Raising a glass of cheer for the months passed and the year to come

2011 has had more reasons to celebrate than any other in recent Adam and Joe history.

JANUARY:

Even this early in the year, Little White Lies were starting the buzz for Attack the Block by running a competition, the winners of which would feature in their next, March 2011 issue.

Adam returned to the BFI with BUG23 but the big event this month was his Maldives piece in The Guardian's Travel section. Like father, like son.

FEBRUARY:

Ah, the month of Adam's glorious, technical breakdown at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill. This provided bonus hilarity due to an unruly Photoshop munchkin which Adam seemed embarrassed about despite the obvious delight of his audience. Three good things came of this. It was gloriously gigglesome, he touchingly perceived some obligation to perform an amazing free show to everyone who had felt let down and it prompted him to get to grips with Keynote which he uses to such great effect these days.

The following night, Adam presented the Röyksopp BUG Special which spilled over into the Benugo bar until the small hours. I say this with caution and without wishing to devalue any other BUG outing but I enjoyed my pants off at this event. I had to put them through a mangle when I got home.

The team at Attack the Block announced that the film would bow with it's premiere at South By Southwest but that the UK release date would be delayed until May 2011.

MARCH:

The first day of March brought the news that the 6Music Adam and Joe Radio Show would return in April for twelve weeks, which ended up totalling fifteen shows, the glorious creme of which was played out this morning and can be caught on the iPlayer for the next seven days. There will also be two podcasts from it.

The next day, Joe appeared on the live broadcast of Film 2011 talking about Attack the Block and showing a couple of clips for the first time.

Despite getting a little uptight about time, Adam presented BUG24 and played a blinder at The Union Chapel.

Joe took a trip to Texas via some scribbling and leg jiggling time in L.A. setting the fuse wire on the great Attack the Block media machine which had the endorsement it needed to begin firing on all cylinders. The excitement at SXSW fueled the internet within seconds of the house lights going up and kept it's momentum for months to come. There's some waffle from that first night here.

Jon Hamblin, a journalist who freelances for SFX Magazine was kind enough to give me some Attack the Block nuggets that didn't make it to the publication.

APRIL:

The Adam and Joe Radio Show returned to 6Music. They were straight in there with memes like 'Why be Denny Different?', 'Nonsense, nonsense, nonsense' and 'Smarties make me naughty'. It was as though all the clever people on the street had a knowing smiles on their face that would last until early July.

The show trended on Twitter and the pod went straight to number one in the iTunes charts within a couple of hours of casting. Later in the month they were at the top of the iPlayer chart too.

The 6Music blog kicked back into action and they acquired a resident artist in the shape of James Hood. Thomas Dolby tweeted about them. Sally Grossart made special Easter Paper People for them.

Adam performed his Technical Meltdown show at the BFI which I believe was the first outing for his helmet-cam countdown film. Adam joined a team of people for a gig in aid of Sod Cancer and whilst relaxing backstage, he was shown (by David Armand and Justin Edwards) a YouTube nugget that would spark Adam and Joe's most invasive meme since Boggins.

BUG Music Videos launched their YouTube playlist showing clips of recent shows including some of Adam's delicious waffle and of course, some comments.

By turn of good fortune and great kindness I attended two preview screenings of Attack the Block but not before enjoying a wry put-down from Joe himself at the Kapow Comic Con. We also learned that Sony/Screen Gems had snapped up the distribution rights for the film in the States and Canada.

The Guardian carried the first, proper Attack the Block based national press interview with Joe from Eve Wiseman.

During the Kapow panel, Joe revealed that he and Edgar had just submitted their second Ant-man draft to Marvel.

MAY:

Attack the Block was finally released in the UK but kicked off with a few previews including the London premiere on 4th May and post screening Q & A's at The Ritzy and The Prince Charles in London's London.

Still giving rise to me smarting my face with a smack, Joe took the time to answer a some silly questions I posed via the internet.

Joe and co. made appearances at Forbidden Planet and The Apple Store and they were generally all over the radio and tv media. Joe Cornish even trended on Twitter at one point. The film was top of the new entries in the weekend Box Office charts and Attack the Block related waffle dominated the podcast chart.

Adam took BUG to Manchester and then returned to the BFI for BUG25. He featured on the radio in an episode of Matt Lucas's "And the Winner Is" which aired on 7th May (no longer available).

The BBC Radio4 Archers Blog included the latest clip from the 6Music show.

Posters and a trailer appeared for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn this month. This is the film for which Joe Cornish & Edgar Wright took over the writing duties when Steven Moffat's Doctor Who workload made him unable to continue.

JUNE:

Glastonbury came around again and the culmination of twelve weeks hard brand identity work was presented in the final three shows, broadcast live from the festival. The time went so quickly and full of so many memorable delights, the most enduring of which seems to be the Taffin cries. There was an exclusive, local Black Squadron gathering which produced all these photographs.

Adam presented a Moby BUG Special at the BFI where we had our first glimpse of his now famous (thanks to Never Mind the Buzzcocks) Moby guessing game. He also did a show at The Idler, joined the lineup at The Drill Hall and helped the National Autistic Society by manning a stand at their rain drenched Carter's Steam Fair event. Finally, he returned to his country pile for BUG Norwich 07.

JULY:

Joe was celebrated with 41 other young creative poppets at an event attended by Willie and Katie in L.A. under the umbrella of "BAFTA Brits to Watch".

Attack the Block was screened in L.A. with Joe and John Boyega (Moses) joining Edgar Wright to present and chat about it. Then they hopped around various cities with their US Press tour, giving print, radio and tv interviews all the way as the film began it's slow release in the States that month.

They went down to the San Diego Comic Con for a panel.

Film4's wonderful Summer Screen event included Attack the Block this year. It was preceded by David Cox in conversation with Joe Cornish in one of the awkwardly seated rooms at Somerset House. Before the film went on screen, Joe hauled as many of the cast as possible onto the stage to take their bows.

Adam took his BUG Special show to Latitude, also making some unscheduled appearances in other areas of the festival. He also honoured his promise from last year's sickly period by bringing BUG to the Bristol Comedy Garden and then back to London for BUG26 shows.

The first series of Silent Library aired this month, with Adam giving the commentary. It's a bit of silly nonsense but Adam made it fun to watch.

Joe and Edgar submitted their third Ant-man draft script to Marvel complete with some artistic impressions.

AUGUST:

Joe took Attack the Block to Locarno and Berlin (joined by Nick Frost) and it opened in more US cities.

Empire's Big Screen weekend included a special cast attended screening of Attack the Block with Joe & co chatting on stage afterwards. They were also looping the Tintin trailer in the concession area.

Adam did a five night run of BUGs at the Edinburgh Festival. These shows were completely sold out! He popped up at an afternoon Comedy Club For Kids event (appropriately at the Bongo Club) and on the last day he joined lovely Richard Herring for his daily live podcast while he was up there.

Made In Me launched their audio app featuring Adam Buxton reading bedtime stories.

Jude Adam Mason, the lovely, long-suffering, giggly producer of early Adam and Joe radio shows had her beautiful little baby Milly this month.

BUG Music Videos made a Summer Summary.

SEPTEMBER:

Adam kept the BUG train rolling with specials in The Queen Elizabeth Hall (which Joe attended), King's Place and the Greenwich Comedy Festival. The new BFI BUG27 shows were at the end of the month.

Attack the Block was released on DVD, Blu-ray and through various on-line portals in the UK this month, starting with an exclusive rental at Blockbuster. The hard copies had a variety of special packages and some wonderful extra features. We've recently learned that Germany will introduce a steel case version in February 2012.

The film continued to open in more US cities this month.

Get Darker launched a DJ competition to tie in with the film's soundtrack.

OCTOBER:

The Adam and Joe 6Music Radio Show won a BTDMA!

Adam hosted the most lauded episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks of the entire series. Surely, the only thing stopping him from becoming a more permanent host is the chance of making his own BUG style tv show. Please note that the Best Of aired this week includes one tiny clip not previously shown.

Joe had a wicked and wet time in Sitges where Attack the Block collected four awards! He joined Luke Treadaway at MoMA for a presentation of Attack the Block and then they both went on to meet John Boyega at the New York Comic Con for a streamed interview with Marvel, a roundtable and a panel at the weekend. What is it with me and film conventions? I have skill for self-embarrassment.

Adam presented BUG Specials in Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool and BUG Norwich 8.

Tintin was premiered in London and Joe joined the press junket with Edgar Wright and Steven Moffat. He also did a little Attack the Block chitty chat with Edith Bowman for BAFTA voters.

Joe talked to eager delegates at the London Screenwriters Festival.

Adam finally shared this wonderful home video with us.

NOVEMBER:

Adam had BUG Specials in Hull, Cardiff and the Cheltenham Festival and joined Jon Holmes and Olly Mann for a radio event in Salford. In a slight change of format, he introduced Jon Spiro's excellent Anyone Can Play Guitar followed by wonderful interviews with some of the contributors. It's a crying shame this film doesn't have a big distribution deal. Jon gives Martin Scorcese a run for his money.....well, a speed walk at least.

BUG28 was at the BFI this month and there was a OneDotZero BUG special featuring Björk. Adam also did a small show at this Promax event and presented the UK Music Video Awards again this year, which included another gong given to Attack the Block's Tom Townend for his work with Adele.

All of these were gigs eclipsed by the staggering Radiohead BUG Special at the end of the month. This is an enormous auditorium and not only did he (and maybe Radiohead) fill it but he held the audience in the palm of his hand and made it feel as intimate as a small club. If I have any right to such a thing, I felt so proud of him. He is a truly accomplished performer with a uniquely personable manner that is a rare and precious commodity.

DECEMBER:

Adam gave us this:

Joe gave us zip.
Nothing.
He collapsed in an exhausted, sexy tangle on the floor.

Broadcasting House, however saw fit to give him something. A spurtle, no less.

Adam and Joe must be busy with sutin because they couldn't give us a Christmas show.

Adam might be working hard to get his Sydney show together and maybe he is closer to having something for the tv.

Joe has said he's got all his research done for writing his next film but he may have changed his mind. He has always retained that prerogative, the raving ponce.

2011/12

So there it is.

Adam Buxton presented a record breaking episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks and played to what was probably his biggest audience in the Odeon Leicester Square for the Radiohead BUG Special.

Joe Cornish released his writing and directorial debut film to both critical and audience acclaim worldwide and enjoyed considerable recognition for his part in the writing of the Tintin script.

Adam is taking BUG to Sydney in January, then returning to the BFI and to the Leicester Comedy Festival in February.

He continues to regale us with tales of his Country Man plus sporadic, joyous bursts on his YouTube Channel and blog.

Joe is sitting at home in his wolf pants watching daytime telly, fiddling with his spurtle and vetting all the awards as they roll in.

Attack the Block has garnered the following recognition thus far:

....and the best accolade of all, with something akin to a deadline-free, peoples' award extending into perpetuity, this film has inspired incredible fan art and is currently figuring in many bloggers' top ten films of the year.

For my part, if they've been busy, then to a lesser degree, so have I.
If they've been publicly happy then I've been happy too.
As always, this blog carries the disclaimer that I mean no harm with my waffle. If it's ever misconstrued it's because I'm an idiothole and cannot adequately express myself.
I did man up enough to splutter a couple of words to both Adam and to Joe in person this year but I was so much in awe that I could hardly look them in the eye which probably resulted in them thinking any of the nonsense I clumsily spluttered was not truthful. My mouth dried, my tongue swelled and I failed introduce myself in this guise. Perhaps that implies I should step back a little in 2012.

This is my attempt at pre-cogging these silly men.

BUG Radiohead Special

With the help of a tireless team of behind the scenes content filterers and fixers, Adam Buxton has taken the Antenna format's fragile pupa on a colourful journey through chrysalis to what has now become more of beautiful butterfly than the common or garden BUG described in the logo.

Last night, that robust lepidoptera flexed it's wings and left it's pheromones all over Leicester Square for what I believe is the biggest BUG event thus far.

Demand for a BUG Special featuring Radiohead was bound to be high and fortunately, the organisers audaciously secured the enormous auditorium at Odeon's flagship cinema. Whilst it may not be the biggest screen in town, it packs around 1680 seats, give or take and was so flummoxed by the ticket buying frenzy on the night the event was announced that even the staff in the box office couldn't resuscitate the booking system until the next morning.

If that's doesn't discolour Adam's wolf pants, nothing will.

In the actual event, Adam was at his most warm and comfortably confident.

Regular BUG attenders will be fondly used to technical hitches and indeed, some regulars are so blasé about this that they habitually arrive after the scheduled start time. As I wandered up the beautiful, building-site-themed* approach to the event with only ten minutes to spare, there were long lines of people waiting to collect tickets from those stubborn machines and the charmingly interactive Box Office staff.

Despite that, the show started pretty much on time with most people already in their seats.

A delay of no more than a couple of minutes did sadly mean Adam's helmet-cam cycling-to-the-venue film had to be paused with only about 90 seconds to go but perhaps they had good reason. Unlike most other BUG events**, Adam had devised the dreamy title sequence film himself and that gave way to a masterful entrance only marred by the intoxication of the spotlight operator rendering a reaction delay of some few seconds which continued to punctuate other parts of the evening. Adam functions best under these conditions because his comedy reflexes automatically toddle him off in the direction of verbal cover-up which usually results in his audience convulsing and, in some cases, being hospitalised or sedated.

He was mindful of the potential number of BUG virgins so to avoid any confusion, made a slide to demonstrate his name, severally.

Once he'd dealt with a few house rules, like how to be rewarded with cake for humiliating anyone rude enough to film any of the night's proceedings by shouting and pointing at them, he introduced the first three films, with the helpful note that there is a black space between them carefully placed to allow for whooping and cheering.

At this point, Adam showed us some samples of what the YouTube community felt about this work. This is Adam's forte. Many people may look at what he does here and think it's a great idea and ripe for imitation. I don't believe anyone can seek out and deliver these comments with the brio that Adam brings and I seriously doubt anyone else would have the tenacity to trawl through them all.

I believe it was at this point when Adam introduced Jonny and Colin Greenwood to the stage for some chats. It should be noted that there was a picture-in-picture bringing a close-up of this interview to the very back of the highest of the high seats. Poor Jonny was clearly very ill at ease when he discovered this, with good reason because he is uncomfortably pretty.

Adam has an interviewing style which, like his presentation method, makes his audience feel as though they've sneaked into a private evening with a few friends, a bowl of Twiglets and some mulled wine. Happily for us all, on this occasion Adam didn't even seem to be hung up about time.****

He showed us embarrassing pictures and videos, mercurial nuggets and shared private memories of the days he and Garth spent in Oxford preparing and filming for their Webcast.

