's MPoo3 suggestions.

ApplePieIsGoodToEat had a special, cheeky pop up animation for his comment "Oh and dear yellow one, I feel the need to tell you your PANTS are spicy".

MISSGOSH got her famous "I hope this comment is being read out by Adam Buxton" dream realised, and on the telly this time.

We witnessed the misuse of Adam's "Skip this ad now > > >" gag but probably the most memorable Youtube interlude was Gil McRipley's Rifle Burs - "SWAG".

David Wilson gorgeously filthy video for Adam's Sushi Song aired that week and there's a behind-the-scenes film to go with this too.

We learned that Mr Gyllenhaal can provoke a comment of "Meh, with a side order of pfft" but more often some pork-based stabbing is the plat-du-jour. This is also the video for which we saw Adam's elaborate, visual stingy response to Etienne Marvelo's wildly absurd and pretentious comment.

At the start of Episode Three, Adam's folder revealed a photo of his local pub, complete with it's funny spelling.

We met the fella who wants to "marry Grimes. Marry her hard" and learned that Thom Yorke has turrets and looks like Jodie Foster. We also had the confusingly posed "Original? no! Devlhish! ? Maybe! A pleasure for ones eara? Surelly".

Instead of a bespoke BUG video, this week Adam dressed up in heels, gloves and tight black leggins to give us his literal rendition of Pull Up to the Bumper which I was disturbed to see live at the recording of the pilot show. I've not seen a man look so utterly comfortable in heels that high since Terence Stamp strutted the outback.

The suitcase for Episode Four revealed a short video featuring his daughter, Hope in an ad to promote holidays.

This was followed by the joyously depressing video for The Counting Song, directed by Cyriak with illustrations from Sarah Brown.

We were introduced to someone who knows native people, learned a new insult - "dickehad" and the emoticon representing Owen Wilson :~) followed by a disgruntled appearance from Jareth.

We learned that although a "chopped-up Amen break at 170bpm laid over square bass is prototypical D&B/Jungle" it can be mistaken -  "it's breakcore, you fucknose", and we enjoy an appearance from the shouting poet, MrMrDSWoods including his sublime "TAKE THAT TO THE BANK YOU MUFFIN FACTORY".

Episode Five was the one which brought us "Thumbwhore", "Wot is BUK?" and "knock on the front door and ask for The Fighter".

We had brief appearance from Cool Comment Guy and a visual jingle for Commentary Digest.

Dougal Wilson's vision for Adam's classic "Poo Poo Party Pom Pom" was aired in this episode too and Sky have an enchanting Behind-the-Scenes film to go with.

Episode Six is the one with the intro song that sounds a bit like Louise's blissful Star Trek song. It had the Filthy Fridges folder, a pop-upset from Jareth, a comment that simply read "Bord?" and also the "Jesus Christ, I think I got a depression".

Dragon Metal Man popped up and we saw the Layzell Brothers animated wonder for Tiny Tim's "Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight" song from the past.

Episode Seven was the one where we were advised to "calm your tits". Adam showed us the contents of his "Shit Jennifer Aniston Films" folder and revealed that the folder for "Garage Band Jingles That I Haven't Used" was empty.

The video was David Freymond's imagining of Coming Back from Holiday Blues.

Adam made a fragrantly urban opening ditty for Episode Eight and unpacked his 'Previously Unseen Bobbles" folder showing what Bob Dylan's was actually typing while Joan Baez was strumming and warbling in the background.

Adam brought Radiohead's No Surprises video up to the comment reading plate and at the risk of peeving lovely Buxty by linking something with a tiny bit of a Joeness, one of the best runner-ups for the Adam and Joe Video Wars competition was this wonderful likeness of that same video.

Adam directed the final video of the series. The song, Amazing Music Video, is new. The video is everso amusing featuring Baaadad and Sif Agustsdottir with her top off, maybe.

Finally, don't forget you can go behind the scenes with Adam and catch various audio interviews with Empire Magazine, Shaun Keaveny and Matt Edmondson. Adam's YouTube channel has hours of delicious nuggets.

Once you've worked your way through that lot, several times, you'll have to take an Ad(am) break but let's hope it's not a long one.

* Any reference to 'series one' is based on love, optimism and belief in the power of positive thinking rather than any knowledge of a recommission.