A lot of this material is online for those keen to seek it out but I feel bound to link this wonderful piece in which Adam's camera defaulted into demo mode while Ed was reading his moving poem. I can report that last night's audience totally destroyed any poignancy herein with their completely disrespectful and raucous laughter when all the nonsense began. It was feckin' hilarious but I think Adam would have preferred a little more chin fumbling consideration.

Adam finally released Jonny and Colin from their blissful trauma on stage to make way for the charmingly besuited Garth Jennings, a beloved BUG regular and dear friend of Adam's. They continued to talk about the Webcast material and the making of Lotus Flower. If there's one glaring omission to this evening's programming it was no doubt done with humility but I would love to have seen Adam's rendition of Lotus Flower one more time. I'm sure he will never be able to put it on his channel but it's a joy to behold....or did I just dream he made it?

I do hope Mr Knight and the people of BUG don't mind me displaying a reproduction of their lovely programme notes below but I'm sure they're too busy celebrating the success of the evening to pop them at their own site for the time being. Do take a minute or two to read them.

I don't usually review the work of Adam and Joe in any great depth because I assume and believe that my unashamed adoration of the pair would render any comment impotent but I felt this event was such a milestone in BUG's history that it warranted documenting. I am fairly sure that I was not viewing the room through rose tinted goggles when I say that everyone from the furthest reaches of my peripheral vision was enthralled by the entire programme and delighted with Adam's presentation. In my capacity as his self-appointed, in no way related Aunt, I was so proud of the way he handled this massive room. It's enormous. Have I said that before? I hope everyone heard him clearly and saw as much as they were expecting. He was utterly magnificent. Oh no, now I've gone too far.

I think that the brief sortie into three BUG BFI shows last year will need to be reinstated for the Spring sessions.

I'm shamed to note that it is more than a month since I waffled in this blog. I am diligently keeping notes to interesting bobbles in my link locker and will address this oversight at my earliest convenience. Given that it's the season of far too many films to see, I have no idea when that might be.

...and please excuse the Attack the Block reference. While I was writing, I did think it was apposite.

Adam puts an enormous amount of effort in everything he does. Turning up on the day is not something this man can countenance as his recent hosting of Never Mind the Buzzcocks will attest.

However, BUG is devised and curated by David Knight of Promo News etc with the help of Phil Tidy, Ballistic, Locomotion and the BFI.

Every other month, BUG looks at the most weird and the most wonderful music videos to emerge recently, thrusts them up on a big screen which is bookended by two delightfully ponce-laden bars. Each event has at least two versions, the first one of which normally invites a guest director onto the stage for some insightful chat, giggles and degree of embarrassment.

Adam's status as a dedicated family man also ensures that he gives a quarterly version of BUG closer to his golden mansion in the Norwich Playhouse and over the last year, since Joe released him from the burden of non-stop radio shows, he has had the opportunity to take a Best Of version all around the British Isles and beyond. His next run of shows takes him all the way down to that special place, AUSTRALIA.

If Radiohead brought you to your first encounter with BUG and Adam Buxton you may have thought you were imagining things when you detected the faintest hint of a catch in Adam's voice when he bade us a happy festive season and gave his goodbye. No, that was not your imagination. He loves his audience and it breaks his heart to leave us. Well, he loves me. He's not so keen on you over there with the funny hair and the strangely tainted breath.

You've been privileged enough to be introduced the perfect blend of music, visual joy and warmly served giggles. I hope it brings you to the next London BUG at the BFI on February 9th & 16th or one of the many other shows.

Tickets always go on sale to BFI members on the first Tuesday of the month prior to the show and non-members can book a week later. There are usually a small number of last minute seats available on the night but this event always sells out online.

From my point of view, the biggest news nuggets of the week are:

The Adam and Joe Radio Show for 6Music won the Best Radio Show or Podcast Award at the British Telecom Digital Music Awards!

...during an interview in Sitges, Joe Cornish said he'd got all his material together for his next script and just needed to sit down and write it. Another tweet implied that some post production might take place with him in 2012. This may have referred to Ant-man but it's all good news. I wouldn't want to guess how many of these themes will be covered.

To finally see Joe standing with the wicked Sitges logo behind him makes a silly old Auntie very happy.

...Adam Buxton hosted an episode of Never Mind the Buzzocks which will air this coming Monday. This is such delicious news. Hosting the show is both prestigious and I would imagine far less daunting than sitting on the bench, wondering how you can make an awesome contribution whilst firing off your panic neurons. It's my guess that Adam will seem very comfortable in this position and I have spent the last couple of nights re-enacting a fly-on-the-wall scene wherein Adam is asked to be the permanent host for the foreseeable future and a vast some of money with pension benefits. Of course, the BBC don't work like that but I made it clear this happened during my sleep time, didn't I?

.....and these glorious ingots of information spurred me on to make another turgid blog update. You know the format. There might be something in here for you but don't hold your breath.

Our favourite idiotholes are busy doing such diverse things that I've started to attempt an event diary type of things*. Big of the E&OE with this one.

Sitges continues to run until Sunday and Attack the Block is in competition. If Twitter is a trustworthy social witness, it has already taken gold in the hearts of everyone who attended one of the three screenings. Joe topped up the tan on his otherwise lily-white limbs by introducing the weekend screenings and holding one of those 'panel' things to the clear delight of everyone around. There are photos and videos in the wonderfully saturated Sitges diary on days three and four.

Joe is in New York today and will talk to Museum of Modern Art goers about his film tonight. Luke Treadaway will join him. At the weekend, Joe is joined by John Boyega for a panel at the New York Comic Con and Marvel will be streaming an interview with him on Saturday at 11am EST.

Nick Frost joined Joe in Berlin for their festival. I need few excuses to feature Joe's Giant Robot t-shirt.

Attack the Block won a couple more awards in Europe and has been nominated for a Writers' Guild of Great Britain award. Since my last blogpost, the film came out on DVD, Blu-ray, On-Demand and some Sky channel or other. The discs had exclusive covers and booklets, depending upon where you bought it. HMV had a huge poster by their escalators for a week. It went straight into the top three of both charts. It sold out in Sainsbury's by the Tuesday.

New cities in the States are taking it on still, even though the discs are released in a couple of weeks. It's been added to the festivals down under in Canberra and Brisbane, where it is the Opening Night Film.

She may have only seen the film a paltry five times but Kartina Richardson has made a lovely blogpost. I am woefully behind with my side-blog dedicated to the film but I have all the links stored & will get around to it. There's a lot of lovely poster art out there.

Before I leave the film I want to link this competition (now closed) because there are some cool things to listen to. I hope Joe is proud to have inspired such a thing.

He made a wonderful blogpost the other day, proudly sporting a shot from the BT DMAs and a lovely banner advertising his King's Place gig.

In this week of equilibrium, a balanced newsburst is the least I can offer.

Joe's film is primed to be thrust into your living room apparatus and Adam is taking his joy to the people of the North West again.

This time, Adam and the BUG Special Crew are bound for Liverpool and to the FACT which contains a Picturehouse wherein he shall be giving the full power of his delightful nonsense not once but twice in the same night. Not many men of his age can boast such an achievement.

The glorious Picturehouses (or City Screen in Urbanese) take pride in lovingly teasing every frame of a film through their cotton-gloved fingertips before they allow the eyes of their beloved punters to view it. Much of this night's footage will be supplied on DVD, which they will feel compelled to make into an attractive mirror before the night is through. If you're still wondering whether you should buy that ticket, take a listen to indie movieland's most accomplished podcasters as Sam and Simon chat to Buckles himself. Note that Adam speaks of doing a Big Mixtape Christmas Show which will be wonderful but makes me even more doubtful of getting an Adam and Joe Christmas Show.

You must be thinking that the Picturehouse group sound too good to be true but you do not know the half of it.

Back down in smokey London town, The Ritzy is not only showing Attack the Block on the big screen again but they're doing it for FREE as part of the Brixton Reel Film Festival. I would simply implore you to only snag one of these seats if you fully intend to use it. My heart would break if the auditorium was half empty because chancers were too lazy to turn up or not release their seats. This is not a shonky, money-grabbing multi-plex. It's a palace of dreams with a beautiful sandman at every turn.

If you can't be bothered to venture further than your front room you'll not miss out. Attack the Block will be available from 19th September on a disc. That's this Monday, in old money. If the effort of finding your credit card is all too much for you, there are several chances to win a copy. Count 'em.

I'm not sure what the 2 Disc DVD set has to offer and is showing as out of stock at Play so perhaps it's a placeholder for a sexy, extended extras version containing press tour footage and fan-made homages. Amazon are only showing a 2 Disc DVD or the Double Play set so I'm guessing the DVD ships as a 2 discer, regardless.

If all else fails, SKY Movies Box Office start showing it on Monday too.....from 7am and finally, if you're in the States, your discs are being rush-released on 25th October.

Adam has previously presented a small BUG show at the BBC Music Video Festival (19th September to 1st October) but he has his regular Norwich BUG #8 shows (2nd date now added) scheduled for a few days after it ends so he may just wander eagerly around in the audience this time. It's worth noting that Jamie Thraves, director of The Low Down (briefly featuring Adam and Joe) will be at one of the events.

Tickets are not on sale yet but Adam will be introducing a very special evening at the BFI in November.

If you haven't listened to Richard Herring's Edinburgh Podcast with Adam, please do so now and read the warm words he shares on his daily blog. Adam also did an unexpected turn at the Comedy Club for Kids while he was up there.

Surely, there must come a time when Adam can be referred to as All of Bug and Joe as Half Writer, Half Director? In fact, Time Out were already on the case. Several reports confirmed that Joe was in the audience at the lovely Queen Elizabeth Hall gig. Sadly, on this occassion, I was not. Mark George reviews Adam's Greenwich show here.

There's a ton of Attack the Block stuff to share but I'll confine most of it to my reference blog when I get a moment. I just wanted to put this Q&A video here, filmed from the audience in Berlin at the Fantasy Film Festival.

The Lost Update

As the title implies, this is a rebuilt update from one that seems to have evaporated mid-construction.

Joe's pace of promotional commitments is finally slowing down (although that included a trip to Locarno, he's in Berlin with Nick Frost today and there's strong rumour of Sitges Film Festival) but Adam's public performances continue at an orderly pace.

Silent Library has pretty much come and gone since my last blog post but it was well enough received to be talking positively about a second series. For his sake and ours, I hope they retain Adam for the commentary and perhaps Five will drag it onto their terrestrial channel...if that's not too old fashioned a suggestion.

BUG Music Videos put their breakdown of BUG26 on-line with unaccustomed and eye-watering speed this time.

Apart from the vast swathes of media about Joe Cornish and his film Attack the Block, the following delights have also popped up..........

Lamenting the loss of the Adam and Joe Show, Roger Miller and friend(s?) made some beautiful warbly sounds.

Drew Worthley also made this melancholic folk style Text the Nation jingle. I still reckon, despite Adam's protestations, that this jingle is the most homaged and reworked of the lot.

The Daily Telegraph insisted that Adam shared imaginings of how his stint in Edinburgh might pan out and there's a review of Adam's visit to Bristol last month. His Latitude appearance gets a nice mention here. Someone snapped him singing his Birthday Song to a Woman or two.

I've covered far too much Attack the Block media in my Block Blog but it might amuse some readers here to note how much nonsense can pitch up on the interwebs if they are left to their own devices. Here's a nutty translation of this original piece for Hollywood Chicago.

Right in the middle of the phone-hacking scandal, this seminal debate rocked the nation to it's core.

Just when you thought you'd heard everything Joe has to say about his film, he licks his finger, swipes it along the bottom of his nugget box and comes up with a handful of sticky crumbs, none more gratifyingly represented than in Jeff Goldsmith's lovely podded interview.

I won't sicken everyone by compiling all the luvverly plaudits about Attack the Block from industry gods but the beautiful Duncan Jones spread his excitement out over four cheeky tweets which has to be noteworthy, doesn't it?

Joe's most recent public appearances in the UK were for the Film4 Summer Screen and Empire Big Screen. By way of a swan song, I meant to do a potted review of these events but the loss of this earlier blogpost has probably made that a less attractive proposition. There are various snippets and pictures around and about. Charlie Lyne gratifyingly snapped this wonderful evocation of the moment when the music builds to punch the title logo into our eyeballs.

As Adam and Joe's wonderful, giggly producer Jude, from both XFM and 6Music days, patiently awaits the birth of her baby**, I thought it would be nice to look at this again.

Joe remains rather quiet in this one as Edgar regales us with precious little news about Ant-man.

When Joe came on stage to answer questions after viewing Attack the Block at Empire Big Screen, it was inevitable his opinion of the recent disturbances, some of which took place in that part of London he loves so much and calls home, would be sought.

Someone has kindly sent a transcript of his response. I've been unsure whether to share this because as always, the timbre of Joe's voice gave more quality to his reply than the words on this page can convey. He answered with clear thinking, humility, lucidity, calm concern, reserved passion and inevitable humour.

Q: Given recent events in London like rioting and stuff and the kind of comment, usually by the media and things that young children are watching these things do you ever worry that the film might come out in a negative light?

Joe: No, I think it's got a very positive message, this film.

It starts off with them doing wrong and we make no bone about that but as soon as they do something wrong, shit falls from the sky and punishes them and then it's actually even more hard core than Mr Cameron ....(while he defends his action)......but they get killed..... I don't know if you noticed.

It's a story of redemption. You know, Moses sees the error of his ways.

I think the only possibly slightly provocative thing about Attack the Block is that it's optimistic and it's positive and it's unafraid to be positive about kids who've done something genuinely bad. If that's controversial then I'm cool with that. I think what's very important right now is to be positive and inclusive.

Aside from that I don't see that it's got a huge amount of connections. I actually think what happened over the last few days is a big cluster of all kinds of issues, part of which is connected to what Attack the Block is talking about and indeed what a lot of British urban movies have been trying to communicate over the last ten years. I hope people do listen to young people a bit more after what's happened.

This was probably one of Joe's last opportunities to discuss his first feature film with an eager audience in the UK. I've been stupid and yet fortunate enough to attend several of these events over the last few months and have come to realise that one of the main obstacles to him returning to 6Music is that he seems to have slowly acquired a level of of aplomb, devoid of ramshackledocity that simply will not do for the radio show.

We can only hope that a few months at home, attempting to write his next feature but procrastinating with only the cat to talk to will restore the muddle to his brainium and reduce him to the idiothole-cum-ponce that can deliver more award winning nonsense to our wax-filled earholes.

I've not done with Glastonbury yet, you know.