Not a roundup of 2010 at all

The most important thing about this festive season is that Adam And Joe gathered in their festive shack to record a show to air on the morning of Christmas Day.

If you didn't catch the trail on 6Music yet, James has put it here. If you can't listen live, please join Twitsquadron on Sunday evening for an iPlayer gathering.

One could argue that it's been too long since I last updated this blog. All manner of nonsense has been going on but in this age of instant gratification (for those of us lucky enough) it seems redundant to repeat what I've already tweeted mere seconds after it happened.

I'd saved more than fifty links since my last post but happily, King Of Blogs and Count of Buckules made a lovely rounding-up sort of thingumy the other day as he battled with illness, saving me from going over all the really useful points. You're much better off reading that than this.

Well, if you must...........Sam shared a couple of pictures and a roundup of how the day went when he joined Adam and Graham Linehan for a bit of supporting artiste work on their pilot which apparently won't be aired.

Si Hawkins at the UK Comedy Blog persuaded Adam to answer a few questions around the time of the Song Wars Volume 2 release. Drowned in Sound had a piece here as did Culture Deluxe here.

You may like to bookmark this page on the fansite forum which aims to bring gig news as soon as it's made public. BUG 23 has a few seats left now but more will become available on the day(s). As you'll have read in his own blog, Adam had to cancel a couple of dates recently but both the Bristol and Kilburn venues have implied the shows will be rescheduled. The Tabernacle still have a show in February and Adam will return to the Leicester Comedy Festival again this year.

BUG 22 has been and gone and it happily coincided with the release of the Hammer and Tongs DVD so Garth & Nick came along for some viddy-chat. The beautiful Roo caught a lovely snap of them all on the stage.
I've made a couple of attempts to recreate something of the fun of a BUG night on here before but thanks to goodly enhancements to YouTube, the BUGmeisters themselves have been able to create this wonderous thing. PLEASE click on all the links, subscribe to it, favourite it and share it. It's a total joy and if they think it's a success, they'll do more of them. They really need to know they're not wasting their efforts so please take some time with this. If you start with the intro, the rest of the programme should follow on automatically.

Adam made a Celebrity Playlist for iTunes the other week. Think of it as his mixtape gift to you....that you have to pay for.

This may be a bit of stuff and nonsense but just in case it has any substance to it, I'll link it. This call for advertisers to buy space implies that the Weekend Travel section of The Guardian may cover Mr & Mrs Buxton renewing their wedding vows next month. Not sure when that might have actually happened, of course but I've been wearing a hat and shedding a tear every day since I read about it.

My other little blog has been giving daily links to the 6Music midnight broadcasts of the 12 Podcasts of Christmas shows on the iPlayer and their plundered podcast downloads so I hope you found them.
The Best of Adam's Big Mixtape Series One (I love the implications of typing that) are repeating from 26th December 2010 and I think the podcasts will plop into our boxes again. There are loads of Best Of Adam and Joe shows on 3rd January 2011.

The Guardian TV and Radio Blog takes any excuse to mention Adam and Joe. They go for it time and time and time again and again but this entry eloquently speaks for us all .

The Guardian Media Monkey is just as enthusiastic and Adam shared this photo with the Lifestyle section, showing Adam and Joe with Uncle Dave and Louis Theroux. I presume Adam's Mummy was doing some exotic dancing which distracted Louis when this was taken.

The Independent gave them a shout out today as well.

Attack The Block continues to be mentioned here are there. Britfilms have a proper page allocated now, as does Film Dates.

Jodie Whittaker was among an incredible cast for an episode of Jimmy McGovern's Accused and she gave an interview here.

Lots of bloggers and tweeters got excited when this still was made available for digital use, making a big deal of it finally being released even though it's the still Empire used in it's hard copy as far back as September.

For my part, I've given my Paper People Joe a little festive hoodie to wear on the tree.

Anyone who was lucky enough to attend the Ultra Culture Cinema Christmas Party would have walked away with a handy, pocket sized copy of Mr Lyne's review of 2010. I feverishly thumbed through the pages to check for a repeat of last year's inclusions and was rewarded with this piece from Joe. I can't remember if I put last year's page on here.....or indeed if it plopped onto the Ultra Culture website at some point ....don't think it did.