Adam was kind enough to make this shoutout for #TwitSquadron and Kimika while he was at Glastonbury and I hope to have an album of tweeted photos up very soon.

The Guardian were expecting a healthy amount of Stephenage around the Stone Circle.

Speaking of Stephen! Some of you may know that the originator of this worldwide phenomenon is none other than Steve Curran but it turns out that just before Stephenage reached it's peak, Joe met with another Mr S Curran. You'll hopefully remember that he joined in a podcast for One Life Left back in January 2009. One of the OLL regular contributors is Ste Curran. I like silly things like that.

The lovely team at 6Music made a gallery of photos from Glastonbury. Those really do look like rather uncomfortable working conditions to spend three hours a day in. It seems they hardly had enough room to perch opposite James, there. Hopefully, we will soon see James Hood's final picture and perhaps some photos sent in by Black Squadron members who were lucky enough to meet their Commanders at Glastonbury.

The admirable row created by those troupes has been blended with the now all too familiar images.

If you remember how the Taffin thing started, you'll remember other wonky deliveries in films were discussed and Funny Or Die have put many of those mentioned together in one page.

We may not have been able to see much of Adam and Joe during their Glastonbury broadcasts but they left their mark in the Portakabin if you look to the right of Robin Ince (his left)

Joe's filmic achievements will be celebrated with 41 others at the inaugural "Brits to Watch" event held by BAFTA LA and attended by BAFTA’s President, HRH The Duke of Cambridge, and his spanking new wife person, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge as part of their current tour.

Hollywood must beside themselves with Willie and Katie anticipation so I can only imagine how Joe must be feeling. I doubt he could have envisaged this back in the days when he was working on 'Attack the Estate'.

The New Beverley Cinema showed Attack the Block for their Independence Day film on Monday. Joe joined Edgar on stage afterwards for a Q & A.

Trina Marie made John Boyega's day by tweeting this.

John was named as one of Screen International's Stars of Tomorrow last week. He has been taken on by one of Hollywood's most prestigious agents and gave this exclusive interview to Hollywood.com.

He also joined Edgar Wright after a screening at the L.A. Film Festival for a Q & A. This film shows a brief clip from it.

Silent Library, for which Adam is doing the commentary, airs it's first episode next Tuesday on Five's digital channel, Five Star. This season will run for six weeks and they have optimistically referred to it as 'Series One'. You can follow the show on Twitter too.

Returning to the Bowie Basket, Den of Geek have rightfully placed Adam at the top of their list of on-screen Bowie impressions.

Adam cycled through torrential rain to show his support for the National Autistic Society's special evening at the Carter Steam Fair on Eel Brook Common and recorded this message.

Janine Shroff made the wonderful Adam and Joe Guide a couple of years ago and her work has been used in both the top and bottom banners of the 6Music website. She has been working on a couple of updates including a wonderful Scorn Bucket and a Boggins page.

The other night Rupert live tweeted from the Rooftop screening of Labyrinth. I should have been cross that he was shining his torch phone all over the area but I have to admit is was a bit of fun.

Amongst all the excitement of Attack the Block's UK release, I managed to miss this priceless offering from Chris Salt.

The Mud Is Settling On Worthy Farm

We were most certainly spoiled over this past weekend.

Those of us confined to our dry and refrigerator-handy homes began three days with utter nonsense, nonsense, nonsense from our Commanders and those poor souls who chose to endure sleepless days and nights from noisy neighbours were rewarded beyond their wildest dreams with what I'm going to puff up by referring to as TWO personal appearances from the webcam-shy radio botherers.

These being the last few shows for the predictable future, they went out with a sonic bang, if you will.

Invited to join the start of the Saturday show, the response from onsite Black Squadron members warmed Joe's cockles so much his jeans began to give way and even the most stubbornly prickly whisker on Adam's magnificent beard was softened to a downy wisp.

Glastonbury is surely one of the prime reasons it was imperative to save 6Music. The coverage could not have been sustained by any of their other so-called 'stations' to the level of excellence we were privileged to enjoy. We had tireless work from James, Lucy and Tom plus missive wrangling and fielding from Peta on the web feed. Thank you BBC. Thank you 6Music.

There are still podcasts to catch-up on and revisit. The BBC have some special dispensation to leave a ton of them there going back as far as last Christmas.

To my great joy and surprise, they whispered a little word of thanks in my lug area via the final podcast.

Some of my web-based operation would not necessarily comply with BBC Guidelines and for that reason I have assumed they'd not mention me within the castle walls. Perhaps they felt that this little field trip afforded them a cheeky opportunity for which I am deeply touched.

Adam overcame fears of tearfulness to use his heartwarmingly and sincerely genuine voice. Joe played it safe, using the stoic tones he reserves to hide what is clearly a deep rooted passion.

A Silly Blog about Adam and JoeAnniversary Adversary

I didn't start this blog with a well planned fanfare so it seems inappropriate to set foot in it's third year with anything more than a regular update. However, at this time of reflection it won't hurt to explain that I began this nonsense as a bit of summertime fun while Adam and Joe were taking a relatively short break in 2009. Events overtook the thing and it turned into something else. The twitter feed became the monstrously interfering Auntie Nubbins and to quote a line from a much loved, tiny Optimum Releasing film from last decade "Who you set out to be is not always who you become".

With Joe's film safely grounded in the cinema schedules and Adam's stand-up & BUG career similarly accelerating around the world like a sonic tornado I feel this waffle portal may have run it's course. It's possible that Adam and Joe might just be able to survive without my reminding them where they said they'd be and when with my poor, lumpy prose.

However, the following has trickled over the filters of my search pebbills and may be of some interest.

June kicked off with another BUG Special. These are always wickles nights of concentrated fun but in this case the guest, Moby quickly grasped where Adam was going and they had a really lovely time on stage together. You can read a bit more from Mike Chapman, whom I believe was also a driving force behind pressing for the Manchester BUG. Joe Walsh also wrote a fabby piece about the night and there's a blog report here too.

The following weekend, Adam seemed to have brought the entire family into the 6Music studio which was very sweet. It looked like Frank chose to sit with Uncle Joe which momentarily melted this stony old heart. I won't embarrass any of the parties with webcam grabs.

A few days later, Stephenage was revived with fond nostalgia as Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold doubted the sustainability of such a fad. You've probably heard Joe's 6Music reportage on the subject but there's a nice bit in the Guardian too. Twitter was full of it on the night(s).

I'm still waiting for reports from Adam's gig at The Idler Academy last Wednesday. Squadron member, Nathan grabbed a last minute chance to take up duty on the door and Emmy the Great was there too. It sounds as though it was a special and intimate evening. Edited to add the first report from Spoonfed.

Meanwhile, BirthingSquadron had a long night of twitter encouragement before "Adam" was presented to the world. Lucy Annabel was awarded 'Tweet of the Night' for this.

Bravely eschewing concerns about any further shrinkage, Adam braved the torrential rain in aid of the National Autistic Society at the Carter Steam (Un)Fair last Friday. It was a truly miserable lump of weather allocation but everyone who made the effort to turn up seemed to have stoically broad grins on their faces. Here's one lucky punter's photo. Joe didn't want to risk getting his hair a little bit damp despite previously declaring how much he enjoyed god's spritz.

Later that evening, Adam headlined at The Bush Hall and Richard Herring, the host himself made a lovely blog entry about it. I love reading impressions from first-timers. There's an energy to their enthusiasm that is infectious. It seems he showed the wonderful Moby Identification film he made for the BUG Special earlier which is bladder testingly funny.

The WYIFN had a little competition to celebrate the opening of Attack the Block by inviting members to submit a toy-based film.

Attack the Block is double billing with Die Hard at this year's Somerset House/Film4 Summer Screen run but I believe both it and the pre-film discussion are sold out.

After remaining in the UK top 20 for four weeks, the film finally has a release date of 29th July for a few big cities in the States and preview screenings have been happening over the last couple of weeks to great twitter excitement. It seems that Joe stumped up a delicious Shiner Bock for everyone attending the Austin preview. A red band trailer was released for anyone needing a spoiler-fest. (Seriously, think hard before you watch this, it will impair your viewing of the final product).

Deepest joy of the week was the discovery that there are an entire eighty four creature lovin' minutes of extra feature wafflization on the DVD/BD/Digital version which you can buy to own and salaciously run your tongue over in September. You might want to opt for the Play.com Special pack with Glow In the Dark nonsense and what looks like might be a complimenting green case. Lurble, lurble, lurble.

I try not to have favourites but I'm only human. The 6Music Radio Show which aired on 11th June 2011 was a corker. Quite possibly the jewel in the crown of the 2011 run. I suspect I'm not alone in this opinion. James made the podcast a suspiciously short offering which I might suggest was ergonomically compressed to efficiently delight the ears of Sony judges in the fullness of time whilst also including a meta kind of request-stroke-challenge to pop a noon barrier jongle in the absolute midpoint of said pod. Joe's workload had clearly lightened a little after all the film promotional hoopla and despite having some kind of very late :cough: work commitment the night before he seemed to have more time to prepare and contribute to both The Listeners' and Adam's delight.

This show was the two year anniversary of one of the other funniest shows in the locker (13th June 2009) wherein Joe first brought the ludicrosity of Blah Boobidy Baya to our attention and I feel sure it was pure coincidence that he revisited the subject in the 11th June show. I see the BBC have changed their perceived spelling of this timeless band in their recent blogpost but they remain as entertaining as ever. We were also introduced to illustrator James Hood, Roo's dad Graham and some sublime jingle reworkings. There was even cake. You can understand my fondness, surely?

The last studio-based show in the present run has aired and we only have Glastonbury left to enjoy. The festival microsite seems to be fully functional now, having gone live a little prematurely last week. They're showing a 2009 picture with a 2010 label and I'd like to know how long they gave Adam and Joe to come up with those choices of acts but everyone at 6 has to multitask so I'll forgive them. 6Music give such amazing coverage of the festival for those of us not able to attend. I am particularly chuffed to see that Shaun Keaveny has finally been allowed down there to join in the fun.

If you intend to arrive at Worthy Farm in time for an early start on the Saturday, please go along to the left hand side of the Pyramid Stage where the BBC OB unit set up their camp. Adam and Joe will be conducting the Black Squadron half hour by roaming around that part of the site and interacting with listeners. Please take an extra pair of clean paants. I believe further details will be posted at the BBC Blog in due course.

They've not been out of the top ten Podcasts or Episodes for the entire 2011 run and I wouldn't be surprised if their Glastonbury shows shoot them right up to the top for their swan song. That they can consistently remain in the top listings for the Radio iPlayer is something to be overwhelmingly proud of.

That final studio show, though heady with toxic emissions, evoked happy memories of the gloriously silly video Adam was showing in the Autumn of 2009 with himself, Joe and Louis Theroux dancing to Groove is in The Heart by Deee Lite. A select group of idiotholes saw it at the Electric Proms event but he also showed it in Greenwich and at BUG 15 Director's Cut. Joe found time to see Derrin Brown's latest show with Louis and reminded us of his Mr Magico days. What an amusing child-ponce he must have been. Joe also caught some sneaky peaky films including Adam's Stardust co-star Dexter Fletcher's directorial debut.

They used their almost dormant Twitter account to share a picture of a stuffed beaver but to be honest, I was more interested in seeing the BBQ of cement slathered skulls. They seem to be playing that Adam and Joe, 6Music jingle with the warmly surprised tone in it much more lately. I find it strangely comforting even though it's not made by Adam or Joe.

They revisited the Goblin King and reminded us of Adam's audition film. Joe surprised and alarmed us with his hitherto unheard impression of Frank Oz. Adam teased us with more reference to his much anticipated new instalment of Country Man by discussing nettles at length and even giving us what he called a 'song' about them. Can somebody remind me how we learned to cope without all this stuff on a Saturday, please?

According to the Radio Times, Andrew Collins and Josie Long will be covering the 10-1 slot on 2nd July.

Andrew Mawson has made an Adam and Joe based soundboard app for the iPhone, iTouch & iPad called NonSense 9000.

There's a lovely Black Squadron partnership out there in the form of David and Fiona James and today I thought I'd link Fiona's blog where she keeps her command submissions and much more. Andrew Collins sweetly takes the trouble to thank David for his help in this blogpost. Attendees of the BUG Röyksopp Special will remember that David's parents had the incredible foresight to name him "vidjam on twitter".

Squadron's Got Chalant

Let's start with some top class, Squadron talent outings.

EuroButcher was inspired to draw this by a tiny bit of 2011 Adam and Joe convo.

I don't think I've linked to the Tumblr pages which contain many of the Made-up-Jokes read out over the years. Adam and Joe rather sweetly thought PJ in Manchester, who laboured so hard to gather these together had also designed the lovely Vertigo style page but that credit goes to Matthew Buchanan who designed the template in 2008. It looks superb, either way. I do hope he finds the time to update it and fill in the 2010 gaps but I certainly wouldn't blame them if he didn't. It's a nest of eggs/worm basket.

Dr Tom "Chill Cake" Williamson has made a nonsense button for you to press in times of need (I recommend multiple presses for Cornballs gratification) and Gentle Invasion made this promo for Ireland's great waste bin.

I've moved my page of Black Squadron Commands over here and also made a page listing the Podcast Intro Songs and a gathering of James Hood's weekly drawings.

The Archers Blog noted Adam and Joe's (& squadroner's) contribution to their saucy listening figures. Happily, they also corrected a little identity error made earlier.

This series of the 6Music show and podcast has probably been doing more consistently well in the iPlayer and iTunes charts than previous runs, I feel. 6Music was awarded "National Radio Station of the Year" last week.

The Sabotage Times have put together their top ten Adam and Joe broadcasting moments.

The twelve week season is drawing dangerously near it's end. I suppose there are couple or three more Western House shows plus hopefully some Glastonbury coverage. If the Glasto shows are in the evening, I thought it might be fun to play a drinking game with cans of Seven-Up and Dr Pepper so if you feel moved to make suggestions, please put them here.

Keep an eye open on the Channel 4 schedules for Jennifer Saunder's 2 hour special "What's so funny about the 90's?" as I believe Marcus Harben interviewed Adam and Joe for it back in January.

Adam Boult put this delightful piece together about Adam and BUG for Drowned in Sound and just in today, a charmer from This is Fake DIY.

Adam also spoke to the lovely Ali Plumb for Asylum* and this was in The Quietus.

There's an enormous picture of Adam in a classic catalogue pose at the Latitude website now but no clear indication of whether he's there with his stand-up or if they've moved his BUG show into the Comedy Arena this year. However, I get the impression it's the former.

In case you missed my tweet, Adam has added another gig on 15th June 2011 at The Idler Academy, Notting Hill, London.

It's worth keeping an eye on the AdamandJoe.com forum page for Adam's gigs (E&OE). Don't forget there are gigs in Bristol, Edinburgh and Hull coming up and I believe he's very keen to revisit the hospitality of Manchester again when he can. BUG26 tickets go on sale to BFI members next week (for July 13th & 14th). Adam also has a calendar feature on his redesigned blog.

If you attended BUG25 you'll have seen him perform this live. Sit down and giggle at his delicious bed-head.

Since my last post here, the day before the previews started, a great deal of Attack the Block nuggets have popped up. I have added many of the press reviews to my special ATB pages and will get around to some of the more fun stuff like photos from special events and video interviews. In the meantime, I'll plop this here.

"Icy driving conditions just got a lot more menacing"

So far as the box office in the UK was concerned, it entered at number three for the first weekend, falling to five in the second and it's ninth after this, the third weekend. A wonderful result for a tiny British film.

He may poo poo the Twitter but he refers to it as though he uses it more than I do so it must have warmed his cockills to see this.

September 26th seems to be the likely release date for Attack the Block on BD and DVD. Thrilled they seem to be making a double play of this one.

This is a hasty bit of nonsense and if you really pressed me, I'd have to admit I've only done it to help sort my muddled mind. I might as well share it with you.

This is by no means exhaustive and relies upon the goodwill and happily over-excited realms of Twitter.

Incongruous though this may seem, Joe spoke to the lads at TALKRadio which you can listen to here.

I'd imagine This Morning will cover Attack the Block on Thursday, 12th May. If it's live rather than a pre-record, it will herald yet another stupidly long and busy day for Joe and the team.

Joe Cornish, Nick Frost and John Boyega will be signing posters costing £10 at Forbidden Planet (Megastore!) between 5:30pm & 6pm on 12th too.

At 7pm on Thursday, 12th the Apple Store in Regent Street will host a discussion in their Meet the Filmmakers strand featuring Joe Cornish and Nick Frost. It's a strange old venue for these things and the brightness of the store makes projecting the footage almost worthless but you'll get to sniff the Frost and Balls and they could well be quite rank by then.

Richie McCormack recorded an interview with Joe today. It's up at the Phantom 105.2 website now.

Next Monday evening around 10pm, Orla Barry will have her interview with Joe. You can listen back to the show here.

Edith Bowman will roll out her interview with Joe and Nick on the weekend of 21/22nd May 2011. She's a bit tardy with it because she didn't want it to get lost in their Big Weekend thing.

Unaccustomed as I am to sensationalism: Exclusive Attack the Block Interview with Joe Cornish

Incredible though this may seem, Joe Cornish has answered not some but all of Auntie Nubbins' ridiculous questions about Attack the Block.

Joe Cornish is two halves of directing and writing duo, Joe Cornish. His debut film, Attack the Block is a great big dollop of cinematic awesome and will receive it's UK premiere on Wednesday at the Vue, Leicester Square.

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of this (there's a falafel & pitta option if you're vegetarian), I should make a few things clear.

1) It has been well established over nearly two years of waffle on here, I am not a journalist. A proper journalist would probably edit their questions to make themselves sound better in hindsight but these are of the pure, vanilla form in which I tossed them to Joe.*
2) He was kind enough to do this via the internets. I have not sniffed his vapour. I do not have any connection with the man himself.
3) I sent the sweet genius a ton of stupid questions expecting him to pick a handful but he went and answered all of them. Some are sillier than others.
4) The questions were devised a couple of weeks ago during the moments of euphoria after having just seen the film. I could have put more thought into them but I didn't. (See point 1)
5) I was trying to pose many of them in the pretentious manner heard from one of those ponces you get at film festival Q & A's who are more intent on hearing their own voice and parading their encyclopaedic (albeit often shaky) knowledge of the questionees oeuvre than extracting or absorbing an answer.
6) The temptation to respond to some of his answers was overwhelming but the poor soul gave me enough of his time already.
7) Thank you. Thank you, Joe Cornish. Thornish.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS

AN: You've spoken publicly about the provenance of using Tom Townend as your DoP and the fact that your lovely producers tried to persuade you to use more heavyweight personnel. I'm only a silly but quite apart from the beautiful look he gives, surely Tom's experience in the anal retentive world of advertising and the kick, bollock & scramble of music video made him a truly pragmatic choice for this project. How much resistance did you actually encounter to securing him for the job and how many days into production was it before they (the producers) began to relax?

JC: It is not true that my lovely producers tried to dissuade me from using Tom Townend as DOP on Attack The Block. On the contrary, they were and are extremely supportive of everything I wanted to do, they merely cautioned me that using a comparatively less experienced (in terms of features) DOP would be a harder sell to the investors. In truth, as soon as everyone met Tom and saw his work, they were immediately as convinced as I was that he was the man for the job. I feel very lucky that Tom agreed to work on ATB. I think he's a genius.

AN: There are actors whom, for my own pleasure and satisfaction, I keep a gentle eye on as they leave drama school and by some wicked coincidence both Jodie and The Treadaways number among them. I now have a new slew of tiny talent tots to bother about. John Boyega seems like a remarkable young man but do you envisage that the other young actors, those garnered more from street casting, will pursue this as a career now?

JC: None of the main young cast members in Attack The Block were 'street' cast. They had all at least shown interest in acting at school, or been involved in some kind of drama or theatre group on a local level. Most of them were around 16 or so when we shot the film and I couldn't be prouder of them. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if any or all of them pursue acting as a career. I wish them all the success in the world.

AN: Forgive me for not paying enough attention to every little precious detail but the track you wrote and performed.....where is that in the film? What was it called, Bing Bong or something? I should say, you rate A+ on my does-the-score-fit-the-end-credits-o-meter and the entire sound design was flippin' amazing to my ears and my eyes.

JC: That'll be 'Baked Beats'. We kind of ran out of money for music towards the end of post production, so I put something together myself one weekend to play in the background of a scene. I'm not going to tell you which scene, for no other reason than to be gratuitously mysterious.

I'm very glad you liked the sound design. We spent an extra couple of bonus weeks working on the creature noises and the overall mix to refine everything. There's a hell of a lot going on in terms of audio, and we had to work hard to make sure all the different elements punched through clearly.

AN: There's a 1980's Habitat mug in Ron's flat that matches the wallpaper in the very first kitchen I owned. Did you chose any props because of specific sentimental values?

JC: That mug would have been chosen by Marcus Rowland and one of his crack team of mug selectors. I didn't put any trinkets on the set myself. I guess the personal sentimental value in the film for me is in the locations where we shot it; streets that I've known since I was a kid.

AN: You've said the creature was partly inspired by the silhouette of your childhood family cat but there's a touch of the Sasquatch in there too, isn't there? I know it's a quadruped but even so.

JC: Yes. Of course. Bigfoot guides my hand in all I do. And also the illustration on the side of the Space Invaders arcade cabinet. And the American Werewolf in London werewolf.

AN: Hitting the ground running with all those weeks of night shoots, did you manage to maintain a balanced diet at all times and have a ready supply of clean underkecks?

JC: I had one can of Coke a day. And quite a lot of Froggos**. We had a craft services van that made very tasty hot panninis with pesto and salami and cheese. 'Youwannapannini?' was an on-set catchphrase. And yes, my underkecks are always clean. Genuine Calvin Klein. Fresh today.

AN: I notice I'm not being quite as obsequious as a proper journalist's agenda would dictate. You know that's just because any fawning I did would have little currency coming from me, wouldn't it? Did you have any press junket coaching and quote brainstorming? (Please don't use the term 'needle drop' in your answer here, thank you x).

JC: No, no junket coaching or quote brainstorming. But I've been the interviewer in junket situations once or twice when presenting Radio 4's film show Back Row. And as I've discovered, making a film necessitates the discussion of every element in great depth many times with many different people so, by the time the thing's finished, one's opinions are already fairly well formed.

AN: You've cited some 137 films that have influenced your creation of Attack the Block. Did you dream this list up in hindsight as you gradually began to understand where all this stuff had come from or did you sit in a laboratory and study every film ever made before you even put pen to paper?

JC: I knew before I started writing what kind of a film I wanted to make, so I watched movies that I loved that I thought had a similar tone or style, both before and while I wrote. Those are the movies I mention as having influenced it.

AN: Brian Dowling was your construction coordinator. How important was to you to include a reality show winner? Were you hoping some of his post Big Brother success might rub off on you?

JC: We really wanted handyman Craig Philips, winner of season one. But obviously he's in huge demand shecuring (not a typo) shelves internationally, so we couldn't get him. Brian is less good at DIY, but as you say, it's important to have some kind of Big Brother winner around at all times.

AN: There are only a few films that can genuinely sustain the excesses of two hours or more running time but Attack the Block is a gratifyingly compacted into the ideal viewing length or 'lavvy to cola consumption ratio', if you will. Were you always working to that or did some minor character studies get nuked in the Amos-olator suite? Were there any constructive editorial interventions from the grown-ups?

JC: I always wanted to make a 90 minute film. It was in my director's statement which came with the script when we were raising the finance. That we came a few minutes under is merely the result of twisting the tap a couple of turns tighter in the edit just to keep things as lean and mean as possible, which was always the idea.

AN: Are you happy to talk about the additional shooting you did towards the end of last year? Was this footage you'd hoped to achieve during principal photography but could only be funded once the purse had seen the spectacular bang you were putting together.......or did you get that awful sinking feeling in the cutting room when you realised the narrative was compromised by the lack of a scene or two. Or did Boggins do a little wee on the neg?

JC: All feature films shoot pick-ups if they possibly can. It's a standard part of the process. Small, essential elements that you didn't have the time or resources to get during the main shoot. Some pretty memorable shots in the history of cinema are pick-ups. The severed head popping out of the wreck in 'Jaws' was shot months after principal photography in the producer's pool. The shot of the Terminator's eye being crushed at the end of 'The Terminator' was shot months later in someone's garage. We did one or two bits and bobs, but nothing that interesting. And Boggins was kept WELL AWAY.

AN: I set myself the unenviable but ultimately rewarding task of avoiding all the clips and trailers until I'd seen the film for the first time. The teasing started very early in relation to the release date in the UK and I know you appreciate the joy of coming to a film completely cold. Do you have mixed feelings about the amount of advance media out there?

JC: Not really - though I admire your ambition. There's a lot more to the film than the trailer suggests, and we've been careful to pick clips from early in the story. It's a competitive market and we've got to try and make a bit of noise. Optimum are doing a brilliant job I think.

AN: How did you feel when you realised the art department had cocked up with the spelling of Wymondham Tower?

JC: Much less confused than I do by that question.

AN: You did a stunning photo session with Pal Hansen. Did you discuss the concept for it at any length or was that entirely Pal's idea which you played along with like a silly dolly?

JC: Pal was a very persuasive and charming man. It was all from his brainium. He brought along that mysterious melty substance. So, the silly dolly answer.

AN: Would I be right in thinking there's not an aliens chance in South London of the OST hitting the shops anytime soon?

JC: Happily you're wrong. The score will be available both physically and digitally, pretty soon I hope.

AN: Have your Mummy and Daddy seen it? Have you levelled with them about being like Brewis?

JC: Yes my parents have seen the film. Plus they've seen all four series of The Adam and Joe Show and listened to the vast majority of my radio output and they raised me. I have few secrets from them, if any.

AN: Will you get some 'proper' shoes for the premiere?

JC: Probably not.

AN: Will I be numbing my arse on the cobbles of Somerset House this Summer to see it again?

JC: I can but dream of such a thing.

AN: Can I have a crew jacket/hoodie thang....or a poster.....or a tickle.......or a punch?

JC: I don't have a poster myself yet. We've run out of ATB hoodies. And the tickle and punch are only available in a twin pack...

AN: I think you've said that Edgar Wright had a brilliant idea for a sequel but you're savvy enough to realise that probably shouldn't be your next directorial outing. Do you have any particular aspirations for your second stab in terms of genre and would you shoot someone else's script if it was good enough? Will you go out of your way to make sure most of the action takes place in daylight this time?

JC: Yes, yes and not telling.

AN: Ant-man blah, blah, blah?

JC: mumble mumble avoid question cough

AN: Do you have a ready supply of Caramac? My cash & carry sells them in bulk.

JC: Am off Caramacs at the moment. Am enjoying an 'Oh Henry' or two these days.

AN: ....just in case you've been l o n g i n g for someone to ask this:

So there it is. I'm happy to say he answered all the questions absolutely correctly so he is completely entitled to his soon to be dispatched bucket of WIN!

I think this is something along the lines of what a proper fan-site might put together but in my case it will be a lumbering list of links that I shall attempt to update as and when the mood takes my flighty, little brain.

Nothing in here for nearly a month and then there are two in quick succession. The last post was done in haste and I missed some of the nonsense I'd been storing up. This is going to be a ditheration of bothery-pops for which I can only apologise.

Starting with some callbacks from items covered in my last post: Kimika rendered her impression of the 'Smarties make me naughty' kid, Aislinn made a Denny Different drawing and the BBC started a Twitter Account for the radio show. Don't hold your breath, bless 'em.

The very talented Sally Grosart made some special Easter Adam and Joe Paper Men for the weekend. I made my versions during the show yesterday.

I saw a bit of Stephenage on my local newstand that made me chuckle.

Somebody called Higgins0421 made this little Jonathan Creek Remix with sound clips from the radio show.

Adam went to see Derren Brown when he brought his show to Norwich. It seems they had a lovely, relaxing lunch together.

I'm thinking that the airing of Adam's appearance on Matt Lucas' "And the Winner Is" will probably be 10pm on Saturday, 7th May.

On 1st June at 8:45pm he will be doing a BUG Moby Special and there's a chance to interact with some Moby music in a competition. You can find all the details here. I do recommend BUG Specials most highly. Tickets will go on sale at the beginning of May as per the usual BFI policy.

Adam has been confirmed for yet another year down the road at his local summer festival. He usually takes a Sunday lunchtime/early afternoon slot (17th July) at Latitude with his BUG show but don't hold me to it. There's something about the way this is written that implies he may be doing his own comedy show either instead of the BUG or as well as.

On Saturday, 23rd July Adam will be giving an afternoon BUG show at The Bristol Comedy Garden. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

As I write, Slack Squadron are enjoying a lovely Sunday afternoon listening to the iPlayer in force and placing yesterday's show at #1 in the Most Popular Radio list.

They reside in second position for the iTunes Chart which is sadly, a slip down from their King of Pods title over the last three weeks. IF you felt the need to unsubcribe and then subscribe again to restore their crown, I'm sure nobody would think the worse of you but DO save the older pods in case you lose them.