A lovely chappy called Mathew Cropper took these screenshots from the Adam and Joe Show to share with us.

Both Joe and Adam have had a crack at dining with satan's little helpers by doing voice-overs for GAME this festive season. I won't state the obvious about them both doing this, Joe first then Adam...

Chrivia:

Play the 6 Music Christmas Quiz!

This tweet from C3PO made me smile.

A bit of Popper delight.

Ultra Culture's Best of 2010.
Edgar Wright's chitty chat about films of this year and beyond.
The Incredible Suit's best attempt at trying to find merit in ten films this year (he wasn't very thralled with twenty ten)
Andrew Collins' Films of 2010, his fave LPs and his ten best other things.
What is it about boys and lists?

Shaun Keaveny's book get cheaper and cheaper as it sores up the Amazon charts.

Untitled Blog Entry - words fail me

What this lacks in snappy subject title, it makes up for in seemingly unending waffle.
The BFI made a ten minute edit of last month's conversation between Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright which you can view at that link. I'm not clever enough to work out if there's some way to embed the lovely thing but don't think I haven't tried all kinds of code in an effort to do so.

The BBC however, have an entirely different attitude, enabling me to plonk this piece from today's Shaun Keaveny show right here at the cliff face.

Leave a comment about this on the 6Music blog, why don't you?

To keep the BUG momentum going, why not poke around these little portions of fun.

Check out Adam's own blog entry if you've slipped behind with his live appearance diary.

I predict that if he doesn't show this little beauty at the Norwich or Greenwich BUGs Adam will surely have it scheduled for the BFI BUGs, won't he? Best viewed in Chrome, in case you hadn't worked that out.

I'm fed up with this thing showing up in my tv alerts but I still know nothing about the ep that includes Adam. I presume it's Pavel but if anyone with Comedy Central could check it out for me on 17th September at 01:25 AM, I would be grateful.

There's a bit of noodle about the effects house who are taking care of Joe's Attack the Block here and something about the location here.

The latest hard copy issue of Empire has a couple of ATB pictures and some waffle from Joe. I'd hate to stop anyone from buying the glorious thing so I won't scan it until next month (if at all) but The Playlist have included some of the words. They may have included all the words for all I know but I am resolutely trying not to read anything. That's probably how I came to miss evidence of Joe realising a dream by including a real Loose Woman in his cast list.

Adam recorded a voice-over back in May. I'm a patient kind of person and have been thus rewarded.

You can follow the awesome animator here.
Apparently, Adam has also made a contribution to It's Nice That in issue 4.
I want to put a comma after "nice" or some dots or a forward arrow after "that". That comment wouldn't be quite so annoying were my own grammar and spelling slightly less than appalling.

BBC Radio 7 decided to repeat Adam's Famous Guy play from April 2006 the other day. It's still on iPlayer and I would encourage you to listen there, just to keep the figures totting along.
Of course, it's always available on Adam's website blog area. If you want to read my waffle about the picture they're still using, you'd need to go to that silly, daily thing I do.

If you can be bothered to register here, you should vote for 6Music.

Last month was all about Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

The day after my last post, the lovely little thing premiered and Joe was the guest of honour. He wasn't. He was just there in his retro velvet jacket.

You can read more about that here and scroll down to a picture of Joe clearly responding to the hails from Bleeding Cool's own Brendon Connelly.

This little lady has a report and a couple of snaps from the BFI event with more details here and new #Twitsquadron member, John Sharp kindly shared a snap taken with Cornballs on the night.

Despite what seemed like endless opportunities (perhaps two) to catch the film in preview I was steadfast in my resolve to take my virgin viewing in the company of a right pair of Charlies. I should warn you that the young man chairing the video on that page is health-warningly cute. His cheeks must be sore from being pinched........or licked.........something.

The blogging world and his wife (quite literally, it would seem in some cases) were at the Ultra Culture Cinema Event Number Four and despite the ICA screen being too small for an epic like this, especially if you arrived as late as I did, I still reckon it was the most fun of all the specials out there. I understand that some attendees of more precocious screenings had to make do with cheese of all things, at their event.

A weary Edgar scooted over from his DVD Extras edit afterwards but we'd scarcely had time to get comfortable when we were poleaxed by some optimum pre-show audience participation.