If you're a fan of Shaun W Keaveny you'll be a fan of Jake so you might like to read this. With the help of long-faced and sexy Matt plus the occasional interlude from Andrew Collins, there is no finer way to start your day.

The Attack the Block cast has been all over the press corp. There's a lovely energy about this snap taken by NintendoTV. I'll be putting a full Attack the Block media page together soon and if you're in any doubt about how wonderful this young cast is, take a look at this chucklesome tweet from the lovely fella who plays Moses:

It's not as if there's been nothing to talk about but I haven't had a spare moment.

The return of the Adam and Joe 6Music Show has been phenomenally successful. Jo Good was positively squealing with excitement as she counted down the minutes to their first show. Miranda Hart was looking forward to them. They were trending on Twitter by 10:20 am on 2nd April which must surely be the benchmark of success anyone would aspire to in this day and age(worldwide too). It was still trending forty minutes after the show ended. The Black Squadron command garnered more than 350 submissions and the Text The Nation topic was so loose it made a cassoulet of my brain. All around the world, a sense of joy popped in the hearts of even the most jaded listener.

The show has gained a resident artist, James Hood whose Black Squadron picture is plastered on one of the webcams for the duration of the command. James is a fine gentleman but he seems to have a distorted, Hall of Mirrors view on life. He is summarising each weeks' show in a picture that Lucy will be posting on the blog.
He also provided a glorious banner for the main, grown-up BBC website for the beginning of the week.

The team were ceremoniously greeted by welcome bunting, forged in the creative foundry of two dedicated and beloved fans. You can read a little more here. I kept an eye on the webcam all week and the banner endured until sometime while Radcliffe & Maconie were on air from Manchester, the following Thursday.

We were promised a podcast by Sunday but frankly, we've been promised things before. However, in the actual event, the lovely production team gave us the cherry on the cupcake by 7pm on Saturday! Not only that, by soon after 9pm it was riding the crest of the iTunes podcast waves with the number one trophy in the main chart! For some dubious reason, iTunes list the episode chart first, with the main chart underneath. It seems that confused poor Buckles and he had the notion that they were only the top of the comedy podcast chart. This isn't the case. It is definitely the main chart (they are still there as I write) unless the 'Play of the Week' and 'Five Sport' suddenly became hilariously edgy.

Knocking Mr Gervais from the spire of the individual episode chart has proved more difficult but they did spend a while in the second position. This week, the Radio4 Friday night comedy show has given hope to knocking Ricky off but we're not there yet, despite the enduring banner and featuring efforts.

No matter, the main thing is the Adam and Joe podcast is King of UK Pods and has not faltered from that position since two hours after the first one was cast. It should also be noted, such is the dedication and excitement of their following, that they hurtled up the chart to position two in anticipation before the first one had even been released.

I could mumble on about the show for hours but you wouldn't be here if you hadn't listened to them all yourselves so I'll spare you. I'm not one for favouritism, as you know but so far my favourite bits were when Joe got upset but couldn't rant on air so had Adam do it for him. It's the fracture in Adam's voice and the gentle cues from Joe that crack me up. The Brian Cox/Toffee link pleasured me on so many levels. The genius of "Smarties Make Me Naughty" shows all the signs of becoming a meme, judging by the response if you put it into a Twitter search. Of course, I am also loving the lizzard tales from the podcast and the Sandwich Conspiracy (the town of Sandwich is in Kent, Old England, Joe).

As I think I mentioned in earlier posts, Adam has announced BUGs in both Manchester and Norwich along with the regular London shows and I believe there may be some standing tickets still available for the Sod Cancer gig in which he will appear at the end of the month. The team ran in the Marathon at the weekend. If you can't attend the gig, please give a few of your pennies here.

The Buckular highpoint of April so far was his Technical Meltdown at the BFI. He put so much care into the show (it seemed to me) including the helmet cam, audience calmer film of his cycling journey from wherever he had been staying, right up to the doors of NFT1. I wanted to pop right out of my disguise and give him a hug for putting that together. He did the first half hour completely in character as Famous Guy, there. I'm going to be honest and say that he had hitherto not been my favourite character but seeing him properly live was a treat and a privilege. I am duly converted to his sublime delights. Adam would describe the rest of the show as being his usual format of playing some of his films and singing along to them, then playing other people's films followed by reading comments from the You Tube community. I've seen him do both these things many, many times but this night's show had a different edge to it. There was so much heart and a different kind of intimacy in the way he was working with the audience. It was utterly splendid.

Joe hasn't been idle either, try as he might to grab a snooze on the sofa or even a holiday. I shall probably make a lumbering great post about all the online Attack the Block media I have been collecting but the hard copy stuff is coming through at quite a pace now.

Little White Lies is bi-monthly so you still have some time to seek out a copy in quality newsagents or Picturehouses cinemas and I cannot recommend it more highly. There is good stuff in the May issue of Empire too. You've missed your chance to get a copy of SFX with Jon Hamblin's lovely interview in the stores but I'm sure it's available digitally still. Other film and Sci-Fi mags are carrying stuff but frankly, it's more generic. I can't comment properly on the interview in Clint because I have yet to find a copy but there's a tempting taster here. Watch out for next issue of Dazed and Confused which should carry an interview by the deliciously exotic Limara Salt. There was also a gorgeous piece from The Guardian's Eve Wiseman in The Observer at the weekend. The photograph is stunning and I'd probably consider blu-tacking it to my bedroom ceiling for the image alone. The fact that Cornballs is the featured artiste just adds to the frisson.

The important but unspoilery stuff you might like to know about the film is that it has found US distribution via Screen Gems but I don't believe there is a release date at this early stage. If you want to absorb as much spoilerage as possible before seeing the actual film (why would you want to do that?) or are too immature to slide in under the 15 certificate wire, you can sate yourself with three trailers, two clips and five character profiles knocking around the web and a little Behind the Scenes featurette in various portals. The Attack the Block Facebook page should point you in the right direction but they seem rather tardy (tardier than me) at posting stuff. That said, they have three pairs of tickets to see the film tomorrow (Wednesday, 20th April) so do seek it out.

Joe gathered Luke Treadaway and John Boyega into his arms and lugged them to the first ever Kapow Comic Con. This was a real trial for me but video cameras were there so I hope to see their output available at some point closer to the release date. I gather some of that footage may pop up on the DVD that Joe is currently punching into submission somewhere in Soho. Apparently, it may include an on-set massage but that information may be spurious.

I've asked Joe, via a Facebook message, if he'd indulge me with a net-based interview about the film for this blog but he's been steadfast in his resolve to keep as far away as possible from a crazed old woman like me (I only asked him yesterday).

There were a couple of opportunities for mere mortals to see Attack the Block in advance of it's release date (11th or 13th May, depending upon where you live and how tenacious you are) but if you can get to the Ritzy in Brixton the hot ticket is for a chance see it on the previous Friday and be delighted by a Q & A with Joseph Murray Sexy Cornish afterwards.

I've maintained that I'd keep this blog going if I had nothing better to do and I'm not saying I don't enjoy it but I am really busy at the moment so I'll leave it here and perhaps return with more nonsense in a couple of days. I haven't included the level of linkage I would have liked but let's see how the day pans out.

Exclusive: Cornish wafers for Auntie Nubbins

The joy of Twitter is when it throws you a unexpected bone.

One day back in February, I made a cheery response to a lovely journalist, Jon Hamblin's missive about meeting Joe Cornish for an interview the next day and he said he'd give me some of what he didn't publish.

He is a gentleman and true to his word. He also has a rockin' style so I urge you to read the main content of this meeting in SFX Magazine and on his blog. The details are way down below.

Here's what he gave me. Thank you, Jon.

On when he knew he wanted to make movies:

“Well it was when I was twelve. I always wanted to make films. The first thing I ever did with Adam was directing the Super 8 films. We made a feature length Super 8 film when we were 14 or 15, that I directed and he starred in, so to speak. And I went to film school straight after leaving school, I spent three years at film school, just before Edgar actually, in Bournemouth and I trained as a writer/director and then I worked as a runner in the film industry in London for several years and then all the time I was making little silly comedy skits with Adam. And we got the opportunity to do Takeover TV and so that was really a sort of … you know, just a way to practice really and even though there was a huge difference between doing three minute sketches and sustaining something for 90 minutes, it’s very good practice just churning stuff out.”

On Attack the Block, was there a moment where you thought: “What am I doing?”

“There’s lots of moments like that. There was never a why am I doing this moment but making a film is very frustrating not because the people around you aren’t brilliant and doing amazing work but because if you are ambitious you’ve spent years wanting it and imagining it and trying to get what would be the perfect thing to do and then when you are actually doing it, it is like a flipping trolley dash. It’s like you have got four seconds to execute an idea that you formulated over four years and nothing will be right. It will be raining, you know, something will break, the location will be a bit different, someone will be tired, you know what I mean? And sometimes you just have to think of a totally different way to do it because of that you haven’t anticipated or that you can’t control. So it’s this weird juxtaposition of – oh my god, this is my amazing chance – and shit where did you get this! Do you know what I mean? So that’s what is terrifying but exciting as well and, you know, every first time director, everyone around you has made more films than you. So the trick is not to be a pot which is hard for me and just really engage and get the support of and harness all the superior talent that’s around you to help you overcome those problems because everyone around you is … that’s what it’s about, it’s about troubleshooting that stuff and everyone around you has more experience. Especially in this film because we’ve got explosions and monsters and its all set at night and there’s weapons and actions and chases and so it’s not the King’s Speech, if you know what I mean.”

About Basement Jaxx’s score:

“Basement Jaxx are fantastic and what’s great about them is they are Brits and they are South London guys and they are originals. The club is about two roads away from where we filmed and where I grew up. But they are clever enough to know that they serve the film and it’s not about … they serve the film … everything is about telling the story and presenting the characters. There is not going to be this big rave explosion. It’s got to serve the film. I thought what Daft Punk did was fantastic in Tron Legacy, but the best bit was in the club I thought and I have to say I thought: “Why are computer programs drinking, and why do they go to a club?” For every bit that I enjoyed it, I also had a lot of question marks in my head, personally. Even though it was an amazing spectacle.”

Making the film in Brixton:

“We were shooting in South London on rural South London streets and we were staging a mugging, and we were shooting in proper little urban areas around the Myatts Field Estate which is quite a, if you believe what the papers say, notorious estate but actually it’s lovely, not architecturally, but it is lovely round there.

So we were staging a mugging and a group of genuine local “yout” came up to our actors, to our boys, and said "What are you guys filming?" And they’d heard about the film because we’d put letters through everyone’s doors. And they said "Where are you from?" to our boys, like, quite a little bit threateningly and our lead boy said "Oh, I'm from Peckham" and the other kid said "Oh, I’m from Elephant and Castle", and the local youth looked a little bit put out because they were local. "Oh we thought they were going to bring in some stage school, you know, idiots, to come and pretend to be local youth," they said. And then they looked our kids up and down and said, "Alright – but you rob that woman hard" – and left. And that was it, we never saw anybody ever again, we got left totally alone. Haha!”

No Sir, No Talk of Attack the Block Here At All*

The day after the announcement that the 6Music Adam And Joe Show was to return for twelve weeks in April, Lauren interviewed them on her show. It might just be me but I felt they pretty much phoned it in. Apparently "Stephen!" started trending on Twitter during the interview.

Andrew Collins made an enjoyable blog entry when 6 Music were finally in a position to put an end (albeit a sad one) to all these months of uncertainty. Even Jonny Greenwood expressed his joy and Miranda Sawyer can't wait.

Adam made a couple of blog entries, encouraging a bit of listener participation so please do your duty.

Spoonfed spoke fondly of The Union Chapel where Adam played earlier this month.

If you're a regular reader of this blog (and why would you have enough time to do that?), you'll know that the techno-sprites put the screws on Adam's recent gig at the Tabernacle which prompted him to foolishly offer a free show to anyone who was cheeky enough to lie about feeling in some way short-changed. True to his word, he's doing a special show on 7th April at the BFI followed by a third BUG24 show in recognition of the oversubscription to the BUGs this week. These shows are also sold out because Adam is probably the most consistently largest revenue generator at the Poncey Benugo Cinema Complex.

These podchancers were obliged with a special jingle from Adam (at around 11 minutes in).

The most gravitas holding item in this post is my rather tardy discovery that the short film Adam starred in, Little Face has been on YouTube for months now. If you're a casting director and you have hitherto only considered Adam for in-your-face comedy, I hereby dubb you Idiothole Supremo. This man has range. Use it.

Joe joined Edgar in LA on the pretext of doing some Ant-man writing but he was just there for the latest New Beverly season and some utter silliness. As recently as 17th March, Joe was still there.

Here's some stuff that's not about Attack The Block from Jon Hamblin's interview with Joe and I'm very happy to say that in the not-too-distant future, I shall bring a little more Hamblin goodness onto this very blog with his generous permission.

Imbalanced Blog Entry about Attack the Block

I'm not sure if anybody even notices but I do try to maintain an equipoise to my blogposts. It's not been easy over the past year with Adam being so charmingly accessible and Joe maintaing his haughty air of mystery but I like to think I've rarely mentioned one without the other.

The alien/hoodie lovestorm which took place in Texas over the last couple of weeks simply poleaxed me into a stupor of non-blogitude but I can't ride that colloid hydrogel forever so here's a lot of stuff about Joe's film. In a short while, I'll do something that barely mentions the elusive thing.

If you're new to this nonsense, I need to mention that I'm a spoiler-phobe and any review of Attack the Block I might link here is executed with the confidence I have in the source rather than an appraisal of the actual content. Furthermore, my decision to not capitalise 'the' in the film's title is not the product of an intimate discussion with the director. It just pleases my eye and softens the menace. Deal with it.

Deep respect to the tweeters who look after the British Independent Film Awards account for being right up there at the front with their Follow Friday last month.

Optimum Releasing are distributing this renagade capsule and I shall continue to praise them until they put my arse on a seat with a good view. They have programme notes and a link to another file with an extension name of .docx.docx.docx which immediately made an independently remote-functioning synapse of my brain mumble "Basement Jocx. ocx. ocx" but no matter. Said link will give you all the trailers in all the colours and all the sizes.

It would be rude to mention Optimum without including a link to Film4 and their latest article, without whose input this film would have been made on an even tighter budget, with far less red in it and virtually no ten minute 'specials' on their digital tv channel.

I'm going to say I am finding the marketing hoopla a bit of a conundrum and particularly testing.

More than two months before the film's release, the director himself was awkwardly plonked on the Film 2011 sofa in a position that required him to swing his neck back and forth like an umpire at Wimbledon. I mean, he was already being sick in his mouth before he got there. I am told that these clips were aired during the show.

That same day, in a 75 seater basement room in Soho, selected members of the press were embargoed right up and over the area.

With a click of his heels, Joe skidded out of Television Centre and onto a Los Angeles bound 'plane to join Edgar Wright for quality procrastination.

On the morning prior to the first public screening, The Hollywood Reporter broke the first of many trade paper missives. I'm particularly heartened to note their praise for young John Boyega.

The next weekend finally brought the premiere at South By Southwest in the Alamo Drafthouse and I straddled the delicate chasm between needing to know that Joe wasn't going to land in a crumpled heap and yet not absorbing any film specific information. I caught photos from people who watched the intro and links to Q & As that I'm still too resolved in unspoilerdom to watch properly. Here he is sporting his best hands on hips look that he probably learnt during his brief modelling career in Japan. There's another shot here.

Charles Gant's piece for Variety was the first review to hit the nets after the screening had finished. In fact, it was linked about twenty minutes before it went live immediately after the screening. It's behind a paywall.....one of the easiest paywalls to negotiate on the net but I didn't tell you that.

I'm not going to list too many more review links because Big Talk have collected the good ones on their post-premiere news page. Catherine Shoad at The Guardian has a view but all you really want to know is what Charlie thought of it. There's some more good reading stuff in here.

HeyUGuysBlog filmed the intro and the Q & A. I did some sneaky dipping and with a pointer to the time marker, I'm pleased to say there was some Stephenage in Austin!

The IFC streamed interview (including the trailer at the start of part two) is here and Dread Central have a video interview here.

The praise went on all week, up to and beyond the screening on Wednesday. Finally, the film was voted as the audience's favourite Midnighter.....and before you tell me it was a small strand of the festival, it was rammed full of films everyone is waiting to see.

In Other More Standard Film Release Info News:
The BBFC have given Attack the Block a '15' certificate and although it only lists the two minute trailer, a shorter tv spot has aired on E4 as well.
It would be weird if I didn't include the trailer, wouldn't it?

The poster looks like the kind of thing worth investing in a double-sided and a big old light box for as Slash Film broke (or should that be 'Forward Slash'?)

Before the film had even come back from Snappy Snaps the rumour of a US remake or at the very least, subtitles was manufactured by lazy types with too much time on their hands. Whatever it takes to deliver the thing to an audience will work but how real is this actual threat in the first place?

The News in Brief

The Admirals of Idiocy are returning for at least 12 weeks from the beginning of April and it's not just wishful thinking on the part of lovely James....a parchment has floated down from the castle ramparts.

Is this Adam doing the latest Wrigley's campaign? Was this what she meant?

Joe talked to Total Film about his fractional contribution to the creation of Tintin.

The BBC Comedy microsite has released the third instalment of Country Man.

Joe's little Attack The Block hobby has a website, a Twitter account and a Facebook page. The trailer is expected any day now so follow, like and sign in there for updates. Some promo stuff was shot here last month.

Adam is doing a gig this weekend at a really lovely venue in Islington. His two shows at the Leicester Comedy Festival got some lovely responses on Twitter and Squadron member, Simon grabbed him for a bit of signatory and forgery action. He was also available for amateur papping too.

Joe was spotted on the tube a couple of times last week which means he's not toning his body on his bicycle any more in the hopes that his gym ones might be used in a Twilight film but on the other hand he's not quite haughty enough to use a Hummer. Something tells me he has had quite an influence on some of the younger members of his ATB cast.

I'm sure you've all found Adam's latest YouTube upload. There's another Buxton shaped gem out there but in the interest of balance, I'm going to save that link until Joe's little film trailer pops out.

Don't forget that SFX Magazine is out on 9th March and it will hopefully contain Jon Hamblin's interview with Joe. Not to mention the Attack The Block edition of Little White Lies due in the shops next week too.

Attack The Block World Premiere news

Attack the Block will hold it's World Premiere at SXSW in March, 2011

I'm almost a day tardy with this if you don't follow my Twitter feed but hey, I'm good deal closer to the area than usual.

South By Southwest is a very cool festival that started so small in the music capital of Texas and grew into one of the most coveted markets at which to be presented and to attend. Duncan Jones' Source Code is opening the festival with it's own world premiere. It'd be nice to think the Big Talk team will be in town to rock along to that too.

I'm not entirely sure of the process involved with achieving this but I'm going to go with the notion that what the organisers have seen of Attack The Block must have impressed them considerably to schedule it like this as one of their Midnighters. Whilst I momentarily comfort my broken soul that I can't afford be there, I'm heartened by the thought that it will get some amazing exposure and buzz that could lead to a speedier worldwide success than might have originally been planned. At the moment, that thrill is outweighing any gloomy idea that it will make Joe even less accessible and available for secret radio station noodling.

It's also doing the Markets at Berlinale this week.

Spare a little thought for me and my endeavours to view this film with as little pre-cog as possible. I anticipate an overload of information from this and you'll have to forgive me if I don't pass all of it on and comment about it. I'd also appreciate it if people didn't direct spoilers at me. I know I can't hope to sustain this for the entire two months between SXSW and the UK release date but I'm going to try my best. That said, there's a sweet SXSW blog here.

Of course, I don't mind reading stuff like this piece from The Guardian about street casting.

Cornish is a big fan of street casting. "You're casting unknowns because you want an authenticity that a professional actor may in fact find it harder to give; you want their realness," he says. "They told us as much about the script as we could tell them. They advised us on costume, on language; we used them as a kind of resource to make sure the film was credible to people of their age."

Whilst on the subject of cast, I hope you're catching the beautiful Jodie Whittaker in Marchlands on ITV at the moment.

John Boyega is in a Red Button offshoot of Being Human playing a bully called Danny Curtis.

Franz Drameh was caught on video at the London premiere of Paul, namechecking Attack The Block and Leeon Jones was there too.

This lady got a "Just Coming" from Joe! I guess he was more prepared for it in a red carpet situation. Attack the Block is getting name checks from Nick as he tours with Paul.

One last bit of trivia: The editor of Little White Lies posed as a hoodie for the next issue.

This post was mainly intended as a joyous celebration of Joe's success but while I'm here, there are a couple of other things to mention.

Adam always seems to maximise his time when he's in the big city and on Wednesday he recorded an episode from the second series of Matt Lucas' "And The Winner Is". There's a picture of him with Matt and Rory Bremmer here but they could be anyone!

Adam did an amazing set at the Tabernacle last night for Feature Spot. His Photoshop went a bit wonkaloid and that led to the most hilarious, interactive madness which he handled beautifully, adding so much to the evening. John of BBC 6Music Blog designing fame and Basil rushed to his rescue but with his usual, adorable humility, he seemed to feel this had somehow lessened the value of the evening. He couldn't be more wrong. It made it very special. At one point he offered to refund £5 to everyone (which one unhelpful audience member suggested should be more like £7 - unfair because Jonny Sweet and The Persuassionists' own Nick Mohammed were very good value) but settled with the offer of a gratis show for anyone who left their email address on his table. Without exception, I am sure everyone thought it was an exceptionally brilliant night but the offer of a freebie and another chance to see Buckles was too much to pass up so lots of people left scraps of paper on his table.

The hilight of the evening was Adam's perfectly rendered, live musical précis of Black Swan for anyone who can't spare the time to go and see it. I do hope more people get the chance to see him do this. I'm sure he'll try to squeeze into the Leicester BUG. He also did the "wot is buk" reading that I missed from BUG23 so my life was complete.

Several minutes past curfew the crowd also persuaded him to do a live version of his RATATOUILLE (THE RAT CONTROL THE COOK.

Do you remember Adam and Joe's interview with GETS! man, Dandy Sakano in Go Tokyo? Of course you do. For some reason that only the Consultants of Comedy can reveal, he is relaunching his career in Dundee because it erm, sounds like his name.

This post wouldn't be complete without a bit of off-piste nonsense so here's a bit about Edgar Wright buying the "S" from the Somerfield in Wells. He also accepted a banana for directing a film.

A Bird in the Hand is Worth a Delay in The Block

One of these days, I will be committed enough to update this blog on either a regular basis or at least on a day when I have some headline news to kick it off with. Sadly, today is not one of those days and this post is simply an effort to tidy up my Saved Links drawer, as it were.

In a desert of Adam and Joe freshness, the two bits of information that could realistically be classed as news since my last post are that as far as I can tell, Adam has agreed to be in the line-up for the Sod Cancer charity gig in the Bloomsbury Theatre at the end of April and the release date for Attack the Block seems to have moved on to Friday, 13th May 2011. I dunno if anyone at Frostitution wants to note that. Optimum and Big Talk are still not updating.

Don't forget that Issue 34 of Little While Lies will contain Attack the Block features and with any luck, Jon Hamblin's interview with Joe should turn up in the April issue of SFX Magazine. Both these publications should hit the shelves within a few days of each other. If I wasn't such a self-deprecating dullard, I'd try to do an email interview with the blighter myself.

While I'm in the area, ATB's Jodie Whittaker has been talking about Marchlands, which started on ITV last night. ATB's beautiful producer won an ENVY award last month.

This lovely man is writing a song a week to put on YouTube. Follow and encourage him here. Naturally, he needed a visual element and he approached Adam with a request to submit a picture of a bird. With all due respect and I may be ridiculously biased but I think Adam's was the most enjoyable response he got.

I presume everyone caught up with Adam's romantic trip to the Maldives. This picture was in the hard copy but not on-line.One Guardian reader thinks he should have his own column.

As I write, there are still tickets for next week's Tabernacle gig and a couple of seats available for Adam's Röyksopp BUG Special but I think you'll have to phone. More details about the event here and here.

Shots also published an interview with him which for the moment, I have put here. The most exciting news contained therein must surely be about the proposed BUG Specials in Edinburgh and Manchester.

BUG 23 has been and gone but there's a nice little summary here. A few miles down the road, David Byrne was on stage after a glorious screening of his film. It saddened me a little to think that Adam couldn't be there. I suspect there was the biggest gathering of Twitsquadroners thus far for the BUG Director's Cut the following week.

Since my last post, a couple of 6Music items have been bubbling around. First of all, and I would imagine as no surprise, it seems the website will will no longer exist as quite the treasure trove it more recently proved to be. Perhaps Adam has more influence over Thommo than he might imagine as it may transpire that his wish to abolish webcams has been noted and acted upon.

Furthermore, the spring schedule has been discussed but the biggest news there is the acquisition of Mr Radcliffe who will join his chum, Mr Maconie as they transfer their Radio 2 show over to our own, exclusive and secret station. Nemone's maternal condition makes way for the pairing as she transfers to the weekend breakfast show and I guess Lauren will liberate the wonderful Huey Morgan from his current six day week schedule during the next couple of months if her telly commitments don't exhaust her.

A little bit of international squadronage here. The lovely Jennifer drove through some beautiful scenery with Adam and Joe for company.

6 Music are responsible for endless joy in my life. Take a listen to Beardyman's visit with Huey this week. I don't think I would have fully appreciated Metronomy without 6Music and they have offered the first single from their upcoming album for total frees here. This is surely the best Alan Partridge episode yet.

There's been the odd grumble around the net that this film rips off what Adam does. I guess it's possible that the author is aware of Adam's work and style but this is entertaining stuff and it was put together with a degree of care that few of us would be prepared to apply. Give the guy a break.

Sometimes I notice tweets along the lines of 'Adam and Joe did this ages ago but better'. They may well have done but audiences are constantly refreshing and renewing. Love them as I do, in real terms Adam and Joe have been tucked away in a relatively bijou niche for most of their professional lives thus far. I feel it's completely legitimate for others to be inspired enough by them to unconsciously or otherwise emulate them. If they happen to be of the kind of profile that enjoys a wider audience, that can only be good for everyone.

It's been a testing week for those of us with Attack The Block search alerts. One tiny, teeny little tweet sent the machine into the far reaches of the blogalaxie and it returned to our atmosphere with all kinds of space junk. I won't link anything. There are lengthy paragraphs out there based entirely upon these few words:

It would seem that Basement Jaxx and Stevie Price are in charge of the score which should be a wickles solution.

On 30th December, the beautiful Ritzy Cinema hosted a screening of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, introduced by Edgar Wright and he came back for a Q & A afterwards. There are some pictures here with thanks to James Kent. One can only imagine he spent the interim period watching telly and snacking on Caramac round at Joe's house because the silly, long fella snuck in to get a taste of what it might be like when he has to do the same.

Edgar also hosted a pre-recorded 6Music show on New Year's Day. For some of it, he was joined in the studio by his blood and ice-cream chums, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. Even three of them couldn't fill the links on their own so they called the professionals. The professionals were too hung-over to help so they had to get Joe on the phone. You can hear the resulting bed-bound waffle here. I can't be arsed to look but if you were interested, I'm sure you'd find some kind of fan portal that has preserved the entire show for your enjoyment. It was ruddy good.

Lewis King made a Spotify list for many of the tracks played.

Last night, Edgar implied that he might get writing on the final part of his trilogy but a couple of days earlier, Ant-man was on his mind.

The Incredible Suit is looking forward to Joe's film. I couldn't work out a pattern for the order he put these films in so I can only suppose it's relative to the amount of excitement generated in his suit. Otherwise they're in dry cleaning ticket sequence which would amount to the same thing, probably.

If you're near any of these venues and can catch this short you'll be treated to a little bit of Adam's voice. There are no less than five showtimes at Sundance. If Adam gets going with his Twitter account again, perhaps we can ask him a bit more about it. It was directed by the awesome Meebox credit maker, David OReilly.

There's an additional BUG Röyksopp Special on Feb 11th though it's all but sold out. There will be more tickets released nearer the time and it should be a wickles night with Röyksopp DJing in the Benugo Bar afterwards. Don't forget to check for gig info here.

It would seem Adam may have found somewhere warm to take the family over the festive break. This was posted in Adam's YouTube comments which he has to sanction so I presume he's happy putting this info out there.
We can only imagine how many diseases he contracted and issues he dealt with during the flight and his stay. In the old days, he would have spread that kind of information out over six or seven 6Music links and probably built a Text The Nation topic around one of the saucier events.

Whilst on the subject of Adam going on holiday, don't forget to keep an eye out for the Guardian in a couple of weeks.

There are still 18 podcasts up at 6Music although I thought they were only going to be around for 30 days. They have kept Adam and Joe bobbing around in the top 10 comedy episodes for a couple of weeks.