Before I leave this Pilgrim hoopla I want to say two things.
1. Scott Pilgrim vs The World is even better on second viewing and
2. Ultra Culture Cinema is something everyone needs to experience at least once in their life. Any longterm Adam and Joe fan will know that this young man has serious A&J credentials even though he was just discovering solids when they were first whittling away down in Brixton. Register for email alerts and tell the little blighter I sent you. I'm not serious with that. Would that his mailing list form had such a facility.

With all the Edgar talk buzzing around the net, this old piece about Ant Man popped into the feeds somehow.

Electric Proms 'Stupid Question Time' question poser, Kimika was playing with Twitsquadron and Avatwee last week. It's always interesting to discover how some people view you, isn't it?

While listening to some old XFM wibbles the other day I was reminded of this glorious album available from Honest Jon's.

If you live in London or can spare any time down here next month you could do yourself an enormous favour by catching something at the London Film Festival. That's all I'm saying on the subject. I'd sing like a bird if I had any kind of press pass or something.

Can we do something to put this place out of business? I am so fed up with their tweets showing up in my Deck.

Going even farther (further?) off-topic, you need to click this just once in your life and then swish your mouse southwards.

Finally, some of my favourite bloggers contributed to this piece for Little White Lies. A couple of them have even quoted me in their time.

Just While I remember these bits....

Joe looks like he dyed his hair for this ident from the olden times. Even as long ago as this, Adam looks sweet and Joe does his aloof thing.

Fellow blogger, though please don't imagine I consider myself approaching the same class as him, The Incredible Suit is one year old today - or his blog is. He took time away from the celebratory champagne drenched brunch to bring us a wonderfully insightful exchange he had with Joe Cornish recently.

My blog was a year old a few days ago but it went unnoticed except for a few people who couldn't quite believe how long they'd bothered to endure it.

Apropos of nothing at all, this website did a piece about Attack The Block with two almost identical pieces of artwork. Can't be arsed to pump this through Babel-fish. If there are any great revelations, I'll put it down to spoiler avoidance.

Will Clarke is leaving Optimum next year so he won't be quite as well placed to bask in the glory of the drug addled months celebrating Joe's film's successful win in the race to become the first feature projected on the Moon in a continuous loop to better serve the desperate needs of the international film-going public. IF they ever sort out the crater compensating software, that is.

You can get a wonderful selection of short films on this DVD including "Little Face" starring Adam Buxton.

Bexley Times reports on the Greenwich Comedy Festival.

A couple of days after that, Adam will be back at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill and I presume BUG 21 will be around that time too.

Adam's final Big Mixtape with Ed O'Brien changed tides in the oceans of Planet Twitter and bless him, he made it into the Rolling Stone.

It was a glorious show to finish on and can be heard for a few days longer here. After that you'll find it around and about the area. Grab the podcast while you can.

-biddle-biddle-biddle-biddle-biddle-biddle-biddle-biddle-biddle-

Edgar Wright has been phaffing around with his latest film for ages but he seems to be getting a bit more organised now.

The Wire has a piece with Edgar and Michael Cera, IFC about the LAFF, Pitchfork dish the soundtrack and the avatar creator has been added to the official website (be warned, it's noisy).

UltraCulture did a bit of pimping for the adorable Ritzy's special August Wright Double Bill.

In other friends-of-the-scamps news......did you know you can still get First Earth Battalion t-shirts? More importantly, a wonderful bit of kudos should go out to the beautiful soul of Jon Ronson who joined forces with Guy Lovelady to raise funds preventing Frank Sidebottom from making do with a pauper's funeral.

In case you didn't trip up on my other little blog, you can hear some more from Graham Linehan when he talked to Lauren this week. Don't forget that as soon as you turn your ear away from the Adam And Joe Sunset Show on 6Music tomorrow, you must flip to Channel 4 on the television tube to see episode one of the new IT Crowd series......if you haven't watched it on-line already.

Danny Robbins made a guide to Indie Glasto and an events guide via Lauren Laverne's Blog & Show.

My earlier concerns have lifted with this message!

Shaun W Keaveny has made a little film about the Earworm Project. He's also got a brand new podcast.

-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping-ping

Once again, thanks to all the people posting stuff on Twitter for me to steal and unreel.

This blog will revert to it's more simplistic view when Glastonbury is over. It's a bit messy, isn't it?