The Christmas Day show, Black Squadron Command and a Twitter flurry

As we brushed away the messy crumbs left in the grate by the big guy in the cola costume, a brace of idiotholes regaled us with tales of joy and woe, love and minor annoyance, besties and worsties, if you will. Gifts were exchanged before our very ears and the cocktail cabinet was prised open. Twiglets were audibly chomped and firecrackers were lit. Apologies for confusions and distresses caused were made. Declarations of intent were uttered.

I think I may be right in saying this was the first year in which no fatal damage was caused to any of the gifts exchanged. Despite a strong missive from Adam about the presents needing to be silly and not 'proper' Joe couldn't stifle his surprise when he opened something that appeared to be 'quite good' until Adam reassured him that it was, in fact, genuine rubbish.

If you are eager to re-enact this present exchange with one of your long-term comedy partners, I've made a little list of the items you'll need and an approximation of where to get them.

There are still a few days left to catch up on the iPlayer and the podcast will be around for about 30 days, apparently.

Rather than do one of my tediously laboured dissertations, I've decided to sum the show up in thirty seconds.

We were even given a Black Squadron Command this weekend which was "Tinsel Undies".
I am delighted for Adam and Joe because the small number of entries which actually made it into the gallery implies that they were rewarded with many enjoyable photos deemed far too saucy to display on the walls of the Castle.

It would be wrong for me to have favourites of course, but I do.

During our communal love-in the show peaked on the iPlayer in 14th place across the whole of BBC Radio. It retained a respectable position in the chart throughout Bank Holiday Monday as people arrived home and caught up with it.

It has been in first place on the 6Music list since a couple of hours after it went live. The podcast is floating around the 7 or 8 area in the iTunes Comedy episode chart.

Four squadron members had their jokes read out so we should have a quick roll call:

Erik O'Brien - aka SlabSquatThrust (MInt Spy) after whom Adam will name his next son.

Stephen Reilly - aka erm StephenReilly (Welsh pigeon) hit the hattrick with his tortured references.

Marge Gunderson - aka SongWarMonger (Manger Zone) whom, after being a regular contributor to Adam's Big Mixtape, now has the benefit of some made-up-joke coaching from Torpedo Commander Cornish.

Steve Wells (Stop the Carvery) has yet to make himself known via the Twitter - probably because Google reveals that this isn't the most original entry......but then, a couple of those others don't actually pass Cornball's usually rigorous testing.....and to think they could have read my hilarious(ly lame) submission.

Respectable notices of abstention were received from across the globe and our trusty PantoSquadron operative tweeted this shout out during his interval. You Go Girl!

It must have been torturous for followers of #TwitSquadron members either on Saturday morning or Sunday evening but we had fun linking our virtual minds and hands. The show was diverse and hilarious with great music and great chat, just like in the olden times.

Not a roundup of 2010 at all

The most important thing about this festive season is that Adam And Joe gathered in their festive shack to record a show to air on the morning of Christmas Day.

One could argue that it's been too long since I last updated this blog. All manner of nonsense has been going on but in this age of instant gratification (for those of us lucky enough) it seems redundant to repeat what I've already tweeted mere seconds after it happened.

I'd saved more than fifty links since my last post but happily, King Of Blogs and Count of Buckules made a lovely rounding-up sort of thingumy the other day as he battled with illness, saving me from going over all the really useful points. You're much better off reading that than this.

Well, if you must...........Sam shared a couple of pictures and a roundup of how the day went when he joined Adam and Graham Linehan for a bit of supporting artiste work on their pilot which apparently won't be aired.

Si Hawkins at the UK Comedy Blog persuaded Adam to answer a few questions around the time of the Song Wars Volume 2 release. Drowned in Sound had a piece here as did Culture Deluxe here.

You may like to bookmark this page on the fansite forum which aims to bring gig news as soon as it's made public. BUG 23 has a few seats left now but more will become available on the day(s). As you'll have read in his own blog, Adam had to cancel a couple of dates recently but both the Bristol and Kilburn venues have implied the shows will be rescheduled. The Tabernacle still have a show in February and Adam will return to the Leicester Comedy Festival again this year.

BUG 22 has been and gone and it happily coincided with the release of the Hammer and Tongs DVD so Garth & Nick came along for some viddy-chat. The beautiful Roo caught a lovely snap of them all on the stage.
I've made a couple of attempts to recreate something of the fun of a BUG night on here before but thanks to goodly enhancements to YouTube, the BUGmeisters themselves have been able to create this wonderous thing. PLEASE click on all the links, subscribe to it, favourite it and share it. It's a total joy and if they think it's a success, they'll do more of them. They really need to know they're not wasting their efforts so please take some time with this. If you start with the intro, the rest of the programme should follow on automatically.

Adam made a Celebrity Playlist for iTunes the other week. Think of it as his mixtape gift to you....that you have to pay for.

This may be a bit of stuff and nonsense but just in case it has any substance to it, I'll link it. This call for advertisers to buy space implies that the Weekend Travel section of The Guardian may cover Mr & Mrs Buxton renewing their wedding vows next month. Not sure when that might have actually happened, of course but I've been wearing a hat and shedding a tear every day since I read about it.

My other little blog has been giving daily links to the 6Music midnight broadcasts of the 12 Podcasts of Christmas shows on the iPlayer and their plundered podcast downloads so I hope you found them.
The Best of Adam's Big Mixtape Series One (I love the implications of typing that) are repeating from 26th December 2010 and I think the podcasts will plop into our boxes again. There are loads of Best Of Adam and Joe shows on 3rd January 2011.

The Guardian TV and Radio Blog takes any excuse to mention Adam and Joe. They go for it time and time and time again and again but this entry eloquently speaks for us all .

The Guardian Media Monkey is just as enthusiastic and Adam shared this photo with the Lifestyle section, showing Adam and Joe with Uncle Dave and Louis Theroux. I presume Adam's Mummy was doing some exotic dancing which distracted Louis when this was taken.

The Independent gave them a shout out today as well.

Attack The Block continues to be mentioned here are there. Britfilms have a proper page allocated now, as does Film Dates.

Jodie Whittaker was among an incredible cast for an episode of Jimmy McGovern's Accused and she gave an interview here.

Lots of bloggers and tweeters got excited when this still was made available for digital use, making a big deal of it finally being released even though it's the still Empire used in it's hard copy as far back as September.

For my part, I've given my Paper People Joe a little festive hoodie to wear on the tree.

Anyone who was lucky enough to attend the Ultra Culture Cinema Christmas Party would have walked away with a handy, pocket sized copy of Mr Lyne's review of 2010. I feverishly thumbed through the pages to check for a repeat of last year's inclusions and was rewarded with this piece from Joe. I can't remember if I put last year's page on here.....or indeed if it plopped onto the Ultra Culture website at some point ....don't think it did.

For fear of repetition, I've twisted* one of the pictures from the press kit by way of reminding everyone to pre-order Adam and Joe's Song Wars Vol 2 as soon as possible. Their waffle implies that the orders may be filled at home before the high street stores have even rattled up the loading bay door to accept their deliveries.

Last night, we found out that Robin Allender helped them negotiate those tricky recording rights issues for the Mind of a Pirate (Legal Version) by crafting a soundalike or maybe even some inspired original noodling.

I notice that the 'bonus track' is no longer included in the listing but let's just hope that's because it's 'hidden' and not simply because Joe couldn't be bothered to record Harvest Moon, after all.
Seriously, I'm sure both of our dreamboats put in many hours to cobble this pleasure platter together.

There's a nice mention about the album here. If I'm honest, I still take issue with the spelling of "Santum". I can see how it was arrived at but I think it should either retain the uniformity of having the "u" in there before the "a" or just go for the more phonetic "Sontum". I know Joe will have argued that the "u" might make it sound more like "swantum" but as it stands, it just looks like a plain. old, short vowel. After all, it's not how he spelt it for his little You Tube video, is it?** Cornballs will be delighting in this pronunciation v. spelling conundrum in a way that sets him apart from any other human I know. I am so happy to have got that off my heaving chest.

We don't have a date yet, but The Paradise Club looks like it's going to have a Buxty shaped visit soon, perhaps even next week. The lovely Shelley met with Adam last week and as if that wasn't treat enough, she scored the hat trick of dream meetings. Fingers crossed that it all works out. He may be joining the team on Wednesday but I just hope it's not the private event on Thursday.

He was also spotted at the ATP Spoon gig this week.Thankfully, nobody thrust a camera in his face while he was relaxing in his own time.

Friend Of The Show and superb deputiser, Garth Jennings will be joined by his film making partner on Nemone's 6Music show this Monday to promote their wonderful retrospective DVD. The trailer is presented by someone called Ken Korda.

As intimated during his on-stage grilling of Edgar Wright, Joe has been tickling his film into submission with some pick-up shots, if tweets like this are anything to go by. Meanwhile, alien film comparisons continue and that pursuit will only become more vigorous next year when others arrive.

There you go - the December (current) issue of Empire Magazine is a Tin Tin fest including a small contribution from Joe and his piece has a picture of himself looking like a proper, sexy grown-up and a picture of Hergé looking like Joe Cornish, comedian and all round idiothole.

I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here has started again but few people want to use the correct hashtag when they're clogging up my Twitter feed. I was prompted to post Joe's song but it didn't change anything.

Joe's Papa Johns ad (not his ad at all. He just did the voice over) is having an airing again with the promise of a special offer but not the kind any gourmet would be interested in. He has also been heard doing a v/o for Game on the telly but I have yet to catch that.

As soon as I have an iTunes link for Song Wars 2, I'll tweet it or blog it or mumble it under my breath in the middle of Oxford Street, or something.

I know the press release says they will return to 6Music soon and I had really hoped to have something more concrete to post about this but I am still treading cautiously until we get the official nod.

In other information-too-tardy-to-describe-as-news, Adam was invited to host the Vimeo Awards in New York so he managed to squeeze in some gigs as well. You can read his very own blog for more details of how it all went. The lovely, furry comedy pumpkin was so excited he blogged. three. times. about it. It's all I can do to stop myself from plopping some crass hearts emoticon in there.

Caroline Harstsell was kind enough to share a picture and so did Ben Collins while Twitter's Widow Spider brought us this.

This prompted me to have a poke around and I found Carrie Matthew's lovely photos from one of Adam's gigs at The 100 Club.

While I'm thinking about Adam's gigs, Catherine Bray's blog entry popped up too late for inclusion in my 6Fest post so I'm putting it here. Sadly, her companion dragged her away on some spurious food-based pretext before she could see Adam's main show but she caught the joyous raffle.

Sinister Dexter has a beautiful shot of Adam with John Shuttleworth from that same event.

To complete the 6Fest content, Adam was kind enough to customise and sign (including a forgery of Joe's name) a radio for a charitable Ebay auction. Some dementedly generous soul paid £ 223 for the lovely thing.

Adam has been so busy lately. He's no doubt been spending lot of time and consideration arguing with Joe about how the new Song Wars Album should be put together but he's also been doodling.

Furthermore, the BBC have released the second episode of Country Man. Are there really going to be twelve of these? Will there be a boxed set in time for Easter, I wonder?

He is also hosting another BUG Special on 12th November for Ninja Tunes. It has sold out but tix will be released on or around the day.

B E L O W - T H E - L I N E

Attention Londoners: Film4 have a FrightFest special all-nighter at the Empire this weekend and theBFI IMAX have something similar. The Ritzy are a little more civilized with their Halloween show. If you're at a loose end and want to scare yourself silly the choices are endless. If you're not in London, the chances are you will find a similar event somewhere in a 20 mile radius of your home.

Edgar Wright has done a 6 MixHalloween Horror Special which airs on 6Music this Sunday with John Landis guesting. He's had his little rest and has recommenced blogging in preparation for the US disc release of Scott Pilgrim v. The World.

When leaving home is something you can't be arsed to do for the sake of getting into the Halloween mood, the least you can do is watch this wonderful film from clay-botherer Lee Hardcastle.

If you're visiting London, you may want to have a copy of the Underground Film Map in your pocket.

I am still awaiting the adoption papers but in proud Auntie-like fashion, I'm going to draw your attention to Song Wars Electric Proms winner, Ben Mercer's latest video via an article about him.

I can't remember whether I linked this before. The comedy area of the BBC webworld has a 'collection' suggested by Stephen Merchant which not only includes Adam's "Nutty Room" but also some other corkers.

Finally, if you don't already watch Varsity TV, change your habits. This is a star in the making. I do urge you to also look back over the work from previous terms.

Crossing the Teas and Dotting the Eyes

Make yourself a brew and pass your peepers over these few bits that I didn't want to wedge into my last missive.

Since my award wining post, Ken Korda has visited the Adam And Joe blog to say a little something about Adam's success.

The ITV2 coverage barely included any of the acceptance speeches. You can see the sum total of what we got here but as Sam Clements pointed out, that is begging to be turned into a gif so I done it.
Gallifrey's own Vidjam had a particularly demented way of viewing it.

Our happy, beardy winner kindly gave a special BUG presentation during a students day at the BFI last week. Is there no end to this man's tender generosity? Perhaps Joe managed to syphon some of the young people off afterwards to test his film on them. Time to dust off my pig-tails wig and dental restrainers.

One of the films Adam has been showing at his gigs lately went up on YouTube a couple of days after my last main post so I'll pop it in here now.

With any luck, by the end of the week we will have the full version of Chris Bowles' latest incredible animation, bringing the Glastonbury football commentaries to life. This is just a teaser...

Sontum of Qualace's own Ben Mercer got a mention in Music Week News a few days ago.

After his exhausting schedule for Scott Pilgrim, Edgar took a little rest but he's been back with blog entries from time to time and the twitter seems to be firing up to speed again.

Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith have been lending their lovely weight to A Town Called Panic and that gives me an opportunity to plug the Picturehouse's own, sweet podcast. Frankly, subscribing is the best way to deal with these people. You'll find their jingles a little confusing when familiar strains don't manifest into the well loved Song Wars track you were pre-conditioned to expect.
If you're in Greenwich or Brixton, do listen to the details of the competition towards the end for some lovely goodies.
The really wonderful news included in this podcast is that Hammer And Tongs are releasing a video of all their promo work with behind the scenes stuff. It's coming out in November and it sounds as though it will be double plus good.

For this year at least, the best man won. It would have seemed odd for the Adam and Joe show to have walked away with the prize after such a l o n g absence when Adam's own show was so wonderful and well received. Joe was there, though. The Metro included a photo of them together here.

It took a while for the official website to confirm the award but Twitter was first with the news and James Stirling quickly updated with two photographs on the BBC 6Music Blog.

Naomi grabbed a photo with Adam. This was a jury awarded prize rather than a public vote and it didn't get much screen time on ITV2.

Adam had this to say to 6Music News.

The hard working organisers of 6Fest enlisted Adam's help and winning magic last night by asking him to pick tickets in the first main raffle they held. There were two stages at the venue and the festival was running for almost twelve hours so some people left for meals and some air. This meant that for the first few draws, there were no takers. The official line was that the prize should be set aside until the ticket holder came to claim it but after dutifully doing that with the first one, the revellers were less accepting of this dictate and urged Adam to draw again. It seemed like a repeat of Thursday night at the BTDMAs when the first five awards were given to luminaries that could not be present.

Put on a spot and now with a baying crowd of heavy drinkers, Adam promptly ate the unclaimed raffle ticket and drew another one. This did of course, set a precedent and I think we have all witnessed Adam when he's on a comedy roll. I believe he consumed a total of four tickets. In his completely reliable style, he made an otherwise dull-as-ditchwater part of any event absolutely hilarious.

The third prize had no immediate claimant so he ate the ticket and then the holder finally made themselves known. The next prize had two claimants and the fineprint serial numbers had to be compared for the genuine winner. I'm not even sure what Adam ate in this case but I'm certain he didn't go hungry. He went on to lead a Happy Birthday chant for one audience member and you'll be thrilled to hear that he stayed with the traditional version rather than delight us with his questionable alternative.

Earlier in the evening, Adam gave a twenty minute set which included him showing the Saltman's wonderful Save 6Music film with Adam's version of Changes, an hilarious presentation of his appearances on Channel 4 News, and a live rendition of his clean 'Help the Police' skit followed by the enraged YouTube comments.

He also gave us the news that his Gwen Stefani Hollaback Girl video will probably not appear on YouTube because he is concerned that the copyright catching filters may result in his channel being revoked which would be like chopping off his w'lloy, I'd imagine. He did show it to us though (the film, not his w'lloy) and somebody grabbed a few seconds to give you a flavour if you've not seen him do this.

He finished his set with a live literal rendition of Grace Jones' Pull Up To The Bumper Baby. If you have not collapsed into helpless giggles when he's performed this at one of his shows before, take a look at these lyrics and step into Adam's brain for a moment. You'll get the idea.

There are a few more photos of Adam at the main 6Fest website. It was a really fun and diverse evening. So many of our favourite 6Music DJs were there, pouring their love right back at everyone who took part in the preservation of this beautiful station. The wonderful team also included an Adam And Joe based puzzle in their programme.

I think I've got a lot of other nonsense to relate but I don't want to clog this post up too much.

There is however, one more piece of winning news. According to the Film Distributor's Association we finally have a tentative release date for Joe's film, Attack the Block. If you type the film title into that search box, you'll be rewarded with a date of April 8th 2011. This is no more set in stone than the return to 6Music in November but on both counts, we can remain optimistic.

Adam gave us a wonderful blog update on Thursday so I postponed mine for a couple of days in the hopes that I wouldn't seem quite so lame.

As well as the insightful film review and a link to his favourite tweeter, he included part one of a fascinating series of natural history videos he has made for the BBC Comedy website.

I presume this will be the link to watch for subsequent episodes.

The young man to whom Adam refers at the end of his post was kind enough to share said photo with us.

If you read my last post about BUG21 you'll know that Adam takes a special version around the country when he can.

His Norwich show is now well established and for the last couple of years he has done the Greenwich Comedy Festival. This year the weather was super fine and TwitSquadron were out in force. Several members took snaps......Kendersrule, WickWox, Pintendo64, WickWox, Pintendo64 and.....well, you get the idea.

Emma McAlpine posted a piece at Spoofed about the Greenwich show, as did Kendersrule.

This has to be the classiest fansnap out there (from WickWox).

In between Greenwich and BUG21, Adam did a superb gig at the lovely Tabernacle.

The only breakfast show worth listening to had the priviledge of an exclusive phone call from Adam before all these shows kicked off. Furthermore, James Kettle from the ever-loyal Guardian gave the show a mention. There's a lovely BUG shaped interview with Adam at OutlineOnline wherein he claims that this is his favourite music video of all time and you can see how it was made here.

One of these days, all of Twitsquadron will turn up wearing one of these and judging by this shot taken at last night's BUG21 Director's Cut, they'll look fine.
OK Go also guested last night and WickWox snapped them all.

The Oxfam/M&S ad that Adam voiced was singled out for praise this week.

It's not my fault that this all seems to be about Adam. Frankly, I'm tempted to make up all manner of nonsense about Joe, just to maintain a balance/keep him on his toes.

Happily, we DO know that he is still alive since this lucky tweeter spotted him buying two copies of Halo Reach and Lee also made me giggle by suggesting that this might be an Attack The Block viral.

Here's a little piecethat is bound to have brought a smile to Joe's face.

If I were in any way talented, I'd do something as wonderful as this Daily Reckless stuff EP sound thing but all I manage is a bit of cutting and pasting.

ITV have confirmed that they will televise the BT Digital Music Awards starting on Saturday 2nd October over at ITV2. The actual awards take place on Thursday, 30th September so we'll have advance warning of whether it will be fruitful watching. Voting has closed so the fate of Adam Buxton's Big Mixtape, The Adam And Joe Podast and 6Music is being tabulated right now.

Your Turn Heather was first out of the blocks with her five besties and The Incredible Suit dropped by with his top ten. UltraCulture found it a little harder to distill his choices down to the essential, affordable list so he brought us 30 to consider, the adorable, press accredited ponce.

BUG21 for the hard of travelling

There is nothing to quite match the visceral mind-thwack you get from watching these little beauties on the big screen at NFT1. When it's all nuzzled together by the beardy wonderman, you know you'll walk home replete with sensory delight (that's a lactose-free version of Angel Delight).

Adam and the BUG team try their hardest to bring their format to other parts of the country but the flagship shows are in London. This precludes all but the most tenacious of country folk from enjoying it so here's but a second-hand experience.

BUG21 must have had some decent work because the majority of the films shown are available on Vimeo rather than (or as well as) YouTube. Do me a favour and pop them out on HD rather than squint at them on here. At least attempt to recreate the evening on some small level. Of course, if your provider is BT, you're condemned to jerk-vision. You might as well grab a friend and reenact each of them in your tea break.

Adam started rolling with his hootin' version of Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl. I'm going to link the song with the lyrics. You can imagine where Adam went with this. I laughed just as loudly the second time. Let's hope he plops it on his channel.

One might argue that a few of those selected were predictable but since this is one of the rare opportunities for such glorious exposure, a sense of deflation would have pervaded my evening if some of these had not been included. My only fear was that they started with such a strong one, the evening might have only gone downhill. It didn't. Much.

If you dribbled all the way through the wide open scenes in Where The Wild Things Are, you'll need plenty of absorbent cloths whilst watching this one. It's OK to shed a tear. You can claim you were sobbing at the b e a u t y of it.

I seem to remember Adam had a little bit of fun with Tom's surname but at the end of the day, Buckles has a problem pronouncing anything in German (Die Antwort being a particular bug-bear of mine - think about it).

Everything Everything - Photoshop Handsome

I'm very frustrated to report that my stupid brain was unable to find the demented version that BUG showed of this. It has some insane Photoshop tomfoolery but where can it be? Adam introduced it by saying something like "they shot a performance of themselves against green screen and threw it out into the huge, frightening dog's bowl that is the internet and invited creative people to embellish it along the lines of the theme of the song which is called...blah. Around forty people eventually screwed around with the footage and then Everything Everything chopped it all together to create an absolutely mind melting brain bomb." It was produced by BUG's own Phil Tidy which is why HE has it and WE don't. It's not even on his Vimeo Channel.

I was one of the handful who admitted that they liked Everything Everything when Adam polled us. I saw them in the balmy sunshine of an early evening Lake Stage at Latitude. They were wickles.

UNKLE - The Answer

We were shown this just before John Hillcoat took to the stage, if memory serves. I'd seen it on-line and wasn't relishing the thought of seeing Mr Winstone's mug even closer and bigger but stick with it because the visual teasers stuff comes later. Some of it felt like a clip from Enter The Void, toned down for YouTube consumption. It's a clever piece and it's nobody's fault that I'm not so keen on the starring talent. I think we saw a little Hillcoat showreel up front too, so I might be wrong about the playing order.

Adam finished up with his Tom Waits rejected literal theme tune for the Iron Man 2 trailer.

This BUG was filmed so I would imagine it will pop up at the BFI sometime soonish. The Director's Cut version on tonight only has flippin' OK Go guesting.

Untitled Blog Entry - words fail me

What this lacks in snappy subject title, it makes up for in seemingly unending waffle.
The BFI made a ten minute edit of last month's conversation between Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright which you can view at that link. I'm not clever enough to work out if there's some way to embed the lovely thing but don't think I haven't tried all kinds of code in an effort to do so.

The BBC however, have an entirely different attitude, enabling me to plonk this piece from today's Shaun Keaveny show right here at the cliff face.

There's a bit of noodle about the effects house who are taking care of Joe's Attack the Block here and something about the location here.

The latest hard copy issue of Empire has a couple of ATB pictures and some waffle from Joe. I'd hate to stop anyone from buying the glorious thing so I won't scan it until next month (if at all) but The Playlist have included some of the words. They may have included all the words for all I know but I am resolutely trying not to read anything. That's probably how I came to miss evidence of Joe realising a dream by including a real Loose Woman in his cast list.

Adam recorded a voice-over back in May. I'm a patient kind of person and have been thus rewarded.

I want to put a comma after "nice" or some dots or a forward arrow after "that". That comment wouldn't be quite so annoying were my own grammar and spelling slightly less than appalling.

BBC Radio 7 decided to repeat Adam's Famous Guy play from April 2006 the other day. It's still on iPlayer and I would encourage you to listen there, just to keep the figures totting along.
Of course, it's always available on Adam's website blog area. If you want to read my waffle about the picture they're still using, you'd need to go to that silly, daily thing I do.

Last month was all about Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

The day after my last post, the lovely little thing premiered and Joe was the guest of honour. He wasn't. He was just there in his retro velvet jacket.

This little lady has a report and a couple of snaps from the BFI event with more details here and new #Twitsquadron member, John Sharp kindly shared a snap taken with Cornballs on the night.

Despite what seemed like endless opportunities (perhaps two) to catch the film in preview I was steadfast in my resolve to take my virgin viewing in the company of a right pair of Charlies. I should warn you that the young man chairing the video on that page is health-warningly cute. His cheeks must be sore from being pinched........or licked.........something.

The blogging world and his wife (quite literally, it would seem in some cases) were at the Ultra Culture Cinema Event Number Four and despite the ICA screen being too small for an epic like this, especially if you arrived as late as I did, I still reckon it was the most fun of all the specials out there. I understand that some attendees of more precocious screenings had to make do with cheese of all things, at their event.

A weary Edgar scooted over from his DVD Extras edit afterwards but we'd scarcely had time to get comfortable when we were poleaxed by some optimum pre-show audience participation.

Before I leave this Pilgrim hoopla I want to say two things.
1. Scott Pilgrim vs The World is even better on second viewing and
2. Ultra Culture Cinema is something everyone needs to experience at least once in their life. Any longterm Adam and Joe fan will know that this young man has serious A&J credentials even though he was just discovering solids when they were first whittling away down in Brixton. Register for email alerts and tell the little blighter I sent you. I'm not serious with that. Would that his mailing list form had such a facility.

With all the Edgar talk buzzing around the net, this old piece about Ant Man popped into the feeds somehow.

Electric Proms 'Stupid Question Time' question poser, Kimika was playing with Twitsquadron and Avatwee last week. It's always interesting to discover how some people view you, isn't it?

While listening to some old XFM wibbles the other day I was reminded of this glorious album available from Honest Jon's.

If you live in London or can spare any time down here next month you could do yourself an enormous favour by catching something at the London Film Festival. That's all I'm saying on the subject. I'd sing like a bird if I had any kind of press pass or something.

Can we do something to put this place out of business? I am so fed up with their tweets showing up in my Deck.

Once again, I shall clumsily resort to a list of links I've collected since my last post. I might just as well put the most recent up first and work backwards. It won't make any difference to anyone, will it?

In the category of "Lovely bit of news with an evil twist" we learned that there's a BT Digital nomination for Adam and Joe's Podcast. The sorrow of it is that in the same category, we also find Adam's Big Mixtape and the podcast therefrom. The other contenders aren't really worth worrying over but it is all about the public vote so don't hold back. The decision will not be an enviable one, though. James Coffee Starling also points out in the Blog that there's an opportunity for 6Music to win an award as well.

Empire & the BFI held it's third annual MovieCon last weekend and Adam used his Pavel character to introduce a film also shown on the night he DJ'd at Film4's Somerset House Summer Screen presentation of a A Town Called Panic.

Adam gave us a lovely blog update a couple of weeks ago! He's finally finished his Festival Song video and chitty chats about his Latitude experience. For a while, he left the comments open and I thought he might have had a change of heart but it seems it was just an error.

Joe braved the cobbles with his beautox to watch Mullholland Drive on 6th August screening at Somerset House. Charlie Lyne pleasured us with a snap of his hand.

The BFI filmed last night's interview with Edgar Wright, hosted by Joe Cornish so we can hope for something on the website fairly soon. In the meantime, you can find pictures here, here and here. I would just like to mention how much the clock tickled me especially as it's purpose was eventually and joyfully mute. He's a stupidly impressive man who clearly loves and admires his glossy-haired chum with great affection. Edgar can hold an audience in the palm of his hand and it appears to be effortless. Last night will be marked as one of the most special Q & A's I've seen and I'm geeky enough to see an awful lot of them. Of course, this one had the luxury of a dedicated time slot and I hope I'm still around when either of these fine gentlemen are celebrated in "A Life In Pictures" but I doubt it will be as charming and relaxed as the BFI. ****Edited to add that as suspected, the blogger with the awesome threads has made a much better record of the evening than I could have done. Joe did refer to his own film several times so while it's in my head, one of the many worries he may have had recently was a possible plagiarism concern although his film was obviously the potential victim, not the culprit. On a happier note, this tweet popped up to boost his little ego.

I presume he will have attended the Scott Pilgrim vs The World premiere tonight but he may have been chained to the Avid instead. He was slated to have presented a few minutes of Attack The Block during MovieCon but had to pull out because he wasn't ready. Regular followers will know that I would ideally not even want to see a trailer before I see the final cut but I suspect I will not get away with that one, unless Joe is kind enough to invite me to a very, very early screening! He clearly spent a lot of time prepping and making a beautiful job of presenting Edgar's big night at the BFI which included sourcing and cutting together various clips. Last night he also implied that he might have a few pick-up shots to grab to complete the total wonderosity of his first epic. I hope he's not fretting about that and that Adam doesn't humiliate himself with too many begging letters.
